We'll definitely see some form of more defensive approach. At least one of Blind/Darmian at Left Back, Herrera in Central Midfield and Lingard out wide will happen. Probably more than one of those things if I'm honest. José will be happy to do all of this and squeeze out the game, hopefully get the goal and win out. Martial will likely be important from the bench here.

Definitely need a 3 man central midfield. I would leave out mata and mikhi for this and simply play with pace and direction upfront. Would like to see martial and rashford supporting lukaku upfront. We need energy in midfield so i would play matic herrera and/or felliani and pogba if miraculously fit. No problems in defence i would keep it the same with Young at left back. Theyll start fast so we'll need to stay mentally sharp for the first 30mins. We'll be dangerous upfront if we select the 3 mentioned. Dont think we should be starting mikhi in this game.

Then who protects the defence? Fellaini, no bloody chance. Pogba pull the other one. Mata .
In our first game against Liverpool last season we played a midfield of Pogba, Fellaini, and Herrera, yet you seem to think a midfield of Pogba, Fellaini, and Matic is suicide despite Matic only adding extra defensive protection

I really wouldn't play Mkhitaryan. He's weakest in an area Liverpool love to exploit. He gives the ball away easily. I fear Liverpool could have a field day with quick transitions if he plays.

How are people predicting Lingard to start over Mikhi ?!

I'm pretty sure if no injures in the break it'll be a Lukaku- Rashford - Mikhi attacking line-up.

Off the back of an international break it's going to be shit. Hope we don't pick up anymore injuries.
Same thing every year, would be nice if they at least put a couple buffer games in for once. We have zero form atm.

Because Mkhi needs time and space on the ball, which is the last thing you'll get against Liverpool.

Press Mkhi aggressively and he is not only taken out of the game offensively, but also a liability defensively - and that is exactly what Liverpool will do.

Not that we disagree, but we're predicting here not saying our opinion on what is best, so Mikhi is a sure starter in this game for me.

Herrera played his best game in a United shirt here last season. Against teams that press us heavily he's one of the few who can keep his cool. Not even Pogba's done that for us yet. He has to start - especially as playing Fellaini in a midfield 2 is just asking for trouble.

Can definitely see Herrera coming in for Mata, with Mhky going wide.

We definitely won't play the mad tactics Arsenal did, or basically leaving Mane and Salah 50yards of open grass to run into on the wings

I think that's the best option, though I wouldn't be against Mata playing over Mkhi as he also played his best game here, too. Not to mention Mkhi scares me with the amount of times he loses the ball!

Our performances have been ok but the finishing has been awful. United have played well and been clinical. That’s the biggest worry for us going into this.

    .....................De Gea
    Valencia ... Jones ... Bailly ... Darmian
    .......................Matic
    .............Herrera ... Fellaini
    Mkhitaryan .... Lukaku .... Rashford

    Darmian for more defensive cover
    3 man midfield for solidity
Fellaini keeps his place following his 2 goals and he will cause Liverpool a headache defensively (Hello Louvren)
    Mkhitaryan wide right (Hello Moreno)

Our depth is far superior to theirs so we will have the bonus of calling upon Martial, Mata and Young/Lingard which I think will make the difference in a tight game.

(Damn I wish Pogba was fit :( )

Very tricky tie. We have to score first, I feel. They are a decent attacking side. Will be tough will be competitive. Impossible to predict. At the moment I have a weird 3 - 2 premonition. Not in a good way.

3-4-3 or 3-5-2 is the way to go in this match.

    de Gea
    Bailly Jones Darmain
    Valencia Fellaini Matic Young
    Mkhitaryan
    Lukaku Rashford

What is our record after international breaks in the last 2 or 3 years? I have a feeling it’s bad. We are always sloppy after them for some reason.

We'll go there to park the bus no doubt. Mourinho will go with a 3 man midfield and Herrera will start to man mark Coutinho I think. Would be great if Pogba could play because I would be more comfident of winning the game with him but it looks like he won't make it. Fellaini will definitely play and I can see him causing chaos for the Liverpool defence. Hopefully there will be no injuries over the international break and to be honest with how poor Liverpool's defence is I wont be happy if we don't get at least a point.

I would love it to be a windy day and for us to win with an offside goal.

What happens if Pogba is fit? Who man marks Coutinho?

    Could this line up work?

    DDG
    Bailly, Jones, Smalling
    Valencia, Fellaini, Matic, Herrera, Darmian
    Pogba
    Lukaku
Pogba will never catch this game IMO. Even if his conditions become better he won't be risked in a match with such a high intensity.

The key of this game is never, ever give any space to Salah and Mane, contain Coutinho and then their attack is 95% over. We'll play contact and close space on them then see what our forwards will do.

Yeah, I also wouldn't trust his form in his first game back for such an important game

So how do you think we line up, minus Pogba?

Fellaini will play. We'll use him and Lukaku to bypass Liverpool pressing us high up the park.

    It'll be

    Dave
    Valencia - Bailly - Jones - Blind
    Herrera - Matic
    Mkhitaryan - Fellaini - Martial
    Lukaku

I'd start Mata and Martial since they have internationals week off.
Save Rashford for when they're tired.

Yeah, most people seem to believe we're going to play 4-3-3, but I believe 3-5-2 is possible too. Not so sure that variant 3-4-1-2 is going to happen, or a proper central midfield three with Fellaini.

Pretty sure Herrera will be tasked with nullifying Coutinho. Key battles will be full backs vs Mane and to a much lesser extent Salah. Pretty confident our attack can get goals against their defence but we have to stop them to win this.
If Valencia arrives very late and tired, Darmian has a chance on the right.

    I'd play this:

    DDG

    Valencia Bailly Jones Darmian

    Fellaini Matic Herrera

    Rashford Lukaku Martial
Without Pogba or Carrick to drop those long balls, kind of doubt we will start two wide-forwards at the same time.

I'll go for the ordinary 4-3-3. We can't afford Young liability in defense against Salah or Mane whoever plays on his side then it'll be Blind or Darmian. Predict Jose will for Darmian and put Rashford on the left as well to provide extra protection from this flank, while Valencia and Mikhi on the right side. The trio of Matic, Herrera and Fellaini shouldn't have big problems in the midfield with Herrera man marking Coutinho specifically.

3-4-3 is an option but I don't think we'll start with it. We may change to it during the course of the game by adding extra defender to hopefully keep the lead or of we decided to escape with a point.

I think we're overall better than them both defensively and offensively but games at Anfield are always tricky. I'll be over the moon if we snatched a 1-0 typical Mourinho win but a draw will be a decent result for me as long as we defeat Huddersfield the next week.

I'd play Lingard for this specific game as he provides faster, better and more reliable defensive work.

Away from home vs a Klopp team means we'll be defending alot and will have to win the game on the counter attack: Lingard and Martial provide the speed required to deliver such.

Agree about Darmian over Young for Left Back.

Yeah, but Mkhitaryan won't/can't play this game in the middle as #10, where is more vulnerable to pressing.

My worry is Bailly, who always comes out of focus from international breaks. Imagine him getting distracted around Mané!

I'd play Rashford on the right and bench Mkhi, but Jose won't. Jose seems to play Mkhi when fit this year, don't see him being benched.
