Matic and Martial out huge blow. Lukaku and McTominay starting always puts me on a downer and Smalling all arms is a nervous one for me, would've gone Bailly.

Will stick with my 2-2, but Liverpool to win if any.

McTominay is a surprise but think Matic travelled and everything, so it will be interesting to learn if something has happened or if he was carrying an injury and was travelling as a decoy.

I’ve slated McTominay enough, but Pereira is less competent and Fred has yet to show the mindset to play for United in the league. I feel McTominay is more able a deputy for Matic than he would be for Pogba or Herrera, and whilst Matic has been fine since Ole joined, he’s probably the one player I’ve earmarked as being unexceptional. Not the biggest loss in other words.

Lingard on the bench is a shame but the rest of the line-up is about as expected

Don't understand people moaning about the line-up, not much Ole could do really. Mata for Sanchez maybe, but that's it really. The injuries have exposed how weak the squad is.

Not feeling confident but it's a derby and we will be up for it. Huge, huge game for McTominay. Could make or break him.

We can whine all we like but there's no other option than playing McTominay at CDM if Matic is injured.

Matic being out emphasises how threadbare the midfield actually is, if Pogba gets injured as well there's hardly a midfield at all, here's hoping for some Saudi investment this summer...

State of this thread:lol: . McTominay is nowhere near as bad as the hysteria queens on here would suggest. He was fine in this game last season. There is literally no other reasonable team selection to be made given the injuries. It's the best lineup we have available.

Hopefully mata is playing as a 10 rather than as a RW

Damning on Fred and Pereira that McTominay starts instead of Brazilian internationals. They're all shite tbf.

People are seriously underestimating this Matic injury. He's been class and simple in the same breath since Ole has come in.

Was thinking there’s some tactical reason I’m not seeing. I think we lose some of our offensive capability without TAA at RB.
He'll be very useful for doubling up on Pogba which is basically half your job done.

Just a reminder Mctominay played a blinder last season when we won 2.0.

He ate them up. Atleast give the fecker a chance. If he plays poorly save the rant for half time.

Mata playing central again? I hope! If he is central I think he will score or create at least one goal today :D

Interesting line up, maybe McTominay provides a bit more mobility than Matic and maybe that's why he's replacing Matic I guess.
Needs Lukaku and Mata to step up today, looks like the back five, even the FBs, will sit back and defend whereas the front five will attack with Herrera acting as the link between attack and defense

We sold Fellaini years too late.
Just because you might have made one mistake, does not mean you should go make another. I didn’t have a problem with Fellaini but I wouldn’t have complained if we just sold him in the summer.

Big game for Scotty. Hope he rises to the occasion. I can see Ole sending Herrera out with instructions to get forward less than he usually does, to minimize the risk of Scott being overwhelmed in midfield.

Herrera, Pogba, Rashford, and DDG need to have MOTM performances today. I'm more worried starting Lukaku than I am McTominay. This season's Lukaku is like we're playing a man down. It looks like any attacking substitution will need to be Sanchez or Lingard which is also worrying. Sanchez has been shit and Lingard is probably not 100% fit otherwise he'd be starting. Still feel we can manage this if we don't make silly mistakes. Defense and midfield need to play out of their skin.

Mata chasing Robertson is a bit of a worry, but he will try his best. we don’t have anybody else to do that job realistically.

McTominay is a big shout, one that will either be labeled after the game as a revelation or a travesty.

They will kill us on the counter. On paper this United team seems very easy to stop.

That squad is strong enough to win.

Try Faith in Ole, works wonders against Scouse like weaknesses and other lingering doubts.:)

Lineup looks really ropey so hopefully the occasion lifts us!

Bet they wouldn't have risked milner at right back if martial had been around. Presuming he's actually at right back

Mata over Sanchez is fine, the latter has shown time and time again that he’s not up to it right now. I trust Mata way more in a big game even if he’s a snail.

I’m pleased we’re in a position to pick McTominay instead.
