Souness!!!!! I know he's a Liverpool fan but come on, what is that all about??? Surely some impartiality has to be shown.
Once a cnut, always a cnut. Actually about two years ago he threatened to start being a decent pundit but then he got an atack of Hansen-itis and became the tool you expect from a Scouser (and, yes I know he's Scottish)

No word on the three penalty claims for City?
I really think the little knock Aguero get from Fellaini (the first penalty claim) is not a penalty. If you look at Aguero he gets a knock on the back of his feet, even he gets kicked from behind, he's feet fall backwards, felt like he just tossed himself over because he felt someone touched him. The 2nd one might be more like it, although it looks like Rojo hits the ball between Yayas feet.

    What was the third one?

We really poor in set pieces didnt we? How many corners that we have at the end of the day? If di maria can really take a proper corner we might get one that go in. Piss poor.
Not had a truyle great corner takere since David Beckham left. I do not understand how quality players fail to get it past the first man time after time after time

Honestly it doesn't feel like a lost to me, we held our own in the second half, if it was last season we will be destroyed. Like some said we are improving and smalling rightfully cost us the game. Mcnair was bulled by yaya two tomes but he played well, much room for improvement for him, on his third premier league match he has to face one of the best midfielders in the game. Any news about rojo?

The ref cost us the game !!!! are you for real, if anything the ref saved us from a 3-4 nil defeat today, 2 stonewall pens and another that was very close.
Yeah he was trying to even it out by not giving them the pens. Doesn't change the fact that zaba and demichelis should also have been off

We're not gonna get anywhere with the current mess we have at the back. You can't compete for top 4 if you don't have a defence. Every few days we seem to lose another defender for some reason or another. It's almost like we're being punished for not strengthening at the back properly in the summer. It's no good planning for January, we could be too far off the pace by then. We should definitely be a few points ahead of the Scouse by now.
Biggest disappointment today (apart from Smalling being a spaz) was Di Maria's awful delivery. Bloody Ashley Young could've provided better openings from those corners.
As far as City are concerned we all know they are finishing in 2nd, regardless of the kind of form they are in.

We're not going anywhere with some of these players. They need a fire lit up their asses, I'm sick of these results and the way Van Gaal is molly-coddling those bunch of cnuts. Smalling should never play for us again and that's a fact.

If you'd offered me 1-0 when Smalling got his red, or even more so when Rojo got injured, I'd have bitten your hand off. Not a terrible result all things considered.

While I sort of agree, tell me just who is available. I'd love Strootman but he is injured and Hummels but he's made it pretty clear he wants to stay in Germany. So who?

but the bad luck still seem to be sticking to us from the start of the season....
They should of had 2 or 3 penalties and Rojo should have been sent off. We had most of the decisions thrown our way today and that's why we didn't loose by 3+ goals today.

Yeah. I thought they would of torn us apart tbh but in the end, that last 25minutes, we gave a good account of ourselves.

You'd have bitten a hand off for a loss?

At the end of the day, we still got feck all from the game.

I think it was a difficult game to ref, lots of silly tackles going in when it was hard for the ref to get a clear view. However he definitely missed a few decisions and Zabaleta should've been booked.

This game showed v.important signs of balls and improvement yes we lost but 10 men were actualy men the spirit was new we know we will not win the league this year but its important to look at the bright side after this game we can make top four if we start a winning run. Yes we can do it just believe.

I think we are going in the right way. We seem to get better now at least. Think we will finish 5th ahead of Liverpool. Better than what I thought a month ago.

The title we lost with our 2 point in first three games. I had hopes of it before, but that was because I thought the easy start would give us momentum and an early lead to help u though by taking 6-7 wins out of our 7 easy game at the start.

Someone said this is a decent result :) its a bloody loss! How can a loss be a decent result. We are not in a knockout goal difference situation where a narrow loss can still be good enough.

Smalling cost us the game plain and simple, absolute donkey. Considering we played most of the game with 10 men and majority of the 2nd half with a back four that consisted of 2 midfielders and 2 teenagers we were lucky they didn't run riot. Despite the defeat at least we finished the game on the front foot and didn't just give up.

I really hope in Jan we sign at least one centre back, Jones and Evans are both sick notes and as he showed today Smalling is a donkey.

Really impressed by the reaction by the team towards the end, I think we all expected them to fold and concede a few, and in the end we were unlucky not to draw (though in hindsight the win might be deserved for City due to the penalty calls). But attitude wise, that was very good by the team, they can hold their heads high.

Smalling should be dragged in for extra training on decision making. Probably the same for all of our centre backs actually. He's the bad guy today but apart from not getting sent off, I don't think Evans or Jones would have done better. We're going to be relying on Smalling going forward after his suspension, especially with Rojo out. Who else is going to provide the required height in the box? Really hoping we sign at least one CB in Jan, even if we overspend by £10 million.

Yep, we're getting desperate for points now. Much longer like this and we will be dropping too far off the pace for 4th.
I'd like to see McNair getting a run now, can't be much worse than our other options (if we have any).

I think the key though is the away form now. We need to start beating the smaller teams away. Van Gaal is new to the league, but has to learn fast enough that you need to adapt and be ready for physical battles away from home and mix that with good football to get the points like Chelsea do.

Yes Chris Smalling made a stupid mistake and the game may have been different if he didn't but he is our best CB by a mile so it shows how far our defence has fallen. Plus he will learn from this mistake. That is his first ever sending off I heard the commentator saying?

People need to get off his back.

Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal: "I said to the boys that the willpower, the labour was unbelievable. When you can give that, you can be very proud but we have zero points and in sport it is always the goals that count.
"We were so close, despite playing with 10 men. We created more chances than in the first half. We were close but not close enough today and we have to improve.
"The first yellow card for Chris Smalling, I did not see but OK, the referee gives a yellow card. You know as a player you have a yellow and you cannot do what he did for the second yellow card. That is logical.
"I say a lot of things to the players and despite that they do not always follow what I said. There is also emotion and sometimes you cannot control your emotion but it was not very smart."
On Marcos Rojo's injury: "The shoulder is out, so you never know how long that takes. I have to wait until tomorrow but he shall not play against Crystal Palace.
"We have injuries but we still have 11 players to play and they are very good players. I don't cry for that, but it is sometimes difficult to select the best team. I think I can manage that."

Yes [the sending off influenced the game]. That is always like that. It had a big influence on your opponent but also ourselves. Despite having 10 man we played better in the second half than the first and that is because of the willpower of the team. We created a lot of chances, they fought until the last moment but City had a very good goalkeeper. We are very close but we have to improve.
"The sending off is not one of those things. As a player you have to control your aggression. I didn't see the first yellow but the second you know as a player you have a yellow, so you have to handle it differently. I said that to the players. In the derby you have to be careful. The second yellow card was stupid."

because football is not always about winning, its about the way we play after losing a man and a goal, we was at times stunning after going behind and fought more and looked like we wanted a result, we dont always see that, yes it was a defeat but sometimes good things come out of defeat, remmember a few season ago , City beat us and we come back from that and went on a winning streak.

That last 25-30mins showed a great reaction from the team. I hope we can build on it, we need to really.

Smalling is such a calamity, if it's not on the ball it's his positioning. At the end of the day losing to Man City sucks ass but it's not like it never happens plus we showed a lot of pride and grit second half. I just pray we sign a top centre back in January as our lot are so average it's untrue. Fourth will be a big struggle IMO and to be four points worse off than under Moyes last season really shows what a job van Gaal has on his hands!

We got a fair bit of decisions all most using up all our credit from earlier in the season, but if zabaleta had got the clear yellow cards as well... who knows.
    Was shit refereeing all round.
