Why not? It's the EFL cup and he's been training with the first team for a long while now. He's been looking pretty good for the reserves too. You'd expect bright talents for the future to get a look in for these sorts of games.
I think maybe a twenty minute cameo but I wouldnt mind him starting because it's not like we'd be leaving out prime Ronaldo, such are our options. It might work and give us an option for the upcoming tough fixtures ahead.

Everton is as good as any side to gauge where he is with regard to him being a genuine first team option and we do need more options whilst crushing out of League Cup is not exactly devastating.

As we are at the Qtr final stage, I'd like to see us go for it.
3 wins from a trophy, we are in really good form, especially away from home - would like to see the momentum keep up with a win here.

2 - 1 as I think Everton will give us a good game, but we have too much quality.

There will definitely be changes again. 5 made against Leeds after Sheffield United, so it's probably going to be even more here.

Fully expect starts for Henderson, Williams, Telles, Matic, van de Beek, Pogba and Cavani. Ole will want to win a trophy, but I still think he'll be willing to take a risk here by leaving out the likes of Wan-Bissaka, Shaw, Fred, Bruno and Rashford in particular.

    Henderson
    Williams Lindelof Maguire Telles
    Van de Beek Matic Pogba
    Mata Cavani James

Might still see Martial start, or Greenwood if fit. James deserves another start and it allows us to keep our forward line fresh for important forthcoming League games against Leicester, Wolves and Aston Villa over the festive period.

I'd love it if Pellistri was thought ready for a run out.

Any insight on what Everton may do? I.e. Calvert-Lewin, Keane, Richarlison etc...will they go full strength?
They 'only' have Sheffield United on Boxing day.

Feck me, what a interesting match this will be. A good test for us. Can we put in a similar performance as today against a more defensively sound team with better players in almost every position.

And how awesome is it to go into a match like this with the prospect of consolidating our position in the top further, instead of chasing getting in to the top 4. I have missed that.
    It’s league cup bro

    Where have you been?
You think teams just want revenge every time they lose a game? Youl have to try harder than that. Might as well lock him up and not field him for most our fixtures:lol:

It's a 3-1 boring defeat at OT, it wasn't some feisty Derby that royally pissed either side or manager off.

Full rotation. Leicester Saturday morning will be tough, and this is on Wednesday night so its minimal recovery. Also Efl cup. Not worth it to play any starters.

    Henderson
    Williams Tuanzebe Bailly Telles
    Pogba Matic
    Mata Van de Beek
    Greenwood Cavani

At first I thought McTominay was just nursing a stiffy from his performance but it's a groin pull so he's out for this and I can see Rashford, Martial, Bruno and Shaw all being rested.

Guessing mostly large-scale rotation for this with us playing Leicester City on boxing day

    Henderson

    Williams Tuanzebe* Maguire Telles
    Matic
    van de Beek Pogba
    Mata
    Greenwood Cavani

*wasn’t on the bench today so maybe Bailly but not too keen on playing him
Do you think Everton will also rotate as heavily from their first team?

I'd agree with a full rotation. Don't really care bout this cup. The league and Europe are more important.

They won't rotate as heavily but they literally only have the league and league cup to play in and haven't been flying all over Europe.

    Games played this season
    Everton: 17 (since 13th September)
Manchester United: 21 (since 19th September)

They also had nearly 2 months break from last season compared to our 1.

James deserves another go, but like most people said, plenty of rotation please!

Glad if we win this, wouldnt mind if we lose if it means resting players for Leicster. Im sure Ancelloti will rest some as well. This team should be good enough to compete.

Lots of Rotation here hopefully as the League is the No 1 priority.

    Henderson
    Williams - Bailly/Tuanzebe - Lindelof/Maguire - Telles
    Pogba - Matic
    VDB
    Greenwood - Cavani/Martial - James

It would be wrong to say I don't care about this but beating Leicester on Stephens Day is more important.

Near full rotation. Not particularly bothered about this competition unless semi final or final. Have a deep squad

Would like to win of course, but this one is definitely a freebie. Leicester away is a very important game to be right for.

Have to agree with this. It'd be great to pick up the first trophy of the season but I really think we need to put out as much of a fringe team as we can and see if we can squeeze a result.

Personally think Fred will be rested, as we play Leicester, Wolves and Aston Villa over a seven day period, three days after this. He'll probably be asked to start all three, particularly if McTominay's injury is at all serious.

Yep. It’ll be matic and pogba again with VDB ahead I hope. Need to rest bruno for the more important games coming up

    Thanks.

Then its gonna be a really hard game for us. Ancelotti has got them all fired up and they have a very talented front 3. I'm not sure our team including some 2nd stringers like Williams, Mata and Matic will be enough.

Tough choices for Ole to make, as I really want to win this cup, to get that monkey off Ole's back and also provide us a huge mid season boost.

I'd play that but Bailly in for Maguire. On paper a pretty good team too.

They won't park the bus if that's what you're asking.
You watch them against Arsenal or Chelsea? They absolutely will given the chance. They've been playing two centrebacks as fullbacks due to injuries (Coleman and Digne usually create loads of chances for them) so creativity isn't really the first thing on Ancelotti's mind. Rodriguez might be back for this game though so maybe they'll go out their with some intent, DCL and Richarlison are dangerous on the counter anyways

Expecting Everton to be at full strength, they’re an odd team. They were 2nd on Saturday evening but I don’t think I’ve seen an impressive performance by then since September. All about the aerial threat, long balls, knock downs and set pieces seem to be their strongest points.

    Rotate. Rotate. Rotate.

Keep the 1st eleven fresh for Leicester. We need 3 points from that match so that we can keep on pressuring the other teams.

Bailly and Tuanzebe is a car crash. Deffo should play Tuanzebe, but he needs a calming, experienced player beside him, not Bailly.
Probably right and I imagine he will play but I think Maguire should be rested once in a while. He doesn't get many injuries but surely he could do with a game off.

I agree. And Lindelof/ Tuanzebe could be ok, but think Lindelof has a few niggles, so expect him to be the one who is rested. We have a serious lack of depth at CB.

Then McTominay, Bruno, Fred, Rashford, Martial, Shaw, Lindelöf, Wan-Bissaka should all be fresh for the weekend.
