"Should" and "Will" have been very different things for us over the last while though.
I'm more talking about our fans expectations. The fans should expect to win this. Whatever happens on the pitch, we shouldn't be going into this saying 'mctominay will start, we can't beat any team in the league'

I honestly can't believe we are heading into yet another season with McFred in midfield and worrying that Martial isn't fit to start upfront. But here we are.

I can - because Laurel & Hardy are mini-me versions of Woodward

Come on people, the league is about to start again, let’s get excited!

Yes, the transfers haven’t been what we’d hoped, both in and out. but, we did get the manager most of us wanted, Erickson is a fantastic addition, Sancho in a better system will be like a brand-new player same could also be said Fernandes.

Most importantly the team we all supposedly support our back playing competitive football and and I’m once again excited for this season to start getting back to old Trafford.
Are you implying that there are posters here masquerading as United supporters?

One thing that has become an undeniable reality since SAF left: any game we play is a source of anxiety. We, as fans, always believe in team's ability to win any game (because we are United) but we also, without a shred of a doubt, can always lose against ANYBODY. Not even talking about EPL sides, necessarily. Literally anybody is always a threat for us.

So I am gonna keep my expectations very low here, and hope for the best.

You must enjoy an emotional roller coaster. Good for you, but when you pump yourself up with high expectations, the disappointment will also sting harder.

Would be a shock if he doesn't start. Who else do we have that will score goals? Even a half fit ronaldo is the best option...sadly
Press saying “Ronaldo flying in training.” Probably PR spin but if he’s staying he needs to bang em in.

Eriksen must play. Brilliant signing and very underrated. His stats are insane. Of course, it’s only 11 matches in PL. Nevertheless.

I expect Ronaldo on the bench, but if he starts then i woudnt be surprised if we get a good performance from Ronaldo. He's not the kind of guy to do a public apology, but i think he will put the effort in to apologize on the pitch, if you get me.

I‘m guessing Ronaldo will start. It would be mental not to just to make a point.

Garnacho will come off the bench.

There's no point to make, he'd have to bench 5 or 6 players who left early if he was trying to.
Ronaldo was the only one in the squad. Don't see Ronaldo starting anyway, he had no preseason and missed a lot of team training. Think it will be Elanga, Rashford and Sancho

Not really, ETH needs to show he is the boss right from the off, making concessions for Ronaldo in the first game would not be a good look imo.

The three that deserve it are Rashford, Garnacho, and Sancho, they put the work in at pre season, and should be the most ready to go, Ronaldo can have 20 minutes at the end if we still need a goal.

I think Ronaldo will be on the bench. I suppose that means Rashford up front, Bruno filling in on the wing, Eriksen at no10.

I think Martinez will start somewhere, probably at CB which means Fred and McT in CM, I’m afraid.

I said 2-2 earlier but now I’m thinking that’s too pessimistic. Home win. 3-2.

Hard to pick a side,I think i would go with something like

    D.D.G
    Dalot Maguire Martinez Shaw
    Mctom Fred
    Eriksen Bruno Sancho
    Rashford
A nervy 2-1 win hopefully. Brighton are a very well coached and organised side it will be difficult.

Very good point. It is exactly the kind of thing he would do. He will probably bang in a hattrick to get it right up us.
Problem then is by Monday, the rumour will be he is to good for us and needs CL and we go around and around again.
    It really is a shitshow

Anyone know much about how Brighton will line up without Bissouma and to a lesser extent Cucurella?? I.e. have they a replacement or can we hope McFred or whatever combo we go with has the advantage in midfield. If Brighton have a real rookie in there, may be a chance for Iqbal to be put in...

Sadly I think Ronaldo starts. His ego is so inflated and it just seems to me like he will do whatever he wants on the pitch. He's a big baby and would be glad to see him gone. I would like to see Martinez start but it does worry me a little that he hasn't played with Maguire yet.

    De Gea
    Dalot--Maguire--Martinez--Malacia
    McTominay--Fred
    Sancho--Bruno--Rashford
    Ronaldo

Subs: Heaton; Shaw, Lindelof, Bailly; VdB, Iqbal/Hannibal, Eriksen; Garnacho, Elanga

Do worry about the lack of height on the left side of defence though. Malacia is short and we know that Martinez is short for a CB. And can't believe we're heading into another season with McTominay starting, it's incredible really.

I'd personally prefer to start Rashford up top and bring Eriksen in, pushing Bruno out to the left but that's just me. Something like this:

    McTominay--Fred
    Sancho--Eriksen--Bruno
    Rashford
It'd give us more control and creativity but admittedly less of a goal threat.
