Just hope we play the way we did 2nd half against Newcastle & Chelsea. If we repeat our first half performances from those two game, Juventus will punish us big time. Need a strong, positive start from the get-go and get right into them which will get the crowd going as well. Having said that, our defence is my main major concern for this. DDG will no doubt need to be at his usual best to keep us in the game and hopefully get something from it.

Head says Juventus will win comfortably, heart says we can get a good positive result.

I get a feeling that we’ll convincingly win this one with a dominant performance.

Need old Trafford to be bouncing for this one like the old days.

I don’t think it’ll be as easy for Juve as people are making out.

    2-1 United.

    Martial and fellaini.

I don't think we will be able to keep Juve from scoring as we are leaking goals like a sieve...been what, 16 goals conceded so far in the league? Only 4 teams have conceded higher than us and they are all mostly bottom feeders.

But with Martial in some form, I'm hopeful we can at least score one and restrict Juve to one to come away with a draw. Both the Juve games are must-not-lose, anything more than that would be a bonus.

If we play with the aggressivity we showed in the 2nd half against Chelsea, then a good result is a possibility.

Juve are a better team than Chelsea though, they do not rely only on one outstanding player in attack and have more quality in defence.

That defensive line against Ronaldo, Dybala and Mandzukic :nervous:

Looking forward to this. I hope we do well with a great performance and sneak a 1-0 or 2-1 win.

Very difficult to win games when you concede 2 a match...

Maybe Ronaldo still hopes to get that record 6th Ballon d'Or. He will be up for it.

Juve remind me so much of SAF's United with their late goals and winning when playing poorly etc.

That said I think this will be a draw. Juve will be happy with that as already won in Valencia and would expect to win the return in Turin.

I am glad we have got Smalling. At least we have a legit chance of blanking Ronaldo.

    Team should be...

    ---------------De Gea---------------
    Valencia--Smalling--Lindelof--Shaw
    -------Matic------------Pogba-------
    Sanchez-------Mata-------Martial
    ---------------Lukaku---------------

Subs: Romero, Dalot, Bailly, Herrera, Fellaini, Fred, Rashford
Matic should be nowhere near the starting XI right now. He’s been poor for about 10 months now.

I think Fellaini must play. They will kill us on the crosses and set pieces with the power of Ronaldo and Mandzukic.

    DDG
    Young Smalling Bailly Shaw
    Fellaini Pogba
    Rashford Mata Martial
    Sanchez

No point starting Lukaku because he will get dominated aerially anyway. We play him to win the long ball. Id rather see Fred or Herrera next to Matic to give some tenacity. Pogba at CAM to maybe win some headers or at least control the ball in-between the lines. Martial LW. Sanchez ST. And Rashford RW. Instead of pumping a ball up the pitch to Lukaku why dont we try a long ball through the gaps behind their fullbacks and CBs. They like to push high and ther CBs aren't the fastest. Hope I dont see Lukaku on the pitch.

Actually team should be Rashford and Herrera playing instead of Lukaku and Matic and I'm not saying this because of their form( which is anyway poor) but because playing the former 2 would make more sense tactically. Lukaku won't be be able to use his physicality against Bonucci and Chilleni. Someone like Rashford making diagonal runs across them( which he's quite good at tbf) is one of the few things likely to cause them trouble. Also Herrera is better to play against someone like Pjanic, him and Alexis need to be snapping at Pjanic constantly to stop him from having time on the ball.

On the other side I actually hope Juve play Dybala in the no. 10 role as that'll mean they play 2 in the middle of the park and hence more time and space for Pogba. But I can seem them not starting with Dybala for this very reason.

    I see a pattern emerging...

    2016, Liverpool reach EL final
    2017, Man United win EL
    2018, Liverpool reach CL final
    2019...

We wont face many sides better than Juventus this season, largely because most of Europes best sides are in poor form but a win here would probably see us through the group (taking liberties that we will beat YB and Valencia) and also give everyone a boost.

They use a multiple of formations, so God knows what system they'll play, but we need to focus on what we're good at and stick to it. Preferably I'd like to see us stick to a 4231.

Don't give us much chance of a win but it's nice to have a big European game at Old Trafford again, been far too long.

    De Gea
    Valencia Smalling Lindelof Shaw
    Herrera Matic Pogba
    Mata Lukaku Martial

Subs: Romero, Bailly, Young, Fellaini, Fred, Sanchez, Rashford

Agree with those who want Lukaku dropped but I don't see it happening just yet. Not sure if Valencia's actually likely to be involved given he hasn't been seen since the Instagram fiasco, so could well be Young/Darmian instead. Herrera or Fellaini is the only other question mark - if Fellaini's fully fit I think he'll get the nod.

    Matic
    Fellaini - Pogba
    Rashford - Lukaku - Martial

    1-2 loss.

Ronaldo will score a double in the first half and we'll fight back in second one but won't manage more than 1 goal.

Feck Ronaldo, hope we batter them.
Also feck this slow/defensive start to games. Go after them. This is the biggest team we've had at Old Trafford in years.

Maybe this is where we start to turn it around?

2-1 Utd, Pogba, Lukaku , Ronaldo

0-0 is the most likely outcome. It’s Mourinho vs Allegri and a draw suits both teams

That's a very interesting and bold point. I'm not convinced that the game is going to support it though. To play Dybala against a defence that concedes a lot of goals doesn't strike me as a big disadvantage. Let's see what happens, hope you are right. Imo, Dybala is going to play. He was rested yesterday.

I'd go with a mobile midfield and forward line.

    Martial Rashford
    Mata
    Pogba Herrera
    Fellaini
    Shaw Lindelöf Smalling Young
    deGea

This. Feck Ronaldo, we don't need to give him any welcome.

Matic was great in the second half on Saturday, bossed the Chelsea midfield (granted he wasn't great before that this season)
