I´d like to see our home record going on, so a win should be the only acceptable outcame here. Even our second string should easily beat CSKA

I´d like to see Pogba going the distance as he has a 3-week-break upcoming anyway.

Up front I´d love to see Rashford linking up with Ibra, feeded by Miki and Mata. Fellaini should get playtime as well to be prepared for the derby.

Maybe Lingard should be given a 20min spell as well, just to not put him out of his current run completely.

Make sure to rest all others (DDG, Valencia, Young, Romelu, CBs)

None of the players who will play against City should take part in this game. We have already played 5 games in 15 days (many of them played for their National teams too), so it's good time to rest before the start of very busy schedule starting from very difficult fixture against City (8 games in 21 days)

Lukaku, Martial and Smalling played 5 out of 5 games.
De Gea and Valencia played 4/5 games
Matic started 4 games and also played as sub in 5th game.
    Young started 4 games.

So it's better to give all the first team players break, would go with

    --------------------Romero
    -------Tuanzebe - Lindelof - Blind

    Darmian Pogba McTominay Shaw

    ----------------Mata*

    ---------Zlatan - Rashford

    * or Mkhitaryan

Or we can just go with Blind in the midfield instead of McTominay and 4 at the back (will never happen though).

Expect muscular injuries if we play our full strenght team. Valencia, Smalling, Young, Matic, Martial and Lukaku should all be rested

McTominey and Tuanzebe to come on for Ander and Rojo if we are fine at HT. Probably Zlatan coming off around 60min, possibly for a non-scoring Rom who needs confidence.

Romero; Darmian, Smalling, Lindelof, Blind; Herrera, McTominay, Pogba; Mata, Rashford, Lukaku.

4-3-3 and get Lukaku and Rashford back scoring. Also, let Pogba get forward as much as possible allowing Herrera marshal the midfield - needs to pick up form for the weekend.

Ain't going with a 4-3-3 against a team like CSKA at home. We aren't gonna be thrashed.

Jose won't start McTominay. He will want to give some minutes to Mkhi to prove himself.

Main points that I think the presser has given us:

Romero starts in goal. Lindelof will start. Pogba will start. Zlatan will be on the bench, Shaw is in the squad. Matic and de Gea are not in the squad, nor Fellaini, Jones, or Bailly. Judging from this, squad is likely:

    Romero
    Pereira

    Smalling
    Lindelof
    Rojo
    Darmian
    Blind
    Shaw
    Tuanzebe

    Pogba
    Herrera
    McTominay
    Mata
    Mkhitaryan
    Lingard

    Lukaku
    Ibrahimovic
    Rashford
    Martial

Young or Carrick potentially in, I am almost certain Valencia will be rested, he has been for most mid-week games and played every Premier League game so far.

    I'd say team will be:

    Romero

    Darmian Smalling Lindelof Blind
    Pogba Herrera
    Rashford Mata Martial
    Lukaku

Bench: Pereira Shaw Rojo Carrick/McTominay Lingard Mkhitaryan Zlatan

Maybe Mkhitaryan in the starting lineup but Martial has started every CL game so far. Don't think Zlatan is yet fit enough to start games. Martial, Herrera and Rashford the probable players subbed off.

Zlatan on the bench? Didn't see Jose' presser, but the quote was "not available for tomorow". Hope Luke plays, give Young some rest. Carrick might play too. Maybe what Jose said was a hint. So far I have 3/11 for CSKA game: Romero, Lindelof and Pogba. Val might get rest, agree. So Darmian? It will be nice to rest Lukaku too.

Maybe Smalling instead Rojo, too many games for him in short period of time?

why ? he has only played a small part in the last few games, I think this is an ideal game for him to start, if he is fully match fit that is.
He's spent all summer rehabilitating, he started his training long before the club got back for pre-season. Mourinho says he's got some fatigue and is getting a break for this one and will be back straight after CSKA. (By the looks of things he was given a 2 week break)

Mourinho wont change too much, he never does. He also loves the home record so, he wont want to lose no matter what. United 2-1 moscow .
Romero, bailly, lindelof, rojo, Blind, darmian, Pogba, mctominay, Mkhi, mata, Rashford.
So you say Mourinho won't change too much then you proceed to give an almost entirely changed line up.

Rest as many players as possible. We'll get a good result anyway.

I might have misheard, but I thought he said 'Zlatan is not ready'. I thought that meant he wasn't ready to start, but I didn't even realise he wasn't on the bench at Arsenal so you're probably right!

Think this is quite likely but Shaw for Blind a possibility and Mkhitaryan as you say. Pretty certain Martial didn't start away at Benfica.

Would be madness not to rest Lukaku. He has played more than any other CF in the league. Zlatan isn't ready to replace him if something happens. This game means feck all. Even the U23 couldn't lose 0:5 or something.

Thinking this right now actually. Full rotation pretty much, apart from Smalling.

Matic won't be out just because he is rested, he's injured according to Mourinho. :(

What happened? He played the whole game against Arsenal. We can't afford Matic to miss City with Pogba already suspended. Let's hope it's nothing serious then.

Yes H2H between all three teams. A mini-league gets created between United, Basel and CSKA if all three finish on 12 points and all results against Benfica are discounted.

At the moment, United’s GD is +5, Basel’s is -1 and CSKA’s is -4. Basel’s GD can’t be changed as they play against Benfica on MD6 so their result will have no impact on the mini-league. They could win 20-0 and it’d make no difference.

The game against United and CSKA does however count and so it would take a 7 goal swing for us to go out because we would have a lower GD than both Basel and CSKA. (CSKA +3, Basel -1, United -2)

Similarly, if we only lose by 4, we’d still be going through as our GD would be +1, and CSKA’s would be 0. In that case Basel, would instead go out as their GD of -1 would be less than both United and CSKA.
That's interesting. Feel a lot more confident now :) Thanks a lot for the explanation.

I don't know. He was an injury doubt ahead of the Arsenal game, maybe he aggravated something. We're quite screwed if we are without our two best midfielders against City.

We will definitely play with 4 at the back, as we need to rest someone from CBs. My pick:

    Romero
    Darmian--Lindelof--Smalling--Shaw
    Herrera--Pogba
    Mkhitaryan
    Mata--Lukaku--Rashford

    Romero
    Darmian Lindelof Rojo Shaw
    Herrera Pogba
    Mata Mkhi Rashford
    Lukaku

Subs: Pereira, Tuanzebe, Blind, McTominay, Lingard, Martial, Ibrahimovic

Rojo, Herrera and Lukaku will presumably all start the derby but I think all three could do with playing an hour or so. Playing Lukaku might be unnecessary but with Zlatan not fully fit it's not like we have too many other options up front.
