Not feeling positive at all about this

Burnley under Kompany are a very different proposition and scoring goals for fun at the moment. They’ve also benefited firstly from a few weeks rest for the majority of the squad followed by playing two competitive games.

We are always notoriously shit after an international break, but are even worse when there is any degree of squad rotation.

    Fully expecting an upset here.

It feels like a new season tbh… no one can change my mind that Garnacho’s winner was last year.

Honestly no idea how we lineup - if I had to guess:
    Dubravka
    AWB - Maguire - Lindelof - Malacia
    McTominay - Eriksen
Elanga - Van de Beek - Garnacho
    Martial

    2-0 United, Martial 2x.

I would like to think garnacho will start this one considering how we last left off before the world cup with him saving the team from more dropped points

That’s a poor side, who could and very possibly would lose to a very much Premier League quality side in Burnley. Since you’re guessing Ten Hag’s side, I see where you’re coming from in terms of match fitness, but this is a serious chance to win a trophy as should we proceed, only one of City and Liverpool will be around in terms of Big 6 sides, alongside Newcastle. Considering that, I’d personally go for a strong team:

    De Gea
    Dalot Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    Casemiro
    Bruno Eriksen
    Antony Rashford Garnacho

Martial very unlucky to miss out.

Undoubtedly the biggest game this week. Footballing founders travelling to the Theatre of Dreams.

Who will prevail in this clash of titans?

Why would you bench Martial? Jesus....
And no one who played in 1/4 of WC will play (maybe Malacia/Maguire?). They just returned to Carrington today.

Martinez hasn't played since the quarter final and is match fit. Put him in the starting 11.
World cup only finished yesterday and will need to travel back from Qatar. No chance he is ready and definitely deserves a break for a week or two

Lindelof Maguire starting in this and likely the next game. (shudder)
I've seen a lot of speculation about this. Where is this coming from, have we confirmed Martinez/Varane are getting time off that will exclude them from the Forest game on the 27th?

They can have 5 days off and return to training on the 24th and be starting our next league game. We shouldn't be messing about with important league fixtures.

Martinez might have time off for celebration but he didn’t overly play during the World Cup to the point t he needs that much time off

All players have a week off.
Well if they're back in training on Monday 26th they should play.

But even so, I would hope Varane and Martinez don't want to voluntarily miss important league fixtures. If they can elect to have 5 days off instead and not miss any games then it's a no-brainer.

Choosing 2 players to start between Martial, Rashford and Garnacho isn’t exactly a no brainer. Also, they’ve just returned to training, good, they haven’t exactly not been active for three months have they? Match fitness is still pretty much 100% for every player.

Sounds insane but Burnley should be favourites for this. Would be surprised if we put on anything resembling a decent performance let alone win the game.
They’ve been playing for weeks, and playing well and will no doubt raise their game even further.
We’ll obviously be well short of a strong team too.

Burnley beat Middlesbrough at the weekend, scoring 3 relatively quick goals after going 1 down. They looked most un-Burnley like in that they carried a relatively constant attacking threat. Obviously Middlesbrough aren't Utd, but they were in good form and if we play a full second string the difference in level won't be huge. Bit of a potential banana skin, as always, but especially after the long break for World Cup, since the Championship clubs aren't as rusty.

If we look at the U21's that played yesterday, Rhys Bennett was subbed at half time. Which might indicate, that he perhaps will be on the bench tomorrow vs Burnley. With Lindelöf and Maguire starting.
Mainoo, Hansen & others played full time. No Zidane Iqbal, so he will probably be involved tomorrow vs Burnley.

    ..................... De Gea

    Bissaka - Lindelöf - Maguire - Shaw

    ..... McTominay - Zidane - Eriksen

    ... Rashford - Martial - Garnacho

    Subs: Pellistri, Malacia, vdB, Elanga
Don't think we'll risk a Wan-Bissaka injury with him out the door, so Dalot plays the next 5 games straight before an 8 day rest before the City and Arsenal games.

If a different RB starts a game my guess is it will be against Bournemouth, though no idea who the hell it would be. Maybe Malacia or Lindelof.

I was impressed with Bennett's passing against Betis, I could see Ten Hag liking him as the 5th choice CB with the hope being he does well and can fill the same role next as Maguire is replaced with a new CB. I guess he's not a big prospect (doesn't seem to get England youth caps or get talked up here much) but I'm not surprised at all Ten Hag promoted him to the first team with us only having 4 CB.

Is Tuanzebe still injured? He's 25 already.. what's going on with him? Always injured?

I like him as a central defender. And think he will be back-up the next few weeks, as we are limited in that area at the moment, until Martinez and Varane get back from their holidays after the World Cup.
We just have Maguire and Lindelöf at the moment, which might be fragile in a packed schedule.

Martinez will probably celebrate the title in Argentina and wont be back in time for the game.

No idea what kind of team we are going to put out but I’m delighted that normal service is resuming. Going to be a difficult game, only just getting players back and this game might come too soon for the team to get their rhythm back.
