The Premier League Board has decided to postpone Brentford’s home fixture against Manchester United, due to be played on Tuesday, 14 December at 19.30 GMT.

The decision was taken following guidance from medical advisers due to the exceptional circumstances of an ongoing COVID-19 outbreak within Manchester United’s squad.

First-team operations at the club’s Carrington Training Complex were closed down today to help control the outbreak and minimise risk of further infection among players and staff.

The League wishes a quick recovery to those players and staff with COVID-19. The postponed fixture will be rearranged in due course.

With the health of players and staff the priority, and in light of the recent rise in COVID-19 cases across the country, the Premier League has reintroduced Emergency Measures.

These include protocols such as more frequent testing, wearing face coverings while indoors, observing social distancing and limiting treatment time.

No chance with a World Cup this time next year. It seems to me like they need to bring back the strict bubbles again over the Christmas period.

It makes far more sense to play the game now with limited prep than it does to have a situation where we’re playing fixtures every 48 hours for a week.
It really doesn't make any sense to play the game. At all.

    Game will be postponed

This has to be one of the more dramatic non-match/transfer days in the club's recent history? First the insanity with the CL draw, now this.

I agree but I am not sure RR has the balls to do it lets see
I am beginning to wonder about this as well but 2 games is too early to say but I'm a tad concerned that he is picking names and the previous favourites

All these people saying "worried about Brentford; they are a good team "

I'm not saying you are wrong ; but they are a newly promoted team and are 10th in the table.

    We are Manchester United

It just shows how far we have fallen...

Always looked the most likely. Just a matter of time.

Glad they've let matchday fans know before they start to travel, even if it's not enough notice to save the bookings.

    Ouch. It may still happen.

Im glad Brentford is off because we were leggy as feck on Saturday and Brentford are much more intense than Norwich. More time on the training pitch can only help.
    Will training even happen?

They beat Arsenal and took Liverpool right to the wire in a 3-3 draw. Just because they got promoted means nothing.

We need to stop using this "we are man utd" phrase as it means even less these days. We are as good as our last performance, and that wasn't great.

Should we be winning? yes. Does that mean we will? no. Norwich are way worse of a side and look how we handled that.

Seems like a good decision, and will also favor us I feel. At least in the short run.

On a more general note, this will surely be the first of many PL games to be postponed. Will be interesting to see if the busy Christmas schedule can go ahead without major disruptions - somehow I doubt it.

Isn't that exactly his point how far we have fallen that even a trip to newly promoted side holds so much uncertainity .

Not really. It's more our mindsets that need to change.

Football isn't the same as it used to be where you just turn up and win every match half assed. I'd actually argue some of the promoted sides are more enthusiastic/organised because of the championship. Sheffield, Leeds, Brentford have all looked more troubling than the likes of Burnley, Newcastle, Palace etc.

Some of our fanbase still seem to think we are the same team/club that we were under Fergie, but it's not been like that for 8+ years now.

Yes we should be favourites against Brentford, but if anybody has watched them (especially at home) this year, they won't be a walk over at all.

We all know how far we've fallen. This was a tough game and a likely win for Brentford given how both teams are playing (it still is).

Could explain bone-weary performances if some players were already affected.

Depends on how many first team squad players have it. There might not be any training

Agree. This “We are Man Utd” mentality is good for a winning team but it is also burden for a team that is struggling. Even at a big club like United, the players need to be ready to roll up their sleeves.

I was looking forward to the match but I'm all for postponing if it's the safest thing to do... just worried about the rest of the season now, it could become a farce with games being cancelled left right and centre which will undoubtedly lead to a "winter break" of which we might not come back from for a long time, like the first break.

fecking COVID can eat a dick.

Gutted about today's game. Doesn't look good for the rest of the season really. So many teams are having outbreaks.

Feels like a matter of time before games without fans again / maybe even no football again.

Even back in the day when these types of matches were more of a certainty, we were still good for dropping points to newly promoted sides.
Yep, even under Sir Alex. Burnley away in 09/10 sticks in my memory. They scored a scorching volley, and we missed a penalty.

Reading were a bit of bogey team for us for a couple of years when they came up in 06/07 too. It took an FA Cup replay to beat them IIRC. There's definitely been more.

If you couldn't fulfil the fixture vs us not sure how United can play Brighton as all positive PCR tests require 10 days isolation, so if it was the number of positive PCR tests that caused the postponement then that number would be the same for the weekend...

I think a lot of pressure was put on the EPL by closing the training ground and not travelling to the game. I am not saying it isn't the right decision but the lack of transparency is a bit odd. The cynic in me says if roles were reversed the EPL might have told us to play the game but who knows. Anyway gives us a rest too and a chance to get more players back or those back recently up to speed. Just hope when it's rescheduled it ain't behind closed doors.
