I don’t know why people keep putting Pellistri in their lineups. It will be either Bruno moved to the right or Rashford on the right with Garnacho on the left. But since Brighton will look to control the midfield, it will very likely be Bruno moving to the right to add an extra body to midfield.

Don`t know if you just rate Evans higher than Lindelöf, but he is fit. Just felt ill during our last game.

I don’t think Bruno will be moved. He’s too important in the middle now. Logically I can see the argument but I think EtH will want to stay as close to his 4141 as possible so it will be Rashford at RW with Nacho coming in at LW.

I prefer that too. Bruno shines in CAM role regardless of the formation and I also wouldn’t move him. I still think ETH will consider moving him to the right as a stop gap.

Think people are putting Pellistri there because it makes a world of sense. He is a natural right winger, and by the looks of it, he might be the only natural right winger we have available for the Brighton game. And he has shown he can play well there. Tenacious, quick, can dribble a fair bit, can beat a defender on the outside and get the ball in the box. With a player like Höjlund there now, we also have a player in there that will fight teeth and nails to get infront of his defender and get a toe on that ball into the box.

Starting Bruno on the right would make no sense at all and I hope we never see it again. Starting Rashford on the right makes no sense at all either. Neither are RW players and since we actually have a RW player in the squad (this is all assuming Antony and Sancho are both out for extracurricular reasons), his name being Facundo Pellistri. We shall see, but Pellistri might just give us a lot more than Antony has. And now that we have a proper target man, I have no doubt Pellistri will be a better fit for Hojlund that Antony would have ever been.

We could see Garnacho on the right, but please let it not be Rashford.

I’d love to see Pellistri given a shot. Whether it is likely is another matter.

The thing about Rashford playing there is that it allows Nacho to come in and play on his favoured side and retains Rashford’s goal threat. Even if he doesn’t look natural at RW, Rashford has scored when starting there - in the main, as I recall, his goals come through the middle but that’s okay - as long as he follows his rules across the whole match.

Pellistri, for me, is an exciting, penetrative winger with a skillset that could produce chances for Hojlund. But to get picked, he has to convince EtH that he can follow all his rules and do all the jobs that the RW has to do in this system. Maybe he can, maybe he can’t; we haven’t seen enough of him to make a proper assessment.

Bruno is rubbish on the right. He should always play in the middle.

I can’t see Ten Hag starting Pellistri. I’d be keen to start McSauce again after he bags the winner vs England.

    Onana
    AWB - Lindelof - Martinez - Dalot
    Amrabat - Casemiro
    McSauce - Bruno - Rashford

I'm desperate for Pellistri to start for us. The amount of game time he got for us so far is actually a crime, Whenever he gets on the pitch he adds something different for us. Are we supposed to believe that his positive cameos as a sub will immediately transform to terrible performances as a starter? Yes of course there is a great chance that he'll look crap, but that doesn't mean his performances as a sub don't merit the occasional start. I mean how is a young player supposed to try and do better if no matter what he does he never gets picked. How much worse do Antony Sancho and Bruno need to be for him to be looked at? The Pellistri situation is one of the weirdest things in our squad.

ETH prefers a left footed right forward, hence why Pellistri played left wing in pre-season.
If he has to play a right footer there then he probably prefers someone more experienced and disciplined.

What on earth from that post suggested that? I've listed Maguire and Evans starting as that's the worst case scenario.

Think we will win this one.

We are usually good when we have to defend deep and counter attack. It will be a bit like 4 days later against Bayern.

I think Ten Hag would be clever to train Garnacho on the right for this period as we can do with his speed and directness on the right.

    My team :

    -----------------------------------------------------------Onana-----------------------------------------------------------------
    Wan Bissaka-------------------------Lindelof-------------Martinez-----------------------------------------Dalot
    ---------------------------------------------Casemiro-----------Erisken----------------------------------------------------
    ------------------------------------------------------------Bruno------------------------------------------------------------------
    Garnacho--------------------------------------------Martial---------------------------------------------------Rashford

Bit of difficult to predict the line up now with all the injuries and off field issues.

    I think i'd play:

    ------------------------------------Onana------------------------------
    AWB---------------Lindelof------------Martinez------------Dalot
    -------------------Casemiro-------------Amrabat--------------------
    Bruno------------------------Eriksen--------------------------Rashford
    ---------------------------------Rasmus--------------------------------------

Either this or Garnacho to replace Eriksen and play on the right.

The team above might actually help us with recent problems as there are 4 players that can naturally drop in to the centre of midfield when needed. This is something City do really well to pack out and win the midfield battle.

even this early in the season, this almost feels like a must-win game. certainly can't afford to lose it like last year. If we play like we did in the second half at Emirates, and don't have clown in the VAR centre, we should be alright

I think Martinez will be OK. Saw a photo of him with tht Argentina squad this week. Obviously doesn’t mean he’s playing, but seemed to be looking comfortable.

    Hope this is true.

Crazy to think he's probably one of our most important players, considering the British media's opinion on him after the first game.

Hope so… he’ll be massive against a team like Brighton with his calmness at the back and his progressive passes.

Brighton have "constantly wiped the floor with us in recent years"

Last league meeting was a 1-0 loss whereby the only goal came from a penalty in the 99th minute, weren't wiped on the floor there

Meeting before then was in the FA Cup semi final, 0-0 after extra time with United winning on penalties , again weren't wiped on the floor.

Old Trafford meeting last season a 2-1 defeat in a game that Brighton had just 37% possession and 222 less passes, deserved their win as they defended and attacked better but wiped the floor they did not.

Overall Premier league record against Brighton in Old Trafford (2017 to 2023 all recent years)

    P6 W5 D0 L1 scored 11 and conceded 5
This is my point. Brighton are not better than us, and have never been better than us. We can dissect the reasons as to why they are not better than us all we like, but the fact is, if they were a better football team, they would finish above us. Maybe even just once.

The idea of being unable to see how we can win a home match against a team that isn’t as good as us is odd. It will not be an upset or a shock if we beat Brighton. Personally, I think we will beat them, and then also go and turn Bayern over in the week.

And for all the deliberating over who plays at right wing, I suspect people are overthinking it and it would almost certainly, and logically, be Sancho. There’s a very minor incident fed upon to try and run as much media mileage out of as possible. A player unhappy about not being selected is normal, his statement was not this hugely disrespectful account people are making it out to be and all the fecking ‘should never play for the club again’ drama queens need to have a word with themselves. Really dislike this era that we are living through.

This. It has been blown out of proportion cos it is United. Great opportunity for Sancho to get a run of games with his mate on the left and a real striker to aim for, plus a more solid midfield behind him.

I think you’re right, but we’re seeing it though even with Garnacho who has been absolutely electric at times off the bench scoring late winners etc., that he looks crap when he starts. Pellistri hasn’t really done that much off the bench other than look decent at times. I don’t recall any game changing moments. The manager watches him everyday in training and we should trust that he knows when he can start.

I get the whole “stick him in he can’t be any worse than other options” mentality but we don’t want to wreck a player’s confidence, I think it’s important to ease them in. Pellistri looked way out of his depth starting at the World Cup even if he wasn’t dogshit.

Last bit I'm not so sure, United the last year have ben poor against the top ten in PL away and Bayern Munich are among the best side in this seasons Champions league so I'm thinking a draw would be a very good result for United.

Bayern Munich are not as strong as the top English sides IMO and I think any of the top English sides would beat them if they play at their top level.

Maybe so but they'd be stronger Brentford,Villa,Brighton,West Ham,Sevilla who United lost to away last season. A point in Munich and beating them in Old Trafford would go a long way to topping the group.

If Amrabat is fit, why in the world would anyone not want him on the field for this? We got him to deal with the types of problems that a team like Brighton will cause in the middle of the park.

He hasn't played all pre season and had a minor injury during internationals. I wouldn't risk starting him, but I don't think it's a game for Eriksen either. McT might have to be the play for the moment.
