No we don't need to stop Hazard. We need to defend as a team. It's not about stopping one man. He is a great player but we don't need to make special plans for him. Just defend as a team and close the spaces when we don't have the ball, make passes more difficult is better.
I disagree, Hazard is a special player and the main driving force of Chelsea. We need do need a plan for him imo.

Everyone will expect us to lose comfortably but I think we'll grind a result out. Goes without saying that Mou will stick someone on Hazard, which worked for us before, main issue will be where goals come from for us.

That's a small club mentality imo. We have more firepower than Chelsea and a better balance across our attack. We should rather focus on ourselves and not compromise our attack for one player. Last season we man marked Hazard and Willian with two DM's at OT, let Chelsea have the freedom of the pitch because we were too deep. didn't attack at all until the 2nd half. That's what we should've been doing from the start.
Also FA cup final Herrera was basically playing RB and not in CM like he should have been doing just to stop Hazard. We still conceded anyway and we looked much better in the 2nd half when we attacked.

    Will play:
    De Gea
    Young - Smalling - Bailly - Shaw
    Fellaini
    Matic - Pogba
    Mata - Lukaku - Martial

    Would prefer:

    De Gea
    Dalot - Smalling - Bailly - Shaw
    Fellaini
    Pereira - Pogba
    Rashford - Martial - Sanchez

    Expecting something like this:

    De Gea
    Herrera - Smalling - Lindelof
    Valencia - Matic - Fellaini - Shaw
    Pogba
    Sanchez - Lukaku
I think Mourinho will want to not lose more than win. He doesn't trust his defenders so will stack the team with defensive players and hope that Sanchez/Lukaku can catch Chelsea on the counter. Herrera if available, otherwise I am not sure who he would put there seeing as Bailly and McTominay are coming off a really bad game.

In principle, I agree with you. But given that this season, whenever we have defended, we have ended up losing and the only times we won, were when we focused on attack. The question has to be, does Jose trust his defenders to concede 0 goals, so we can attempt to score on a counter attack and win 1-0 (just like his Chelsea team beat us, under LVG, when we lost 1-0.

Our defending is shit as of late. Only recourse is to outscore them or hope for a draw.

    DDG

    Dalot Smalling Lindelof Shaw
    Periera
    Fred Pogba
    Sanchez Lukaku Martial

    Subs: Rashford, Mata, Fellaini

Back to normal for this one. 1-0 to Chelsea. Being as we are away to Chelsea I expect Jose to set us up like this
    De Gea
    Valencia Smalling Lindelof Bailly Shaw
    Mctominay Matic Fellaini Pogba
    Lukaku

    Losing to Comeback Winning!
Mou may prefer a "balance" line-up this time, normal 4 at the back.
-The possible return of McTominic, in their proper midfield position.
-Valencia is likely for this one, better defensively than Young. Doubt Herrera is ready. Dalot is too risky.
Or worse, another boring "defensive focused" line-up of 5 defenders.

Don't mind result, as long as we gave a good go at 'em. Obv winning is better.

Lukaku to score the winning goal!

I'd like to see us go with 2 upfront, Fellaini in behind Lukaku. We're not going to outplay them, let's go direct and see how Jorginho, Kovacic et al enjoy defending against that kind of approach. Also, Dalot has to start at right back, the thought of Young or Valencia against Hazard is terrifying.

I would have been up for Dalot starting if he hadn’t gone missing the past few games. It’ll be a big ask for him to not play for a few games then come up against the best player in league. Although perhaps your right and surely he can’t be worse than Young and Valencia. Wouldn’t want to set the young lad up for a failure though ala Mctominay CB.

No chance of seeing Andreas. Jose is still making him pay for his sins against Brighton sadly.

Point well taken. From what I've seen though, he does seem a confident player, I'd think he'd be up to it. Plus maybe with him being Portuguese, it'd be easier for Jose to motivate him for the clash? Maybe wishful thinking. The only other option would be Darmian and I'd don't think there's a United fan anywhere who would want to see him on the field.

    Does Darmian actually play football?
What does the guy do all day? Train 3-4 days per week then go home?

Doesn't sound like their injury is that bad.
I expect they'll be back for this one, but can't see why we need them for this game - questionable match fitness.
Rather use the players we have who played in previous gamess.
Yeah, match fitness won't be there of course. But if we're man-marking Hazard, there is only Ander capable of doing that job. And Lingard is a big game player.

We would be better off with young or Valencia defending against Hazard than an unknown player against one the best player in their home ground

    Or Ferguson.
I do wonder sometimes if we've got to the point where some on here didn't watch much of us under Fergie, or were too young to really remember. Games against Chelsea and Arsenal under SAF were very often setup to stop elements of their play.

Still even more recently Klopp and Pep altered their tactics against a big club just last week.

I don't have a problem with us playing more consertively in a big away game but I don't like man marking players. We can win games with a team effort both in defense and attack instead of trying to stop one player.

    Wouldn't 4:5 be even sweeter?
Any win there would be sweet, our record is abysmal. Would have no qualms about setting up conservatively given our form and taking away any sort of win. Would be an enormous confidence boost

Herrera has to play. Matic / Fellaini aren't mobile enough to shadow Hazard.

Yeah I'd blame it on short memories but even the last season when Fergie was at the helm we've had Bale and Alonso man marked so that's not an excuse I'm afraid.

I have a sneaky feeling we'll win this.
Remember O Shea's winner at Anfield where we played shite. Would be great to have a win like that.

I'm not expecting us to play well but to pull out a result when we really need one would mean the world to us right now.

Personally I'm sick of us somehow pulling out results after shit performances. However the alternative is to lose, so...

Hazard is the best player in the league. It would be extremely foolish to not give him special attention.
If Hazard can be marked out of a game, with 1-2 of our players, I'd take it.

Herrera has been terrible this season and he's only started one game (yes he was played in a back three against Spurs but he was still absolutely dogshite) so I wouldn't start him here. I don't rate Fellaini and i'd rather see him start this than Herrera.
