Both teams have won 2, drawn one and lost one so no, we're currently not any better than Liverpool and unless there's a marked improvement from our first 4 performances in the league we'll struggle to get past them.
That's quite a lazy way of seeing things. If Watford or Stoke won 2, drew one and lost one, would you say we aren't any better than them either?

I'd say even most Liverpool fans would agree that we have the stronger starting eleven.

Continho is a huge miss for them, there defense is more shakey and less organised than United's. Hopefully no injured players coming back from international duty, should have a chance then of a win.

    ---------------------------------Romero------------------------------
    Darmian-------------Smalling----------Blind-------------------Shaw
    --------------------Schneiderlin------Schweinsteiger---------------
    --------------------------------Herrera-------------------------------
    ----Mata-----------------------------------------------------Depay---
    --------------------------------Rooney-------------------------------

DDG will not make his first appearance in this game, consider the guy's head is somewhere else i wouldnt risk it just yet. Romero is doing a decent job, it would be very harsh to drop the guy. Back four wont be changed, i'm very scared about Blind being there with Benteke up top. So will be interesting if LVG will play Blind there but how i see it, i think he will with Smalling next to him. Midfield picks for itself, the Schmidfield has to be playing with Herrera in a more advanced position. Since the loan out of Januzaj, Herrera will be most likely to move in there which im happy about. His link up plays and continuous movements will give liverpools midfield and defense a horrid time. Depay will have a go at Clyne which will be interest battle and considering Clyne likes to get forward could harm them with Shaw helping out Depay. Mata on the right who will keep coming in field and link up with Herrera and Rooney. I would like to see Martial to play but wont happen with not enough training time with the squad. Could maybe make sub appearance but other than that, will not be put in a vital role. Too early. And then Rooney up front, i really hope he really start scoring those goals.

    result: 2-1 to United.

No, but then again Watford and Stoke aren't generally our direct rivals.

Having a stronger starting eleven is irrelevant. What is relevant is how that eleven performs and we've been nothing more than patchy so far, as have Liverpool.

Think this could be make or break for us.

Win and I can see us using the confidence to mount a title challenge.

Lose and I think we will fight out for a third/fourth place finish.

Hope we switch back to 4-3-3, and if we do, 2-0 to us.

    De Gea*
    Darmian Smalling Rojo Shaw
    Schweinsteiger Schneiderlin
    Mata Martial Depay
    Rooney

    Subs: Romero* 1.Carrick 2. Young 3. Fellaini

*Dependant on if DDG signs before the game.

I usually don't do line ups before the international games have played as you can't anticipate potential injuries/knocks/poor performances - but nevertheless I'm going for this line up. Martial included because LVG clearly can't decide who he trusts in the 10 role, and as Martial is naturally good there, is a second striker and has an abundance of pace, I think we could see him start there.

I also think that LVG has just been waiting for a reason to drop Blind and even though he wasn't terrible against Swansea, I think he will be sacrificed for Rojo, a natural LCB with the physical attributes to combat Benteke.

    I'm going for 2-0 United.

Will the heat be turned up on LVG if we don't get a result in this one? I can't help but think (I could be wrong) that things are getting close to a tipping point with our shit style of play, shit transfer window with very suspect decisions and our fan base being on edge.

We will win this comfortably. We're miles ahead of Liverpool and their 3 at the back crap.
when you can't score more than 1 in a league game, I'm not sure there's any "comfortably" winning games right now

Liverpool won't park the bus though (as it's up on bricks down a side street near anfield :D) and as we are at home and have more quality than them we should win this by two goals :nervous:

Basti, Memphis and our Wayne to score.

    3-1 United

The fact we have Lovren in our STARTING XI basically blows out any chance of us admitting anything different. And with Coutinho out I'm expecting a long ball game which will play into your hands. A 90 minute game which will feel like 180 and still no goals.

Thank God I'm at Chessington that day.

Would be surprised if Fellaini doesn't start this. Mata, The People's Elbow and Memphis behind Rooney. Martial off the bench.

This will be different. We looked poor last season against some of the smaller teams but we always looked much better against the big ones. I expect us to win by 2 or 3 goals.

Ref should lean towards us considering we're at home and Liverpool have benefited ridiculously from refereeing decisions already this season.

They'd be on 1 point if it wasn't for refs and linesmen bailing them out.

More confident ahead of these than Swansea, 3-1 to us (please don't make me eat this sentence).

Toughest decision is which goalie to put in...
Not sure if he'll start Martial either, would be a bit of a baptism by fire, but damn I'm excited to see what he can do and with 'pool's shaky defense could have potential for a decent start. Problem is I want to see Herrera at #10, so would have to go up front, which isn't going to happen.

Rodgers will most likely stick with his secret lover Lovren in defence instead of recalling Sahko :(, so United will win this at a canter. Skrtel is a clown as it is, so with the addition of Lovren next to him.... I dread the outcome.

    Mignolet

    Clyne - Skrtel - Lovren - Gomez

    Henderson - Can - Milner

    Firmino - Ibe

Benteke (if fit, if not then it will be ings)

Not at all. If the likes of Depay and to a lesser extent Rooney decide to turn it on then we are going to get pumped. Especially if Rodgers plays Lovren instead of Sahko and Gomez instead of Moreno. The poor kid Gomez looked scared shitless against WHU.

Liverpool are atrocious, I know it's a derby so form becomes irrelevant but come on, we have to win this.

This will be like watching a very aggressive and very dirty Championship game. High tempo and exciting but don't expect to see any great football.
Man Utd in high tempo/attacking play SHOCKER!!!
I don't think we will play high tempo, because zombie passing is what I have come to expect.

It will be scrappy - you are certainly right about that.
Bboth teams will treat this like a Cup game, so form goes out of the window and it can go either way.
Both teams are struggling to score goals BUT, this fixture (like last year), can conjure up plenty of goals.

    I will go with 2-2.

We are clearly building for the future.
We spent big on Shaw, Memphis and Martial.
We refused to spend big on Ibrahimovic and Pedro (and probably many other older players), even though we struggle to score goals.

It is clear that MUFC are thinking only about the future...not about winning right now.
LVG is safe, no matter what happens this year as his vision is what we are spending tonnes of money on.
We simply can't afford to bring in another manager who may bring in his own style of player (likely older), with whom we can challenge for the title, immediately.

The only player who sticks out is Rooney - why keep such an old player, who is clearly past his best?

Probably as a fan pleaser and you need to have some leadership and club loyalty in the side. Other than him smalling is our only other long serving player normally in the starting 11...

Not a fan of the football that LVG has us playing, but this game is the one where you have to win by any legal means possible..we'll worry about tempo and the selections for the following week..Remember that even during the Moyes years, that 3-0 defeat hurt like hell even though our season was all over by then.

You seriously just need to shut the feck up and have a word with yourself after the shite you've spewed in the match thread and now this. You realize they got hammered 3-0 at home to West ham yesterday? fecks sake.

I love this fixture because it's the best in football. It doesn't matter how shit we or they are. I also hate it because form goes out of the window and anything can happen. We still need revenge for that 1-4.

Lets rock bottom Liverpool to another defeat at O.T last like year.
Lets lay the smack down on them and make them shove their champions league trophies up their arse. Bunch of jabronies that cry YAWN all the fecking time.

On a serious note, united win brenda will be under pressure this early in he season and another loss and he could be a goner, united lose, the knives will be out for Lvg. I think people will start showing resentment after him failing to address the problems in transfer market and starting season short upfront combined with boring football. EVen this early in the season this will be a crucial fixture. City have raced ahead and staying close to them is essential for us. The game will be tough, no matter who they have in their team as they always raise their game against us. Hopefully we win.

Massive game yes..LVG had a great record against the big clubs last season, and that was one of his saving graces..losing against Pool is a no no, especially at home..Its their UCL final, we need to be up for it from the first minute..Ill take a deflection of Fellaini's 'fro to seal a last gasp win if need be.

Don't expect this match to matter.

It's a long season, which is why a draw would be good enough - since 4th is the target.

But i naturally expect a win.

well we got the double last year. 3-0 at OT and 2-1 and anfield where we completely dominated them for the entire half. Best we've been at anfield for a while now.

this match always matters and we'll beat them.

Liverpool are shite atm, we just have issues going forward and they aren't the best defenders.
