The likes of Paredes and Verratti being available for them is worrying. Especially the latter.

Sounds like everyone questionable is fit. Going to go with:
    De Gea
    Wan Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Telles
    Van de Beek Fred
    Rashford Bruno Martial
    Cavani
Possibility that McTominay goes in. But they've been vulnerable this season, and we're at home and its our chance to qualify without caring about the result in Germany next week.

    Cavani

    Martial------------Bruno--------Rashford

    Fred McTominay

    Williams Maguire Lindelöf AWB

    Henderson

Dare we try Mengi if Lindelöf needs a rest? TFM will probably be ahead of him in the queue.

1-1 draw. Conservative approach. Cavani goal.

I am sure the management and players realise this... if we don't go all out to win it means lots more pressure. We can put it to bed tonight.

But United do historically like doing things the hard way, so a loss would definitely not surprise me.
Eeer, don't know how to tell you nicely...

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has outlined the situation regarding his squad ahead of Wednesday's Champions League tie with Paris Saint-Germain.
There are several fitness concerns for the Reds heading into a game where a point would guarantee qualification for the knock-out stage of the competition, due to our victory in the French capital that would ensure a better head-to-head record if the sides finish level on points.

David De Gea has trained and should be available, despite picking up a knock at Southampton that caused him to miss the second half, with Dean Henderson coming on for his Premier League debut for the club.
There is more good news regarding Anthony Martial after Ole confirmed the striker is over the illness that kept him out of the St Mary's game. Alex Telles should also be fine, after being withdrawn, and Paul Pogba as well, but Luke Shaw is still a doubt even though he has returned to training.

“You know it's going to be a challenge every time you have the Champions League nights to keep players away,” he told us. “Because they all want to be fit [to play] and everyone has been on the training pitch today. We're looking good. I think all of them are champing at the bit. David trained well today, as did the rest of the group. It was a good session.
“Anthony got through the session and felt okay, so he's also available for selection.

“Luke is probably the biggest doubt but the rest of them are holding their hands up saying: 'I'm ready'. Luke isn't too far away so let's see what we do with him for tomorrow.”

Matic has filled in at CB for us before, I wonder if thats a tinker that can be considered if we pursue with 3 at the back. Its quite slow though: Matic-Maguire-Lindelof

Scott + Fred will need to be buzzing around them but it would be a system that has worked before.

Even if PSG lose tomorrow, they can still qualify - unless you're saying it's completely out of the question that we'll beat Leipzig ;)
You're right. If PSG lose tomorrow and beat Istanbul next week, they need us to beat Leipzig to go through on goal difference. It'll be no longer in their hands though, and they know if we win tomorrow we might rest players against Leipzig given we'll be top of the table regardless (unless Leipzig beats us by more than 5 goals).

I refuse to play 3 at the back without at least one of Tuanzebe or Shaw alongside Maguire & Lindelof. TFM & Bailly are dodgy option.

Just play 4231. Lindelof & Maguire protected with 2 work horse double pivot. Unless if Ole is pulling another master class with different formation & tactic again but TFM & Bailly are not the answer.

Good job you're not in the squad then.

Two of them smiling now instead of one? I can't deal with this positivity

Forget about resting players, none would like to sit out this kind of match. And of course we want to win so Ole will play his best available XI I think. That means

    Henderson
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Telles
    Fred VDB
    Bruno
    Rashford Cavani Martial

    But I'm worry about Saturday.

I think we should play defensively and play two up front. James and Rashford.
Why? To get at their defense early on with pace. Then around the 60 mins mark bring on Martial and Cavani and take off a midfield player( not Fred) and put in fresh legs.

Now that would be bad. Two up top is fine in a defensive 3-5-2 if that’s what you want us to play, although I want an attacking 4-2-3-1, but dropping an inform Cavani for James would be stupid. I mean, yeah James is fast, but he won’t even touch the ball. How about Cavani holding it up and letting Rashford and Bruno play off him?

Cavani has to play as he’s likely to be banned for 3 games in the PL

Deffinitely need to play for the win and the top spot in the group in order to avoid the likes of Barca or Bayern later. Since we cannot cannot play against English sides finishing second would leave us in pretty uncomfortable position to get an easier opponent.

Anyone know if Shaw is fit to play? He could come in as a LCB with Maguire and Lindelof in a back 3. Then have Telles and AWB play as wing backs in a 3-4-1-2. We’ll definitely sit back and hit them on the counter. Would love the win but a draw is just fine.

It's a big blow having both Tuanzebe and Shaw injured.

Ole will be desperate for Shaw to be fit for this so he can play a back 5.

Telles looks reasonably strong and is an experienced defender. If we want to play a back 5 and Shaw and Tuanzebe are both out, could Telles play LCB and Williams LWB?

No, he's not good enough defensively for that plus you'd lose all the attacking impetus he brings to our play. Also whenever we played Shaw and Williams together last season, it was always Williams who was trusted as the defensive one with Shaw as the furthest forward.

I think Telles is better going forward than defending though.

I'm not sure you'd want him in a back three.
Well this was his reputation, and he does look a more natural attacker than Shaw certainly. But I haven't actually seen any evidence of the gung-ho, borderline-wingback we were told to expect. Looks a very balanced FB by modern standards who defends well and has a pretty sensible average position on the pitch too. I reckon with his age and good strength he could probably do a shift there as a one-off. Would put pressure on Maguire to dominate in the air, I'll grant you.

Please no Bailly against PSG. We suffered a lot from it last time around. If we have to play 3 at the back, play McTominay there.

I'd personally prefer to see us play 4-3-1-2 with Fred, VDB and McTominay in the middle with Cavani and Rashford either side of Bruno. It could easily change into a fluid 3-5-2 also.

That's not the case. When we used them together last season it was always Shaw moving into a three man central defence with Williams playing as a wingback.

If we control their attackers, there is no way we won't score against their poor defence.

I'd want Barca, defo not Bayern

Do we have enough defenders for 5-3-2 formation? Worked last time against PSG but with Axel out, not sure if we go for 5 at the back

I keep having this nagging feeling we'll play TFM in there taking the third defensive spot that Shaw or Tuanzebe normally plays. Logically I don't see it happening as Bailly is also fit and it's more likely we'll play him if we go that way, but that nagging feeling won't go away.

Big pressure on Ole for this one. Too negative and think we will lose. To me it doesn’t look like we have the players for a 5 at the back so I think I’d want him to try and take the game to PSG a little more. We can certainly hurt them.

Agree with you as Verratti is the only PSG player able to link up the play of them. Paredes and Herrera/Marquinhos are only there to grant small balance of their team (which is oftenly split in 2).

A small hope for us is that Verratti only has 60 min, maximum in his legs, so if we can manage to press him from the start and force him to run, he will not have a long impact on the game.

I am also worried on Marquinhos, who will probably plays behind with Kimpembe. He's the leader of this team and provides great abilities and calm.

But the key would be to draw or win after the 60 mins mark, then they will not be able to run anymore and we will have the edge

I think that 532 suits naturally this team in big games. But with Tuanzebe suspended, who can play in defense ? Hopefully Mc Tominay plays in midfield as we will need his work rate to cut Neymar and Verratti's runs and passes.

But be careful as we are never away from seeing Bailly's ghost too :D

I watched McTominay a lot in that position for Scotland and although he was solid for the most part, when he came up against Manor Solomon when we played Israel who is a very pacey player he turned Scott inside out so i would dread to see what Mbappe would do to him, Axel was brilliant mostly due to his pace and how effective he is at using his strength, Scott's strengths back there is his clearing ability and bringing the ball out from the back, as scary as it sounds I think Bailly might be a better fit for that role for the night but it's Bailly so you never know what you will get.
