We will be looking at this lineup if Shaw, Pogba and Martial are unavailable.
    .
    .
Degea, Valencia, Smalling, Lindelof, Young, Matic, Fellaini, Herrera, Mata, Lukaku, Sanchez.
    .
    .
Proper midtable side. I expect us to try and bring Palace down to our level and then try and get at least a point.

    De Gea
    Valencia, Bailly, Lindelöf, Darmian
    Herrera, Matic, Fred
    Mata, Lukaku, Rashford

    That would be my team.

Don't worry guys, Valencia is also injured as far as we know.

Christ. I dont even like Shaw but if he's out, its Young and Valencia as geriatric, useless full-backs.

Also, I'd hope Jose can make it difficult for Palace.

And that the fans will be in full song, showing their support:

"Every single one of us will stand by David Moyes" and all that, remember?

The derby was always likely to be a loss, so I wasn't too worried as we have the international break after a few tough away games and then we have a couple of relatively easy home games in a row, to be honest. Palace and Young Boys have to be 2/2, then we've got Southampton away who are even worse at scoring than we are. We could easily find ourselves right in the mix for top four and be confirmed in the last 16 of the Champion's League. Everything suddenly looks OK if that happens. Then, if we did manage to go three for three, we play Arsenal at OT who have Bournemouth away and Spurs, where dropped points, are probably more than likely. If we can beat them, it's very possible we can be above Arsenal and right up Spurs' arse going into the Christmas period.

For this game, I'd like to see Matic not play, but that's probably unlikely:

    de Gea
    Young Smalling Lindelof Shaw
    Herrera Pogba
    Mata
    Rashford Sanchez Martial

Easy home games? Since when has it been easy for us any game be it home or away? We could not even put Newcastle to the sword at OT and had to come back two goals behind to win 3-2. And Newcastle was the bottom team? I would say we would be lucky to beat Crystal Palace the way things are going.

To be fair prior our game against Newcastle the clubs confidence was at a all time low. Also the fact Jose was rumoured to be outed after the game hardly helped matters. All things considered I was surprised we came back into that game and won.

And Palace have a good team. It's just their attack that is holding them back.

Our defence is holding us back, so I guess we are about even.

On a serious note, if we do lose this, then fans will have the right to go ballistic. We are in 8th place with a negative goal difference. Jose simply has to win every game against lesser teams and try and get a draw/win against the top 6 (MCFC, excepted, as they are too good).

So, if we only have 1 fullback available to play, in 2 positions, who is going to play?
Young will play in one of the slots. Who'll play in the other?

For god sakes no Matic please. He's clearly struggling and Palace is a fast paced team. Pretty please

    Lingard over Mata
Mata is too clever to be in that team

    Let’s be honest.

We’re not going to drop our £75-90 million striker for much longer. This is a good game for him to make a reappearance in my opinion.

Hope he can start showing some form.

Darmian is a better CB than Young. It seems that everyone who is at United under Jose are regressing. Darmian playing for Italy is an entirely different player than the Darmian we have. He joins the attack and defends well and is a regular in their side.

Time to freshen things up. Assuming pogba and martial make recoveries.

I assume Belgium have a couple of games coming up? He's done far better for them recently, but if he can put in a couple of good performances for them it will do him good. Personally I'd put Sanchez back in, we need a real alternative to Lukuku that's actually given a chance.

Obviously with Belgium the opposing the defenders have a lot more to worry about than Lukaku. They have Eden Harzard and KDB to deal with. So Lukaku has more time and space to try to control the ball and do his thing.

This is the sort of game that I still trust Jose to win. Everyone knows what you need to do to beat Palace. Take Zaha out the game.

Now, I think that Zaha will be up for this but as I trust Jose to put a plan together that'll see us through.

    Just fecking attack!!
I take it you are not a fan of parking the bus and focusing on backwards/sideways passing?

I'd be tempted to play Fellaini up front and go long ball.
Tell the runners around Fellaini to be ready to receive the ball after Fellaini chests it down.
This will completely bypass our midfield and defence.

Unfortunately for us hoofing the ball up to the centre forward seems to be the only way that Mourinho knows how to attack mate.

I’m with you though, I’d take that over the dreadful, negative way we start matches.

The hoofball approach could've got us a result at MCFC.
Parking the bus is the worst possible tactic to use against MCFC, because that's what they are used to facing.
Had we put Fellaini up front - with DDG hoofing it to him, so he can chest the ball down for Martial/Rashford/Mata/whoever, to shoot at goal, this would've been far more effective.
I noticed during that match, that when the ball was in the air, the MCFC players could not handle Fellaini's aerial ability.

I know that it sucks that it's come to this, but we need to play according to our strengths and right now, given how bad our defenders play, parking the bus is the worst option we can use.

If true, this could be the final nail in Jose's coffin. There will be zero goal threat or creativity on the pitch, at home, against a small team.

Yes thats the only way to play them with this team. At least the ball would have been in their box. I just saw the Rooney goals and it make my blood boil. How pathetic is this team we have. Even Djemba x 2 would have been a regular in this team. How on Earth can anyone think Lukaku is a player to lead a team like United?

Pogba was poor v juve and martial was poor v city so I’m not sure it will affect us that much ,we just beat juve away lost to city (which we expected ) I don’t see how any result v Palace would affect his job.

Well, we could play Lukaku. He may score a goal against a CP team who aren't particularly good.
Lukaku's strength is to score against lesser teams, but never scoring against the top 6.

I have noticed that Zaha seems to be always looking for a free kick this season and gets dispirited easily. Best way to play him is to get him isolated so he has to pass back or take on too many defenders and loose the ball.
