Really hope we can get something from this tomorrow. Would help out top 4 hopes but also make the title race interesting for once.

Really should be going Ole style and countering, given Rashford/Hojlund/Martial are all fast and it's what we and a lot of other teams have had the most success with against City. Won't happen though sadly.

If we can keep our heads, we can win this. City has shown some serious chinks in their armor this season, the blueprint to beat them has been drawn up. We just need players like Bruno to play more simply, and for players like Højlund to give them a new problem to worry about that we haven't managed in the past few meetings. Mount should definitely play. I'd even find a way to get Hannibal in because he's fearless, and this game will be won or lost in the dressing room. We need the players who were desperate to play for United to step up. Part timers need not apply.

    United 2, FC115 1.

Martial hasn't been fast in forever. Unfortunately his body just let him down

This game will be over after 20 mins.

We'll have a strong start, force ederson into a save, but city will score in the 5th and 18th min, then will control the game from then on. All depends on their mood after that, if they want they could score another 3 or 4, or they might just bunker down and rest their energy levels.
Sounds a bit like the game under Ole in 2021

    I don't think so.

City aren't playing the sort of free flowing football people like to think they do. I think they can be shut down quite effectively without KDB and Gundogan in midfield. There's a huge drop off from them to what they have now.

    Utd can win this.

I am filled with terror, frankly. Hope we can keep it down to 0-2, but it’s probably unlikely.

We can beat these with the players we have at our disposal. It's just whether Ten Hag can get a tune out of the players, or the players can figure something out themselves.

City haven't been great by their standards so far, and they've only run up a sore once so far against Fulham. Lost to Wolves and Newcastle. It tells you a lot that we're expecting a thrashing. If it is a thrashing then it will be an embarrassment really. At the very least it should be a close game.

Once upon a time I would have been, but in recent times fear and/or doubt has turned into almost acceptance. And even worse, when we do suffer the inevitable hammering in these big games I feel nothing but contempt for this group of players and those running the club and feel it's exactly what they deserve. My love of this club and desire to see it be a club I can be proud of again is the only thing keeping me from completely giving up on football tbh. Think a lot of supporters I know (of the same age bracket) feel the same

I hope ETH rewards players with starts based on form, not reputation.

I can totally understand your stance on this. I guess I’m just an irrational human who clings to hope. A constant struggle in the face of defeat.

Midfield needs energy, which, this season, should imply Hannibal, I'd love to see it, but it'll be casemiro Amrabat Fernandes in MF
& Antony and rashford will start wide. So frustrating, this hasn't worked against "lesser" teams won't even dent man city.

I'd think ETH is a bit of a divvy if he goes with Hannibal after not playing much recently/ this season. He should have kept him going, instead he's been back out in the cold.

No doubt he'd still play his heart out if given the chance. But as a manager you can't expect to throw him into a game like this, with so little game time under his belt, and expect a performance.

    I'd go 352 / 532 for this one.

    ————————Onana
    ——Lindelof—Maguire—Varane
    Dalot—Casemiro—Amrabat—Reguillon
    ————————Bruno

Was Pep drunk in that presser or he was calculatingly make United/City irrelevant.

Very confusing answers to the rivalry questions.

Hoping for at least a point but hard not to see a comfortable Man City win as we’ve been playing woefully this season.

    Onana

    Dalot - Varane - Maguire - Reguilon

    Amrabat - Eriksen

    Antony - B.Fernandes - Rashford

    Højlund

Bayindir, Lindelof, Evans, McTominay, Hannibal Mejbri, Mount, Pellistri, Martial, Garnacho

Manchester United 1-1 Manchester City (more in hope than expectation)

Doesn't Ole have the best record against Pep of any United manager including Fergie? Like a 50% unbeaten ie win or draw.

It would be a good start if he could actually touch the ball... passing to one of his teammates is, however, asking too much.Having a shot on target is bit like asking a vampire to sunbathe

People saying "City haven't been great this season" etc., are surely aware that this is just the way they do things now. They start off in third gear so that it looks less suspicious. Then they turn up the gears later in the season... But they will also be well up for this one because it's us. They can afford to put 5 or 6 past us and then go back to cruise control after that.

I’m actually excited about the game today, not in a “I’m totally disconnected from the fact that we should really probably lose based on form and how much better city are then us” but just a general “in football anything can happen and it’s games like today that can define a season as much in a positive as negative way”.

Really and truly , I don’t believe our issues this season have been coaching as much as they have been a multi layered amount of issues that have impacted all aspects of the squad. I think a solid performance or a win today could reshape the season entirely.

I feel it’s not too late for ETH and that this is one of those junctures where his tenure could drastically shift (positively or negatively). I don’t believe we have seen the best of this team or ETH for all the other issues have made that impossible for either to put on a proper show.

Unfortunately, the margins for error these days are massive. You need only look at Liverpools collapse last season to see that even quality managers/squads can capitulate if the wrong conditions exist. The only difference is that klopp has credit in the bank and ETH does not. That’s it, otherwise we have the same fatigue excuse this season as Klopp could use (and was given a pass) last season.

Klopp didn’t have owner issues, Squad management issues and the same sort of problems ETH is having to navigate.

For me; I’m really rooting for ETH to be able to navigate this difficult period. I see replacing him as a step backwards , in spite of all the poor football on show.

You just made me watch it on YouTube and all he said was that the dippers had been his main rival while he’s been in England, though he did give Oli a mention for his tilt one year.
I couldn’t see any disrespect in that because it’s unarguably true.

The winding up in all this is just the journalists asking questions designed to draw answers that can be twisted to add spice to an otherwise pretty bland recipe.

Staying with the food theme; Jamie ‘fat lad‘ Oliver would say “answers to rivalry questions twisted out of shape to make barely related back page headlines & an impending Derby’s are best mates”.

Hoping beyond hope we can give them a game. we seriously need to raise our performance levels to stay in it.
None of us will be surprised if we are 2-0 down 20 minutes in though.
Still looking forward to it… will either be buzzing or depressed by tea time.

Mejbri and mount with amrabat for legs in the middle. Eriksen is our best midfielder but he’ll be bypassed today. Wont have all the possession where he is most effective.

Of course people are aware. We've watched Utd do that for years under Fergie. But City aren't really creating many clear scoring opportunities, so this idea that they are going to roll into OT today and absolutely batter in 5 or 6 goals doesn't make sense to me.

The Utd players should absolutely be up for this today. They should be going for City here, 3 pts between the teams it they win. If you can't raise your game to play City at home you may as well just quit playing football.

Honest question but what would this look like?

Rashford has been shit, garnacho has been shit. Antony has worked hard but not done much, pellistri has not looked good in his limited minutes. Bruno is out of form for United, Mount has been alright, McTominay has scored a few goals but does nothing outside of that. Eriksen has had a few good cameos but we all know he isn't physically able to play from the start vs City. Amrabat was just subbed at half, casemiro probably won't be ready to start but even so, has been out of form. Mainoo just returning from injury might make the bench and will need to actually integrate to the first team before he's a real option in games like this.

Our back 4 is "whoever is fit". In fact our only 2 in form players in our squad are probably Dalot and Maguire. Reguilon is hopefully fit, and then I have low confidence in whoever is Maguire's partner (and low confidence in Maguire vs City). Hojlund is playing well too, without scoring much, but he's an automatic choice.

I get the whole "play in form players", but that doesn't exist for us.

    This thread is am embarrassment.
"Supporters" trembling and bowing to the mighty City.
Too many football spectators (I'm not saying fans, because nothing suggests you are fans) became know-it-alls.

It's football. Anything can change with a kick of the ball. Nothing is granted, nothing is certain.
Support your team and hope for the best.

Don't be such a pathetic "oh no they'll smash us" crowd.

We are the fecking Manchester United for fecks sake!

Let's go and get a great result
I disagree. I think it's quite refreshing to see a fan base be realistic and admit how shit their team is. Nothing more cringe than fans deluding themselves, it's incredibly Liverpool before Klopp when they tried to convince us the likes of Baros and Garcia were world class.

We're awful and will 99% get battered by City today. You watch because you hope for the 1% miracle.

    Dead right.

People just preparing themselves by doing the whole self fulfilling prophecy thing.

If you say and think you're going to get smashed it's easier to accept if it does happen and in some ways you'll be happy that you were right.

I pretty much go into every game expecting and anticipating a win and no matter what I am always pissed if it doesn't materialise.

Need a repeat of last year at home. We was the better team. Kept Haaland quiet and created the most chances.

Hopefully a repeat of the Scousers home game last season where we went in expecting a heavy defeat and the players went into battle mode.

Highly doubt it, but you never know.

We have the players to be able to at least get a draw out of this.
The question is whether we will play with the intensity and teamwork and passion.
But for me the most important thing is not to concede first.
