Hard lineup to predict, I expect something like the above, 6 changes from the team that started Sunday, but looks very strong. Gives minutes to Casemiro and Antony to ready them for the weekend, plus keeps the others ticking over.
Wouldn't be surprised if Martinez is rested after coming off this weekend

Why is no one talking about Rashford hamstring injury. He will be out for at least 3 weeks. Mark my words!

I'd change the entire back four for this game. Give the first-teamers a rest. And Eriksen definitely needs a rest. And who knows - maybe Donny will get a game.

This is probably reasonable, except I think Elanga will be in over Rashford. And possibly resting Bruno. But everything else I think is accurate based on what I’ve seen.
It's our first EL game so I don't know how ETH will treat it as far as respect of the opposition. We could see Donny in for Bruno and as you said Elanga for Rashford. Any word on Martial's status? Could be fit enough to be used as a late sub for Ronaldo. I think we'll see Varane/Maguire or Lindelof/Maguire if Lindelof is fit. No idea on his status either.

Don’t be surprised to see us not perform as well in this game. Apparently Maguire, and Shaw are gonna be recalled to give other players a rest. The first 11 that’s performing well in the league have had time to work together so will understand the system a lot more.

Eriksen and Varane need a rest. But Maguire needs an extended period out. Martinez and Lindelof at center back.

It's still very strong side, while giving minutes to Lindelof, Maguire, Casemiro, Fred, Antony and Ronaldo; Sancho hasn't been very fit, so he needs more minutes too. Dalot, Malacia, Bruno and Sancho to come off in the second half. I think it's too soon for Dubravka, maybe he can play next Thursday. Ronaldo will have chances to score.

    Casemiro Fred
    Elanga Bruno Rashford
    Ronaldo

Have to rest quite a few on Thursday. Hope we change the whole back 5, however hideous that defence is.

Martinez was hobbling at the end, Malacia and Dalot have put in an insane amount of work for the last 3 games. Varane also needs to be kept on ice for the Prem.

Casemiro should get his first start, probably alongside Fred.

Agree with most of this but would like to see Garnacho

Ajax fans, what was ten Hag like during congested periods of your season and the run of games around European competition? Did he rotate, and if yes, to what degree?

Going to be a huge challenge next month. Nine fixtures?! (and a lot tough/European games in there).

Hasnt made many bad decisions to date, hopefully carries on

It'll be Antony with Elanga on the left so Antony can build fitness. Donny if fit will start too but probably Bruno.

Dubravka and Garnacho would be better

Somehow Zidane is not in the selection, whereas Amad is still in @Niall

I think Diogo and Antony will play so they can start building an understanding. I think Elenga will start left with Garnacho coming on at some point

    Dubravka
    Diogo Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    Casemiro (Savage)
    Fred vd Beek (Iqbal)
    Antony Ronaldo Elenga (Garnacho)

I looked at Ajax's schedule from last season to see if they had a similair run of games to get an idea of ETH's rotation. This was 3 games in 7 days and 1 was a CL match and they were 4 games into their season.

    1st match CL
Pasveer, Blind, Martinez, Timber, Mazraoui, Alvarez, Gravenbach, Berghuis, Tadic, Antony, Haller

    2nd match
Pasveer, Tagliafico(Blind came on at '60), Martinez, Timber, Mazraoui, Alavrez, Gravenbach, Berghuis, Tadic, Neres, Haller
(Antony was on the bench but wasn't used)

    3rd match
Pasveer, Blind, Martinez, Schuurs, Mazraoui, Alvarez, Gravenbach, Berghuis, Tadic, Antony, Haller
    (Timber was unfit)

    So not much rotating.

I'm hoping for a big scoreline here but they're no pushovers and besides, Spanish teams always seem to be our kryptonite so wouldn't be surprised if we lost.

Coming first doesn't really matter in Europa so as long as we qualify for the knockouts its ok.

    Dalot Maguire Lindelof Shaw

    Casemiro Fred

    Bruno

    Antony Ronaldo Elanga

Donny to start instead of Bruno if he's fit... Garnacho and Iqbal off the bench hopefully.

    I’d go with:

    DDG

    Dalot
    Maguire
    Martinez (if fit)
    Shaw

    Casemiro
    Fred

    Antony
    Bruno
    Sancho

    Ronaldo

Sociedad are a Spanish team, good enough to reach Europe from La Liga. We don't want to play our second string against this lot. Lose this and our mentality monsters will need to be highly motivated against the weaker sides in our group, which from previous years' experience, doesn't seem to come too easy for them. Strong squad, rotate a few players who have featured in all the matches, rest can still play. We're six games into the season, should be fit enough. Can't imagine it's 2008 and we expect Fergie to rest the entire starting eleven. Need to win this shite cup.

That teams more than good enough to win and it gives players minutes and our starters a rest

Not going to predict the score but it's so nice not to be dreading watching United play (let's hope that doesn't jinx things). Can't see ETH making wholesale changes (a few possibly, four or five at most I'd guess) because I'd like to think he is targeting this trophy and Sociedad can't be underestimated even though they'v had a very ordinary start to their season

He didnt rotate much, especially not in Europa.. But that was ofcourse because we were in the Champions League and we needed to be top every CL game.. He rotated a bit in the Eredivisie, but not much. What he often did though was in our Cup games rotate everyone..

I therefore see him going for the below option ór rotating no-one rather than him rotating 4 or 5 players..

    Dubravka
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Malacia
    Casemiro Fred
    Elanga Donny Garnacho
    Ronald

But yeah we'll see.. I could be way off haha

Ten Hag and rotating
Ten Hag only has like 11 players he trust and that number grows a bit when someone get injured and the replacement plays well. Only when he has more than 11 players he'll sub between those. At Ajax he always made the same subs, every match. So not even a little rotation

Thanks to you and the others who provided info.

So do you think he'll continue with this approach at United, or that he'll respect the intense demands of the calender?

Wouldn't be surprised if Martinez is rested after coming off this weekend
I think coming off was his rest. And the little minutes for Maguire were so he can have some game time before playing a full game this Thursday.
I think Varane will be rested, or at least I hope so. He's injury prone and I hope he's well managed.

Up top I expect to see Antony and Ronaldo starting, Casemiro and Fred also.
For the rest I can't be sure.

    I'd like to see this:
    DDG

    AWB
    Lindelof
    Maguire
    Shaw

    Casemiro
    Fred
    Bruno

    Antony
    Ronaldo
    Garnacho

I think there's very little chance Garnacho starts over Elanga though. DDG probably won't play too.

I’m pretty sure it matters a lot. As i understand it getting first in groups means you skip a round. The runners up in groups have to play an extra game against the third places in the CL groups. So not only do you enter later in the knockout phase, but you also get to play the last game at home. So you get advantages until you reach the quarter finals.

Correct me if i’m wrong, but getting first in groups is huge.

With the schedule as it is, momentum as it is and as such ETH possibly wanting to keep going with the continuity, combined with the need to get match fitness into a lot of players, I expect to see a heavily rotated team.

    Dubravka
AWB Maguire Martinez / Lindelof (fit?) Shaw
    Casemiro Fred
    Antony Donny Elanga
    Ronaldo
