Are you really asking that? Rooney could score a hat-trick and according to a bunch of people here, he basically got lucky, is shite, is fat, is slow, can't pass, can't score, can't do anything and he is basically the worst player United has suited up in the last 60 years.

He turned shit after a good enough start, why are you dressing it up?

Yeah, that's as much an overreaction as the people you're trying to describe.

Really pleased with the lads in this half.

    Main positives so far:
    • Defence looking more solid with actual defenders playing in it. Rojo is fine as a LB which is not surprise given we signed based off his performances at LB for Argentina. Between him and Blind, that position should be covered till Shaw gets back. Don't want to see Young or any other midfielder start there ever again.
    • Herrera is very good at #10. He might not be the most silky of attacking midfielders.. but he's gutsy, he makes runs, he links up well, he presses, he scores goals. He's a much better option in that position than Rooney and he's doing very well. Unless we're got the next Ronaldinho hidden somewhere, Ander should be first option there.
    • BFS and Morgan complement each other well in midfield. Good combination of brains and brawn.
We are generally playing very well. We might have got a bit lucky with the first goal, but generally we're much more fluid than we have been in the past.

Let's not jinx the 2nd half though! Keep it up lads

If Rooney scored a hattrick, people on here would say "fair pay. good hattrick". He hasn't scored a hattrick and has lost the ball several times with unforced errors. So people are saying so.

Who is the one painting things as they aren't?

I'm not a Rooney basher and have spent much of the season sticking up for him. But let's call a spade a spade here.

So far United has bounced back well from our last Premier League game. For a visiting side Everton is a tough place to go, we have made it look routine. A lot of good performances, especially from Chris Smalling and Ander Herrera. I am continually baffled by Van Gaal's tendency to drop Herrera to accommodate other players. On the subject of accommodating other players, Rooney still not looking wonderful and Martial looking half the player he is as a striker out left.

Rooney holds up the ball, lays it off to BFS, shortly after we score. The most important control and pass to retain possession of the entire build up and how many people commented on that? Two, myself and one other person.

What were you saying about ignorance?
He controlled it AND passed it? Give that man a medal, these are basics of playing the striker role. He's playing for the biggest club in the world being paid in excess of 200k a week, I think we are entitled to expect Rooney to manage an occasional moment of excellence, maybe the odd goal, heck, even managing to avoid going SEVEN passes without finding a United player.

Smalling is getting a lot of praise here but with another ref he could've given away 2 penalties. His hands have been all over Lukaku a couple of times and on both occasions we couldn't really have complained had the ref called it. He's playing well other than that but he has to watch out he doesn't undo all his hard work by giving away a silly penalty.

It's called being balanced. I don't think he has been good, but he hasn't been awful. Why can't people be honest. It just bothers me to see people get hysterical and slam a player when they haven't actually been that bad. He's had some good touches, he's had some important touches. He's given the ball away a couple times, and he's broken up possession a couple of times.

However there are people in this thread who are spewing tripe about "HAS HE EVEN COMPLETED A PASS???!!!111"

    Dishonesty is ugly.

Should have been a peno and maybe a red for coleman as he saved a goal with his hands.

Rooney needs to be well "phased out", but that phase has to start right now.

Ironically, the last Rooney hat-trick, people on these forums shit on him about "having found his level".

There is being biased towards your team and there is just being blinded altogether. Rooney has been poor. Just because we are 2 up does not mean we should dress up his performance. Neither should we be applauding the so called runs and shielding he's doing. A United captain and top earner should be giving more as a bare minimum.

Just got in but surely should have been a penalty on the Martial finish at the end of the half?

    I felt a bit like I was watching Fergie's team. :)
This type of football has to be the way forward. It has got us 2-0 up at Goodison and now it would make sense to play the possession football LVG loves so much

Well if we must play this 4-2-3-1 crap of formation,i rather see 3 true midfield players in that triangle then 2 CMs and number 10 in Rooney. I was never a Rooney basher but i must say, dont think i ever seen anything similar, when it comes to miss placing simple passes,or destroying passage of play in that short time of space.

Just tuning in now - what a start! What's the deal with Blind? Benched for tactical reasons or injured? How have Rojo and Jones played?

What a great goal by Herrera. Build up, Rojo's cross and then that excellently controlled finish. Delightful!

he looks a lot more confident. has made some short passes that have been intercepted. But he also has been instrumental in some good chances. would be silly at this point to yank him out.

Our best 45 minutes this season. As for John Stones - he has had an awful first 45 minutes. What is he doing when we get our second ? Leaving Jagielka with 2 players...not clever! :)
