No Pogba or Martial, hope we just play for the 0-0 as it'll still leave us in a decent position.

Tough call, no Pogba/Herrera or Martial will really hinder us... I don't think we can play a strong enough 433 to match them up with it being Fellaini's first game back. Three at the back might be the better call for this reason - take the game to them early.
That's probably the most likely lineup, only put in Young for Shaw.

Would absolutely love it if Sanchez scored the winner tomorrow. Just want to see him get up and running and banging them in like he did for the Arsenal.

Bailly's been fit for a few weeks now. Don't know why he isn't starting games. We really need him for this game. Still think we're going to do the Dippers though. Going for a 3-1.
Jose hates changing Central defense partnerships, also bailly may have been fit but not match fit, he had surgery so that would be taking time. Really need him to play as Lindelof doesnt really fill me with any confidence.

I like the 4-2-3-1. I think it's identical to the way Spurs set up with the front 4 of eriksen, alli, son and kane. Lingard= alli. Eriksen=mata. Sanchez= son. Lukaku= Kane. But the 3 at the back is the safer option.

I’d take a draw if it was offered right now. I fecking hate saying it, but Liverpool are one of the few teams in the league that are capable of completely humiliating us.

We need to start the game with a fast tempo and just go for it. Defensively we just aren’t good enough to “park the bus”.

Can only see them overrunning our midfield with Pogba and Herrera out. If Pogba had been ruled out earlier then maybe we’d be ok, but as we’ve had no time to plan for this game without him in mind, it’s a massive ask. Liverpool will take so much confidence from this. Our midfield is very average on paper without him.

Could well see 3 at the back to deal with this, which will bolster our defence but we’re going to be super reliant on Alexis to provide attacking impetus to our game. He’s good enough to do this but would mean seeing a huge change in form. Hoping this post looks totally pathetic by the end of the game, but those 0-0 defensive predictions look a lot more attractive given our likely midfield setup for this.

and whose going to take the blame at 4-1 down when we've played right into liverpool's strength?

If we leave matic exposed because we are trying to dominate liverpool, salah and mane will destroy him.

Pogba is now confirmed out as per MEN.
I think we will lose this by a 2 goal margin now. We have no midfield at all.

As per independent Bailly and Mata will start.
Looks like it will be something like this in attack and midfield-
    -------Mctominay---Matic--------
    -mata------sanchez-------Rashford
    -----------Lukaku------------------

Rashford to do a job on the left so as to contain Salah.

Lingard ahead of Rashford with Sanchez on the left surely?

It'd be stupid if Jose decides to play Sanchez through the middle now when Martial isn't even available, after playing him on the left over Martial since he arrived.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong but Young v Salah is a disaster waiting to happen. Young, as we know, has a tendency to switch off positionally and Salah, in this vastly over-achieving purple patch he's going through, can make you pay. Shaw didn't exactly set the world alight v Palace on Monday but I'd much prefer him on the left than Young.

Plus, in attack, Young's insistence on cutting in every single time is so easy to defend against that I don't envisage Liverpool's hard-working midfield and defence being overly troubled by him - they will just double up on Young every time he gets forward, forcing him backwards, or worse, inside into a midfield trap of Henderson/Can and thus, lost possession. Shaw's love for keeping width and attacking with width would be exactly what we need going forward today, forcing the Liverpool defence to spread and then afford the likes of Sanchez, Lukaku, Rashford, Lingard and Mata (whichever combination of them starts) the chance to make penetrative runs in those gaps.

So, yeah, Ashley Young's selection today isn't exactly inspiring, no matter what way you look at it.

Rashford's pace can match salah going back.Believe me without our first choice defender, midfielder and winger this match will be about getting a result any way possible.

Weird how everyone's so skeptical when the only side to beat us at OT under Mourinho are City. I think we'll scrape a win here, hold off Liverpool for the first half an hour and we got it.

Shaw would be the worst choice there today, he is prone to balls being played inside him and switches off, usually using his pace to get back in time, Against salah he does not have pace advantage. One through ball and we are fecked.
I think mourinho's plan will be to put rashford on left and pull young in narrow to avoid letting salah through.

    What about Zlatan?
Zlatan case is weird. He have been fit (injury wise) for a long time now and he always trains with the rest. Anyhow, Mourinho have commented on it, Zlatan honestly informed him that he felt he's not yet "totally ready" to contribute, as he felt his current capabilities is not yet optimum or something like those. It's good that he have this high standard of himself. Mourinho ruled him out of his player selections.

It won't be surprising if suddenly his name appears on the team sheet, starting or bench. We have about 10+ games left till the end of this season.

I know what you mean, but why move Sanchez from his favoured position now when we've moved everyone to accommodate him until now. Surely it would have made more sense before, but with the likes of Martial and Pogba being out, Sanchez becomes our main man.

Besides, I think he's better than Rashford defensively. So is Lingard.

Sanchez, should start from the left imo and look for those balls over the top to lukaku, because in all honesty I'm not expecting much by the way of creativity from us today.

Pre-match thread is OTT negative every gameweek. I think people do it as some weird ritual as if being depressed means the team will play better. Or this forum is full of manic depressants.

Not sure what the logic is there. Pogba has been a liability defensively in these types of games, so it makes little difference rather he plays or not. Hoping for him to produce some magic is a bit of an ask too considering his current form.

I think he might just put Rashford and Lingard as double fullbacks like he tended to do last year and just leave the attacking up to Sanchez and Lukaku who will be the midfield and attack.
He may go 352 which hasn’t been seen in a while.

Happens every season before the game against Liverpool.

Never mind they've lost 10 of the last 13 times we've played them at Home, Liverpool apparently "always play out of their skin against us."

The nerves and excitement are kicking in big time now though I'll admit. Can't wait.

Is it luck? Or lessons learned by a top manager from previous seasons?
No contact injuries, no muscle injuries. Isnt just lessons learned. It is both, but still lucky to not have even a single contact injury or a muscle injury.

Fellaini would be a liability for such a big game because he hasn't played much footy lately, and I think I would have young in for Shaw for the experience and dangerous crosses, and also Rashford ahead of Sanchez for running power and danger. Sanchez is still not yet a good fit for this team although he will be from next season onwards

Extremely confident for this encounter following the comeback against Palace. We'll come out the blocks on fire, the scousers won't know hit 'em.

I'm thinking 4-1 United. Pogba, Sanchez & Lukaku ×2 the goalscorers.
I don't mean to be a downer and I'm sorry, but... When you look at our preformances under Mourinho in the big games and how we set up, how are we going to score 4 goals?
