Dyche said he is going to make a lot of changes for their FA cup tie against City. The cnut is throwing the game away so they can be fresh against us.
Well they’re not gonna win the FA Cup anyway.

Well at least City can rest players too and be fresh to win the league.

On a serious note. Our midfield is where we seem weak in rotating. Our other options are so poor.

We need to figure out a way to play without Matic in the team - that one week where we have PSG, Arsenal, PSG and City will require a lot of rotation and Matic won’t be able to play all the games.

Bring Fred in for Matic, move Herrera to holding midfield.

I hope we’ll see Dalot and Fred for this one. We really need them to step up and show their worth.

Oh, and, probably, a long shot but Sanchez on the right? Has to be tried at some point.
Yup, Sanchez on the right, or in the middle with Rashford right as a fluid front three.

They play City away on Saturday then have two days before Old Trafford. Hopefully the fresh legs of Martial and Rashford will help us get a result.

Not bothered about the fashion or number of goals - this looks like a potential banana skin so any sort of win would be great.
The last time we were supposed to be fresher than our opponents, we gassed out at the 60mins mark (spurs)

Anyways, we owe these guys a trouncing and I'm confident we'll deliver with 5 of our 6 attackers currently delivering.

Actually not true, the first one of these 2 games was this ridiculous game :

    https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/37737710
    That game was ridiculous.
After Tom Heaton's heroics, the following weekend, I thought I'd check up on him. I think he conceded 4 goals (or something like that), which is when I realised that that game against us was the match of his life. He'll never do anything close to that, again.
38 shots and we could not get one of them in.

I don't trust Fred at all. However, given that Matic can't play all those matches, we may not have a choice.
    What about Scott McT?

I can't see us not winning this game at the moment, even if Burnley are on great form as well. It could be another Brighton where it ends up nervy, or it takes a while to break them down. But I think at worst, we will win this game 2-1 or 1-0 and get over the line.

We have two away games (Leicester and Fulham) up to next, where I think Matic and Herrera will be more important, so I can see one or both being rested on Tuesday night. I also think Mata could replace Lingard and Dalot replace Shaw. Rashford and Martial might come back in as well, and obviously de Gea.

    de Gea
    Dalot Lindelof Jones Shaw
    Fred Pereira Pogba
    Mata Rashford Martial
    ---
Romero; Young, Bailly; Matic, Lingard; Sanchez, Lukaku

We can't take Burnley too lightly, even at Old Trafford, but it is the easiest game for us to try and rest Matic/Herrera in the foreseeable future. Our next opportunity for this probably wouldn't be until March 2nd when we play Southampton at home. Between this game and then, we play Leciester (A), Fulham (A), PSG (H), Liverpool (H) and Crystal Palace (A). Then after Saints it's the return against PSG (A), Arsenal (A) and Man City (H), but the latter will likely be rescheduled.

I agree. Herrera played very few minutes under Mourinho and had the summer off.

But it could be a good idea to bring in Smalling too. We need aerial presence against Burnley. And if we replace Matic with Fred it will be even more important.

Wonder how many dives Ashley Barnes is going to commit when receiving the ball and being "fouled" from behind. I'd say 5 or 6.

Genuinely very excited for each game now. If nothing else, I’ll always harbour good will towards Ole + his team for this glorious turnaround. Long may it continue though, obviously.

I concur re. the sentiment giving Matic a bit of a breather where possible. Burnley, Leicester, Fulham then PSG. Plenty of time to divvy out some minutes among the likes of Fred, Fellaini and possibly Perreira and McT.

Only thing I worry about is our not physically imposing defenders having a difficult time against that slide cnut Barnes.

Have to rest some midfielders. Have to. I so worry about mental fatigue, injury.Last night was a tough, tough game.

Fred, McTominay... they have to damn well step up.

Matic and Herrera need to be rested but there are no alternatives.

Nice info write-up in the OP. Had no idea they were so innovative back in the day, or that our head to head record was that close.

    Dalot--Lindelof--Jones--Shaw
    Herrera--Matic--Pogba
    Mata--Rashford--Martial

Try to get Pogba off after the 60th minute. I would consider starting Pereira/Fred and resting Herrera too. At the same time, Burnley has been in good form recently and we can't afford to drop points.

We really could have done with an easier FA cup game so we could rest some players.

Burnley actually have a very good record against United, and they actually have a record of beating us 9 games in a row back around WW1. What was strange was that when we finally did manage to beat them again - we won 6-1 at O.T in 1925

In recent times - their record however has been horrible despite a few strong draw the last couple of seasons. The win in 2009 with Carrick missing a penalty is their only win against us in the last 25 matches (in all competitions).

But they do have a strange habit of picking up draws away to us - and have 6 draws in their last 12 visits to Old Trafford

But we didn't have Solskjaer then :)
That last part renders your entire post redundant. History means nothing when it involves Moyes, LVG and Merinho.

They'll be tired from the City game and to be honest, if we win by less than three goals I'll be disappointed. That's how spoilt we've become with Ole.

I really hope to see Dalot, Fred and Pereira stealing the show.

Absolutely no way we are losing this, right?...

It’s nice to look forward to watching our games again.

    3-0 United.

Don't understand all the rotation everyone wants.
Strongest line up for me with Baily back in for Jones.

I guess people don't like to have a settled team, which was the complaint under previous manager.

Feel a lot more confident of beating them after the pasting they took from City this afternoon. I know they rotated but it still ends their mini winning run

Neither do I . You don't get tired of winning. Plus those players have hardly done any running for half a season. Weve been bottom of distance covered charts so why should they be tired? It doesn't make sense to me. Go strong win the match and make changes if we need at the end.

Is Smalling fit yet? We could do with his aerial strength against them, if not then Jones for Lindelof, give him a rest as he may struggle a little with Burnleys physicality. Rest Lingard also, don't think Burnley will have many spaces at the back for him to make runs into, bring in Fred, and play Pogba further forward. Dalot for Young, and let him and Shaw maraud forward at will, but keep the width, we will have to work hard to break these down.

Why Bailly out of interest? When was his last good game? It’s got to be about a year ago now.

Think itll be routine and Ole will get the record for most consecutive wins for a new manager but I can see us dropping points in the next game against Leicester tbh. Just hard to keep it up endlessly but great to look forward to every game.

Two main reasons I can see, firstly, with some players they are susceptible to injury when they are physically tired after a run of games, secondly, Ole will need to see how players perform both individually and within a team framework, so will need to give them the opportunity when he can. I have no doubt that he is forming an idea in his head of which players he would want to keep next season, so will need to assess each one. Didn't Bailly play last night?

Only because I have more faith in him than Jones. If Mike Smalling is available then i'd put him in alongside Lindelöf.

I'd like to see Martial and Rashford either side of Sanchez for this one. They will sit back with 11 men behind the ball so we'll need a bit of guile that Lingard perhaps lacks. They always turn up against us too.

    I would go with:

    De Gea

    Dalot Lindeloff Bailly Shaw

    Fred Matic Pogba

    Lukaku Rashford Martial

Rest Young, Herrera and Lingard, give a run of games to Bailly. Then providing things are going well, take Pogba off in the second half.

Rest for Pogba, Matic and Lindelöf and Young.

How on Earth might Fred step up when he doesn't play at all? I mean, give him at least half a chance (that is, not a sub cameo for 5 minutes, but a longer stint with good players around) and then slate... There is no reason to believe he will be shit if given a start alongside Pogba and Matic/Herrera, we need at least try - and why not against Burnley?
