This is the first match-day thread that i can post but it looks like the incorrigible pessimism in these threads is in full swing again. With Pogba and Martial or not, we will feckin do them and you can quote me on that. Let's widen the gap !

Probably just the ones that get injured, whom may make late recovery. Jose mentioned some are very, very close to recover yesterday. No need to rush them. Jose mentioning Fellaini seems to indicate he planned to use him for this game, maybe.

Our top 4 CL qualification for next season is still uncertain. Doubt Jose would risk resting key players today. I thought he would rest Matic against CP and play Carrick, but nope. Him and Lukaku pretty much play almost every game.
Key match for the league and next years CL versus this years CL. With this many injuries I guess he needs to play all the key players who are fit. Can't rest them. But it would be awful to have an injury on a midfielder now, like Matic.

I saw some stats that if you get less than three resting days, your chances of winning next game is lowered because the players are not fully fit. It takes more than 3 days. And I expect todays match to be really tough.

Jose hates changing Central defense partnerships, also bailly may have been fit but not match fit, he had surgery so that would be taking time. Really need him to play as Lindelof doesnt really fill me with any confidence.
Just want to see him getting some game time.

I think he might just put Rashford and Lingard as double fullbacks like he tended to do last year and just leave the attacking up to Sanchez and Lukaku who will be the midfield and attack.
He may go 352 which hasn’t been seen in a while.
I like this idea which would give us width when attacking and a 'snuffing out' effect whilst in
defence. I also hope Bailly and Fellaini are fit and picked.

Can't say I'm optimistic about this one. Would have liked Martial in. We always seem to miss players for these games.

Have to say I find these late injuries from Pogba and his general attitude lately very disappointing, it's almost as he sulked about Sánchez arrival and wants out of the club.

Good to see Liverpool fans so cocky. Will make the inevitable implosion after Utd's win sweeter!

Yeah the most suspicious thing is that he chose a "gash" to be injured with. One of the easiest things to fake and dupe the medical staff with.

How do you guys think the crow would react to a park the bus approach at home against Liverpool?
If that happens, I suspect Mourinho will complain about the atmosphere again.

Our best midfield shite itself when pressed so our second string will even be worse. I expecting the most frustrating game ever!

Time the Sanchez to step up and show why we signed him.

I have no clue how we're going to play, all options seem so underwhelming.

How is a gash easy to fake ? the medical staff can easily see a gash. I read most players use groin injuries if they dont want to play.

At first I thought it was a bit of a media-hype, but he looked so non-chalant againt CPA - basically in first half it looked like he just got out of bed and couldn't be arsed that much if he lost the ball.

I don't get how such a player can become so unfocused.

It's going to be an horrible match. We really need Mata in this game. none of the midfield options are good against a team that press.

Hard to know what we'll go for today with whats available.

    Gone for:

    De Gea
    Valencia - Bailly - Smalling - Young
    McTominay - Matic
    Mata - Lingard - Sanchez
    Lukaku

Just on top of my head, I can't recall any big players being out for some of the other big games we've had?

May be his falling out with Mourinho is true. He might also be doing that if he is listening to his agent. May be Raiola is envious of Sancehz earning so much and his client is not.

Mata was fantastic against Palace, but seeing as I think we'll be doing most of the chasing and playing on the counter attack, I'm not sure how great he'd be.

    Not well.

I like and support Jose and I have no issue with being cautious for the first 25, 30 minutes because you know Liverpool will come out fast.

But at some point we need to attack them, I wouldn't be happy with a City at home style performance. Liverpool are not as good as City.

Raiola is such a dickweed - He's usually just interested in moving his players on (Zlatan) again and again and get a huge bag of money.

Pogba should be able to see through this. He seems very immature at the moment.

Incredible that we're still asking these questions almost 2 years into Mourinho's reign. No real identity or best 11. It's clear we have big problems but for 90 minutes we must everything aside because it's Liverpool and beating them means more than just 3 points for us.

You are very confident arent you?
Not really. Being cocky is different from being confident. Sometimes one masks the other. I just can't feel the excitement for this game. Sure if we win I'll doubtless wind you up about finishing below us but not with the same gusto. You have Sevilla to worry about and we have other games too.

Pogba has only played away to Arsenal and at home to Chelsea this season in the "big" games I think.

Aye, you're right he's missed a lot. Missed a fair few last season as well.
    Also Tottenham away.

We've played 7 big games, Pogba has played in 3.

The obvious move with Pogba's injury would be to draft in Mata but I've got a horrible feeling it'll be a McTominay Matic Fellaini midfield. Hopefully Fellaini's precarious injury will mean Mourinho decides against him.

    Would like to see:

    De Gea
    Valencia - Bailly - Jones - Young
    Herrera - Matic - Pogba
    Sanchez - Lukaku - Martial
Bailly just came back from difficult injury so certainly isn't 100% match fit. Ridiculous when you look at it.
I'd take an ugly 0-0 now. Only good thing is that it will sort of play into our tactics of sitting deep and hit them on the counter when we can.
