I don't see how Martial can be worse than Rooney at CF curently to be honest, but it may do him badly to throw him straight in, but adversely he seems the sort to thrive at just that scenario, perhaps could even be accused of being a bit "pogba" in that he seems to get bored when the match or opposition doesn't interest him...

Pressure on Utd being a home game? Win the game, would be a good result, expected for Utd considering what they did last season in same fixture. Draw, two points dropped at home to a direct rival. Lose....:nervous:

I have no idea how we're going play this without Coutinho. Could go all out defensive and let you keep possession while we 'attack the space'. Or go diamond with two up top (considering Ings is gagging to get on alongside Benters and Sturridge is apparently targeting this game as his comeback).
Benteke is injured right now, and apparently it's doubtful he'll be back for the United game. There were also reports yesterday that Sturridge's comeback wouldn't be until the end of October, despite other reports that he's indeed very close to a comeback.

Lovren should be dropped for Sakho, and just give Rossiter a chance instead of Coutinho :smirk:

Sturridge will have no match fitness and won't be risked from the start, nor can I imagine Ings to be, I'd imagine you'd start with teke as the lone striker in a very keep shape "park the bus" operation and nip away when you can..

Ings has a very good pre-season and was like a terrier with a tennis ball against West Ham. Probably the only one. Might be enough to get him to start and work hard down one of the sides.

RobinLFC, Rossiter is really overrated mate. He's good but nothing special and can easily get bypassed. The pace of the PL is too much for him unfortunately. I've seen enough academy games to see he's not come on leaps and bounds like we were hoping.

I don't watch academy games so I can't really comment on that, maybe his injuries have set him back somewhat? I thought he did well against Arsenal though.

Ibe has been woeful this season and Lallana is still injured, I don't really see another viable option, or we should play all of Lucas, Can, Milner and Henderson (will he be back?) behind Firmino and Benteke (if fit).

Ings sounds Kuyt esque from the way you speak of him, he was converted to the wings for you guys too mainly due to work rate, similar to Park for us.

Lots of different questions about the team going into this one. Do we play DDG (I think yes), do we play Martial? Is Rooney dropped? Is BFS?

Most of all, can we avoid the international injury minefield?

Firstly I'm hoping for our players to come back fit. Unless there are injuries I can't see Martial starting, I don't even think De Gea will start.

Well you've got me worried now.
We've given him the pet name "Wayne" to make him less fearsome. One who rolls over easily. ;) Sounds Like Benteke may not play if his injury persists, thank God he's out of the international games.

Defensively I hope Lovren picks up a niggle. What would happen if Smalling did too? Is Phil Jones ready?

Didn't it take Thierry Henry about 8 games to get his first goal for Arsenal?

If he is the next Henry let's not get on his back for not playing like Ronaldo on his debut

Don't know if Jones will be fit. Might be given the break. The likely outcome would probably be Carrick dropping back, or just maybe McNair.

The 12th seems so far away :( I hate international breaks!

Rooney will start this one. I reckon Romero will too. Then we might see De Gea and Martial, but I don't think Louis is the type of manager to drop Romero for De Gea as soon as he's available again, it's unfair on Romero (although Romero was dogshit agains Swansea so it could happen). He also won't throw a kid in at the deep end!

 I hope for our sake that Rodgers doesn't chose this game to revolutionize English football. We would be torn apart!

I'd be shocked of Martial starts and I think Carrick may be favoured over Bastian as he has experience of this fixture which is different to any other for both clubs. I'm praying De Gea is back between the sticks. Other than that I think it will be the same as started vs Swansea.

Benteke being out is a plus as Rodgers would have no doubt tried to follow the Gomis Vs Blind blueprint that caused us so much trouble against Swansea.

From my reading of reports, I think Benteke will probably be available against United. There's even talk of him possibly making the Belgium fixture even if he can't make training now?

Really? I was just going off what the Liverpool fans in this thread were saying. Well that changes things then, I don't really rate Benteke but he's more mobile than Gomis and fitter, so that will be an issue.

I read that he's expected to line out for the United game, with an outside chance he may make the Belgium fixture.
    ESPN said:
Worryingly for Reds fans, there remains an outside chance Benteke isn't fit for the United showdown, although Pearce said the problem is "minor" and it shouldn't scupper his chances of featuring at Old Trafford.

Slim pickings in the line-up game now. Our attacking options are ridiculously limited.

I hope Herrera continues at number ten.

This is a game neither manager can really afford to lose. I've seen nothing whatsoever so far this season to suggest we're any better than Liverpool, so it could take a silly mistake or a ludicrous refereeing decision to win it either way.

At present I see nothing other than a draw or a very narrow Utd win, courtesy of home advantage.

I'd love to see how Ander is with Martial at No. 9, somebody who has a bit of pace and could be played through.

Lol you're all insane if you think we're going to start our 19 year old new signing in our most heated fixture.

what are the odds that rooney gets injured on international duty after we sold everyone ? I have a bad feeling that we ll be starting with martial upfront. somehow i think that will be better for the team.

I don't think we will. That is too fiery a fixture to throw the kid into and too important. As I said I would love to see him with either Ander/Juan putting the ball through for him to run onto in the future.

Although I think we are a better team, I fear this is another game we won't score enough goals to win the match. Based on form, I think Young should come in for Memphis. The league is looking too difficult for him at the moment. His decision making most of the time has been very poor and he's getting easily frustrated imo.

 We are better all over the park. They're an absolute shambles which means for once Redknapp's been talking some sense. I'll be very surprised if we don't win by 2 clear goals especially considering their only half decent player is banned.

Better keeper (if DDG will play of course), better defense, better midfield, attack goes maybe slightly to Liverpool. But yeah we're not any better.

First goal is important as neither side is particularly known for coming back in this fixture. A few have managed a draw, but not many have turned the game totally around.

Think that LVG will need to work on concentration and discipline. Some players lose their discipline when the game is not going their way. Start playing as individuals.

How many times have we said, wonder if Rooney is going to turn up. His performances against Liverpool are usually one or two gears lower than normal, which is going to be hard at his current standard. He made some good runs against Swansea by staying on their backline, if he can do that, we will probably be comfortable, because I believe our defense will get on top of their attack and the midfields will cancel each other out (unless Liverpool PTB, then we will dominate). So just need Depay, Mata and Rooney to work some magic.

Both teams have won 2, drawn one and lost one so no, we're currently not any better than Liverpool and unless there's a marked improvement from our first 4 performances in the league we'll struggle to get past them.

We should be winning this to be fair. At home, we are still the superior team and it's practically a derby and we were fired up for all of them last year. Just hope it's not too early in the season where it's a tense derby ending in a draw.
