What's the status of Herrera and Lingard? Do they have a chance to feature?

I can see McTominay playing a part possibly man marking Hazard, we will most certainly go 3 in the middle, if not 4 with Fellaini thrown in.
McT is too tall to man mark anybody but Fellaini.
If he man marks Hazard, it'll be like nobody is actually marking Hazard.

Jose needs to stop this obsession he has with the giants - they are useless against more skilful players.

So you just mentioned whole team.
No I didn't, the three important aspects I mentioned are the second CB, whether Pogba is going to feast or famine and who is going to play on the left. The right side at this point is a total dumpster fire that is anybodies guess to sort out from the back to the front, we just roll the dice and hope for the best.

Lukaku/Matic have fitness and form problems and aren't integration problems. We've seen what they can do at their best and while Lukaku can't easily be replaced, Matic can with other key parts of the squad.

Maybe usual suspect is not the players after all.
What a weird comment, the usual suspects on the field on match day, might not be the players? That doesn't even make sense.

Don't know what team he will put out. I will go with something like this

    De gea
    Valencia Smalling Bailly Shaw
    Matic
    Fred Pogba
    Lukaku Sanchez Martial

No matter how rom plays,Jose will pick him anyway, so I hope he atleast experiments with Lukaku on the right. I put Fred because I don't think Fellaini will be able to cope up with Jorginho, Kante,
Barkley/Kovacic. Jose, please don't play Mctominay. We are going to be annihilated if he selects the team to prove a point to the board. I would give lingard a go on the right wing , if Jose decides to rest rom.

Heart says 2-1 win, head says 3-0 defeat.

Shame we are paying massive money for the guy who doesn't have a say on outcome of the game. Wonder why the same players who won league titles under SAF were so shit under Moyes, same players who were superb under Jupp and struggling under Kovac. Yeah, it's not just players on the field on match day, preparation plays a big part and yes, usual suspect is the one who trains them.

Bailly or Lindelof with Smalling, Pogba, Martial/Sanchez on the left. Valencia or Young have been at various levels of up for it but ineffective and up for it and awful. Lukaku has been in horrendous form lately and definitely needs a rest. (Would prefer him to stay home and chill over the international break persoanlly) and has been all over the place. So has Matic.
You have mentioned 6 positions. Also your comment on Pogba doesn't make sense at all, he is the one who is saving Jose's ass not his warriors.

When you mention issues at 6 positions then yes, you are pointing finger at wrong person and it's not even a surprise now.

If Herrera is fit, isn’t man marking Eden Hazard one of his special roles? I can see us adopting that strategy here and somehow scrapping a draw

You've lost me, you're having a mare. No idea what Heynckes and Niko Kovac have to do with us playing Chelsea but, yeah. Sure thing.

 Sure you lost there. You don't think coach matters at all on match day, why do they even get paid so much money? Tell us, why do Liverpool team start the game at 100 mph under Klopp, when same players didn't under Rodgers? You still think only players matters on the match day? You don't think preparation leading up to the game matters at all and the 90 mins in the game is the only thing that matters?

When you say usual suspects and name 6 positions and upto 8-9 players, then it's obvious where the problem is.

Our title challenge is as good as finished if we lose this, if it already wasn't. But if we somehow fluke the win we are suddenly 4 points behind so there's still something to fight for. A 6 point swing is quite big.

So I've managed to wangle some tickets in the Chelsea hospitality for this game.

How the feck am I going to sit there quietly surrounded by Chelsea fans, when I know we'll take a pasting like usual at the bridge

So far every united game I've been too we've won, so i'm hoping this lucky streak will continue :D

If not.. I hope they have a free bar.

I don't think we are going for the title, mate.
Top 4 is the target which Woodward set out. That's our aim.

You would trust a player who has not played in a long long time, to instantly come in and man mark the best player in the league?
    That's just reckless.
If Jose does do that, he deserves to be fired.

I'd say let's try to give them a game.

    Ddg
    Dalot Smalling (anyone) Shaw
    Fred Herrera Pogba
    Sanchez Lukaku Martial

This could get very messy. We rarely come away with anything from Stamford Bridge, I don't think this will be any different. If we go in with 2 of McTominay, Fellaini, or Matic we're going to be cut open. Let's hope Hazard has an off day.

People forget fast that, we too, can be game raising cnuts. Last season some of our best matches were against top sides while being awful against newly promoted sides and those in the relegation zone. Form doesn't mean much in matches like this, we were on the top of the table, less than six months after winning the treble and lost 5-0 at Bridge against 5th place Chelsea.

I'll go with a low or no scoring draw.

This team under this manager is not capable of going on the type of run that would bring us in contention.

    You're having a laugh.

As far as lineups go, we need to clog midfield to have any chance of coming away without embarrassment.

I don’t expect us to win here, but I’ve honestly not wanted us to win a game this badly in a long time.

Feel a bit Kevin Keegan, but I would absolutely love it if we beat them.

    Tough one for Jose.
Park the bus and try to get a draw, which will be a poor result for us on the larger scale of things.
Or try and play football while risking another rinsing at the Bridge?

Will get ugly, we always get battered there in recent times. With them playing now attacking football :nervous:

A sign of how poor our season has been - it's October and City/Liverpool will be hoping we win this.

Is this the earliest we'e been "out" of a title race?

Stop Hazard and we're half way through it. How do we do that is the question. Let's hope Herrera is back and he can help out with the belgian.

You want Herrera to mark the best player in the league, after a long injury lay-off, first game back?

We will get hammered and this will be the game that costs Mourinho, the guy who built Chelsea, his job. It's written in the stars and the papers will love it.

    For our top four hopes.
Absolutely agree. To get fourth place you'll probably need 77-80 points to have a shot as the other 'big five' teams look like they'll swat aside the easier teams more often than not this season and rack up a lot of points.

At least this is the kinda game where normally Jose shines, stop the good team playing and get a goal or two. Weirdly feel like we will win this. Call it childish optimism.

LVG's first season was another one. Not as bad as this though.

No we don't need to stop Hazard. We need to defend as a team. It's not about stopping one man. He is a great player but we don't need to make special plans for him. Just defend as a team and close the spaces when we don't have the ball, make passes more difficult is better.

It’s not like we have much choice. Matic is hopeless in current form, Fellaini is not mobile enough, not that it would be perfect but it’s looking grim either way.
