with Pogba out I think we might need a change of approach

    ----------------------------DDG-----------------------------
    -------Tuanzebe---Lindelof--Maguire----------
    Wan Bissaka--Fred---McT-------------Young
    --------------------------Mata-----------------------------
    -----------------Greenwood--James---------------

solid in defence and a goal could win it

    Wan Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Young
    McTominay Fred
    Lingard Pogba James
    Greenwood

Think Pogba will pull through, but really a tough spot with Martial and Rashford out. Think it might be beneficial at this point to just keep them out til the international break and then have them fully fit after. Don't risk any further injuries because we rely on them being fit to look competent going forward at least.

If Arsenal fail to beat this Man Utd team, then safe to say they are much worse than us!

They could not have asked for a better time to play us!
They'd be quite happy with a point I'd imagine considering they couldn't beat bottom team when 2 up.

As has been pointed out many times Arsenal at the Emirates and Arsenal away are two completely different teams in approach and mentality.

Point anyway would keep them three clear of Man. United with a very winnable home v Bournemouth next week.

I think the last game Lingard wasn't absolute dog shit was probably the FA cup game vs Arsenal? Guess we'll have to start him as no.9

Would be hilarious(ly depressing) if we couldn't score against Arsenal... a team who seem to insist on trying to help their opponents score goal in pretty much every game

Definitely time for Lingard to do something.

Going back a bit now but he chased them down well in a 2017 league away game, we went 2-0 up early on and won 3-1. Alexis Sanchez battered us for 80 minutes inbetween though. :)

Hoping De Gea, Maguire and AWB can hold them out and perhaps James, Greenwood or Ghost of Lingard can get a goal.

Arsenal are determined to play out from the back and will make mistakes. United need to press and do it right all over the pitch. I hope to god we don't allow them to pass it around freely from the keeper.

It's genuinely embarrassing that Manchester United, arguably the biggest club in the WORLD, can put out a first XI this shockingly bad.

Legitimately not even a top 8 line up that.

How we have fallen, the only way is up I hope, with the current team I think we will finish between 5th and 7th. Were not strong enough to get 4th imo. Although I hope we get 4th (never thought I would say that).

My pick, give Greenwood 60 mins than sub for Martial. Sub Pereira for the forever youthful Lingard (got to give youth a chance) and Pogba for Mata late in the game. No Rashford jis form is terrible and give him a rest after coming off against Astana. No point risking him. We really are lacking decent quality depth.
Pogba aside, that front 6 is genuinely Southampton/Newcastle level.

When is the last time Arsenal beat us at home?
That late Adebayor goal about 15 years ago. It was the game Lehmann made that unreal save from Ole in injury time.

They beat us in the cup not that long ago at OT when Welbeck celebrated like he'd won the world cup.

pains me to post this , but I dont see us getting anything from this game , we heading for a defeat, the squad is paper thin and getting thinner, even when fully fit we are struggling.
Arsenal, Newcastle and Liverpool , next 3 PL games , FFS dont see us getting any points from these and I see Liverpool ripping us apart.
I am not normally like this, but the past few games have knocked all the confidence I had out of me.
Not a pleasant time to be a United fan sadly.

Considering the dire news today it looks like this

    De Gea
    AWB Lindlof Maguire Young

The only ray of hope is that it's Arsenal who have found ways to lose at us despite the circumstances. Even Moyes won this fixture.

Maybe it's their way of showing appreciation that we take all the focus off their recent regressions / stagnation.

Ole playing Pogba for 90 against Rochdale looking even dumber now.

    Good job, fool.

When Martial got injured they were saying he was gonna miss one game, what the feck happened?

Considering the dire news today it looks like this

    De Gea
    AWB Lindlof Maguire Young
    McTom Matic Perriera
    Lingard Greenwood James
That midfield and forward line look Championship level.

We're going to end up playing Greenwood and James so much in the next couple of months they'll have the same experience as Rashford and Lingard last season, and end up with bad recurring muscular injuries by Christmas.

    De Gea
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Young
    Matic Mctom Pereira
    Mata Lingard James

That's a depressing line up to predict. Only one i'm unsure about is Mata and whether Fred or Greenwood plays instead of him, with Pereira on the right instead of in the midfield.

Optimistically I keep thinking back to the 3-2 win against Arsenal with LVG in charge and the line up we had that day was worse than this. Let's do it again :wenger:

I was laughing at how pathetically negative a lot of posters were on here, as Arsenal are no great shakes.

But if there's no Pogba, no Martial and no Rashford, I think a draw suddenly becomes a superb result.

This has to be our best option, on paper at least. The only problem is, Shaw, Fred, Matic, and Lingard are so consistently shit it Arsenal could win easily.

It does seem quite similar to that other time we played Arsenal with an injury list so ridiculous no one gave us a chance.
    Roll on a 3-2 win!

Let's hope instead of Rashford that day, we read Greenwood, and more of the same

Matic? I don’t fancy Guendouzi driving past him for 90mins.

    Fred has to play.

Meh, it's arsenal. As shit as we are I can see a victory for us.
Okay, scratch this. Martial and Pogba both being confirmed out has drained any confidence/optimism I had for this match.

When we basically have our 2 senior strikers out, having gone with 2 senioe strikers in the club's infinite wisdom as being enough for a 50 game season, a 0 will be no surprise.

i mean it couldve worked, but unfortunately we like to play rash left and martial up top at same time. Figured at some point theyd get injured, just thought it would be later on. Now is the time for greenwood to start though up top, no excuse for Ole to not. You wanted him as your 3rd striker, it is his time to play now then. Ill be excited to see that at least

It couldn't have possibly worked, for that reason you give - the one not in the centre is still essential out wide!

We're such a joke and just don't learn.

It was only 2 years ago that Jose was lamenting having strikers at the top and bottom of the age scale - wanting his mid 20s guy at peak age. For a season Lukaku looked a reasonable bet.

Now we're back to just a bunch of kids up front again.
Could be marvellous in 4-5 years, but you suspect it won't be!

Joelinton-Almiron-Maxim with Shelvey-Longstaff is a better front 6, Pogba excluded, at legit every single position.

How have we allowed this to happen?

Time for Ole and the coaching staff to have some fun tactical tweaks.

For one, how about 3 central midfielders. Matic, Fred and McTominay can at least match the work rate against Arsenal's central midfield that is consistently out of position. Let Matic sit deep and run himself around in a limited space with Fred and McTominay.

Time for a false nine/diamond with Lingard between Greenwood and James. Lingard can still press and pass in behind to James like he did when he came on against West Ham.

The most forward and action players of Greenwood, James, Lingard, McTominay and Fred don't lack for energy and pace. Get in the face of Arsenal and force their backline and Xhaka to make poor decisions on the ball. It continues to happen time and again for Arsenal. Yes their attacking players could rip United apart, but if they don't get service and runners are tracked, Arsenal will find the match in the balance like all their league matches so far.

United scoring a goal is an entirely different story, but because Arsenal is so shit at the back, United will have a few good chances.

    No Pogba,Matial or Rashford..ffs!
We are in poor form, barely score goals and have injuries on key players.
I can see a crushing defeat coming,it was a tough match before the injuries so this will be a big struggle.
Not looking forward to this one.

This squad has won big games without Pogba before, when the tactics were spot on. Without Martial, Lukaku and Rashford though? Hahahaha.

That's all very well, but we can't even take a decent corner. We're going to get schooled I fear.

With all our injuries if we keep a clean sheet we get a point. If Arsenal aren’t well up for this game then they are hopeless.

With Pogba, Martial and Rashford injured, we'd be lucky to walk away with a draw.

Really can't see us winning this. Auba will have a field day.
