Was listening to the athletic build up for the game. They talk about Caseimero and Ericson started if United pack the midfield and it’s like I’d forgotten they were actually with United! Made me think “if we click , just maybeI“ its gas cause it’s only been a few weeks since United played but it feels like months.

This games been written off in my head for along time, “maybe we could squeeze a draw or not get thumped” sums up how I feel.

Regardless I’m sort of excited from a watching game behind the couch point of view.

I wish i was a neutral watching this because it has all the makings of being a cracker. We are either going to take the game to them and shock them like Newcastle did a fee weeks ago or get battered by them.

A lot more pressure on City than us I think. All the talk and Hype is on Haaland and no doubt he will take it in his stride, but ETH should have us set out on the pitch to nullify the supply into him. He can't score for shit if he can't get the ball.

Think we will get a score draw out of this game

We know that city will keep a lot of the ball so I’m wondering if ten Hag goes with a midfield diamond to keep it tight in the middle with 2 up front… maybe rashford and Antony. A midfield of Casemiro, eriksen, mctominay and Fernandes will mean we have physicality, experience and creativity in there. Or we could match them with a 4-3-3 and go all out for it with eriksen, mctominay/Casemiro and Fernandes. That might be the best way as city like there full backs to push high up and Antony likes to hug the touch line so he’ll have plenty of space to do what the hell he wants. Really hope we beat these but I’ll take a draw to keep the momentum.

It will start off as a tactical battle and I would think that the first half would be very tight with City dominating the ball. It is vital that we score first.

We shouldn't be afraid of them anyway that's for sure.

Varane has seen these big games before.
Martinez is a never back down lad.

I'd be worried if Maguire was playing.

It's actually quite nice, knowing that we're not shite anymore but still come to this game with everybody thinking we're gonna get shafted.

I like the mentality of our new team. Should City take the lead, I'd back us to equalize.
Should they win, I don't think we'll go down a spiral of shitness.

This, for me, is where things finally started to change for the better. Whether we'll get something today, is anybody's guess. I surely don't expect much.

To be completely honest I’m not sure I trust Casemiro ti get thrown in for this based on his performances so far. Also I think there’s a lot to be said for having Eriksen there to progress the ball from deep and not waste possession when we do get it and there’s nothing wrong with Christian’s defensive awareness and effort.

But imo this comes down to the fitness of either Rashford or Martial because if neither of them can start I’d like to see Bruno in at false 9. This is absolutely not a game for Ronaldo.

I don’t see us getting anything from this and think we will hit a low if I’m honest.

Not looking forward to the game and will be keeping away from the Caf until next week.

Anything can happen in football. My heart says United keep it tight and controlled and defend well, score a goal on the counter, come away with a 1-0 or 1-1. My head says De Bruyne and Haaland expose us and we have to exercise damage limitation and come away with a 1/2-0 defeat.

You may be surprised. We’ve turned up many times at there ground and surprised them and most of the nation. The game under Solskjær comes to mind when we blew them away.

Everyone in the press thinks we sre getting beat.
Understandable… think they all predicted us to lose to Liverpool and arsenal too. We play better when we’re the outsiders and have less pressure on us.

This is a truly interesting game for neutrals because United seems nearing a turning point, not yet from a technical or tactical perspective but as a unit in front of adversity.

Staying strong all the game long, and without folding irrespective of the result, would give you a sincere boost for the coming games against less formidable teams.

The way we played against Lpool and Arsenal is the exact way you want to play against City. We've done it in the past. I think we have a chance of denying them a win, maybe even steal a win ourselves. Am I too optimistic? Probably.

This is surely why we bought Casemiro it will be a crazy decision not to start him

Far as i'm concerned this is a free hit. They're not our competition this season. So I hope we can actually play some football today and play with freedom. Just have a go. All I want.

I dont think you can flood the middle by going 2 up top against these lot. It gives their full backs full freedom to dictate the game and Cancelo will punish us for that. Match them up in a 433 and have trust in the players to work harder than them and grind out a result.

The key to this game for me is not worrying too much about Haaland and focusing on pressurising KDB and the other supporting midfielders in not having time to pick a pass. By pressing I mean when they enter our half of the pitch. We can’t afford to be pressing too high.

I would let Haaland have the ball to feet as much as he wants but don’t give him space in behind to run into.

Woke up slightly groggy from the night before, am now absolutely buzzing for this today.
Really hope we put in a performance to the level of the Arsenal and Liverpool games.

I think this will happen, it'll be a similar set up to the Liverpool game whereby as soon as the enter our half/third we will be on them, then look to break very quickly.

Bruno will be key in this game. If he's wasteful in possession, we might struggle.

I just hope Ronaldo doesn't start. We can't carry a passenger in a game like this.

I never thought I’d say this in my lifetime after the first 2 games of the season, but I really hope McTominay starts.

The thing is, yes they have been surprised by some teams. But they will be very much up for this one and that's the difference. When they are on it, they are three or four levels above us. I think that will be evident today unfortunately.

Hoping Rashford is fit, which I didn't think I'd be saying earlier in the season. Think we might see this to start though if Rashford/Martial aren't close enough to 100% (and can't see Ronaldo starting either):

    de Gea
    Dalot Varane Martinez Malacia
    Casemiro
    McTominay Eriksen
    Bruno
    Antony Sancho

No way we are not starting our most instrumental player.

Feeling a bit of excitement and nerves ahead of this game now. Don’t forget whatever happens we’re in safe hands with ETH. We’re heading in a direction and playing towards a philosophy which we haven’t had for years so don’t all go in for the kill on Ten Hag if we lose here.
I’m confident about this too, but I do also think people are filling in a few blanks themselves in this narrative. I’m sure we will become a good footballing side, but regardless of result, we’ve not played real good football at all this season. The best thing we have shown is a bit of character. We’ve hardly created any chances, even in games where our opponents were on their knees like Leicester or Sherriff. I can probably count how many shots the likes of Sancho and Rashford have had on target all season on one hand aside from the goals they have scored, and this team doesn’t look like they have a 4 or 5 nil in them against any team no matter how poor they are.

I think speaking well and a reputation of philosophy from Ajax have caused people to take some positive results as a sign that we have transformed our football, but I’ve not seen that at all. Certainly not yet, although I am as confident as you that I will do at some point.

Same goes for Rashford, they are both imperative to how we set up these days it seems.

I think it will be a close game and we'll create decent chances but ultimately not be able to handle sustained pressure. 2-1 CIty.

I'd like to see Eriksen, McT and Casemiro all start. Hopefully Elanga is nowhere near the team.
