I'd be shocked if he doesn't play a strong team. There's no point rotating in the first few Europa games and racking up poor results and a scramble in the last few. Play a strong team for the first three, put ourselves in a good position and then rotate.

ETH certainly wont mix too much, its a competition in he'll want to do good and he'll want to keep the momentum. Certainly some changes will be made to keep the team fresh but I don't expect a whole new team compared to Saturday nor would that be wise.

I agree. I've been very happy with the way Den Haag is leading and managing our team.
Yep the rotter damned well worked miracles. In other news, this feels like a good opportunity to try a Fred/Casemiro MF.

I would be gutted if I show up to Old Trafford and that's the line up.

Would be very surprised if we make 11 changes. Usually fans want the for Europa group stage but only time i remember was when we sent u21 for last group game.

it's a tricky balance as you want to keep the winning streak going, build that mentality etc - but at the same time it's 2 days until we play Palace away on Sunday.

They're a quick physical side and we will need fresh legs. Is it really fair to ask Dalot to play 90 tonight and then against Zaha 2 days later?

We will need to start getting some rotation in at some point.

Perfect opportunity to rest players and build up the fitness of a few of the lads. Hopefully Ten Hag won't waste it otherwise I can see a few of our first teamers getting burnt out quickly.

I agree. That's what i said, us fans want 11 changes but things rarely happenb like that. Would love to see entire new team plus Antony.

Too much rotation is not good as we need to keep our winning momentum, and there chance we could win the trophy too. I’d say change half the team is good enough.

Dubravka in goal, he needs to play.
If Shaw is unavailable, then Malacia would almost certainly play, Varane and Martinez should be rested, Varane because he has had some injury problems in the past, and Martinez because he appeared to get a muscle problem towards the end of the Arsenal game, and also getting up to speed with the physical demands of the Premier League. AWB needs to play to see if the instructions and coaching he almost certainly is getting, can be translated to the pitch. That would give us AWB, Lindelof, Maguire and Malacia as a back four.
Casemiro should come in, firstly to give him game time, and secondly to hold that position in front of two players who have not featured a great deal lately, so probably need to get up to speed, mind you so does Casemiro, but at least this is against a Spanish team, who he will know well.
Fred also needs game time, so he would slot in for McTominay.
The third midfield spot, if VDB is out, could go to Igbal. He certainly looked the part in pre season, so could this be his opportunity?
It looks like Ronaldo will start, so it's possible that Antony could start on the right, and Elanga on the left, but I would certainly give Garnacho a run out there.
I don't think Pellestri is fit yet, else he may have had a run out from the bench.
Heaton, Dalot, Martinez, McTominay, Savage, Garnacho/Elanga, Rashford, Sancho, McNeill all on the bench.

If we're taking this competition seriously then we need to play a strong side tonight. You'd imagine that the 2 games against Sociedad will decide who wins the group and that's crucial with 2nd place going to an extra play-off game.

Resting Varane and Martinez is sensible, Casemiro and Ronaldo should also start but apart from those 4 changes I'd stick with the same side.

Is it possible to add Vitek, Fredricson, Mainoo, Iqbal and McNeill to the selection options @Niall ? They were all added to the B list for Europa League and may feature today. Also need to remove Amad.

These have a good bit of pace up front and down the wings. Bissaka will be fine, Shaw too once he has the right attitude, but we might need to sit back if we're starting Maguire and Lindelof.

These had a good draw with Atlético at the weekend so we shouldn't underestimate them.

Casemiro Fred and Donny should win the midfield battle and Sancho Ronaldo and Antony should create enough.

Win the game and then rest Sancho and Antony for Sunday

Amad removed and Iqbal added. I'll wait and see if any of those other players feature in the lineup tonight before adding them.

First European fixture of the season you rarely ever see a full squad rotated, especially at home against the strongest opponents in the group. I think we'll see 3/4 changes tops. I think we'll see:

    De Gea

    Shaw (if fit)
    Martinez
    Varane
    Dalot

    Casemiro
    Eriksen
    Bruno

    Antony
    Ronaldo
    Rashford

Would expect rest in the form of early-ish subs for those who have accumulated a lot of minutes. Eriksen, Rashford, Dalot -> Fred, Sancho, AWB.

This second team everyone is saying is too weak is basically the side that finished 2nd and got to the final except it has Ronaldo instead of Martial and Casemiro instead of Mctominay. It’s not too fecking weak at all.

Hoping we don't see too many changes. This is one of those games where, if you win, the group is pretty straightforward thereafter, so going fairly strong is a good idea. Would like to see Casemiro and Fred in the middle. Maybe one of Shaw or Maguire to get a start. Up front, perhaps a chance for Ronaldo?

Same point total and goal difference would have seen us to 4th last season, and 3rd in 2019-20 and 2018-19.

So it not really this great defense of those teams.

I wouldn’t make too many changes for this as we always find it tough against Spanish opposition. Rest a few key players but don’t make wholesale changes.

Would love to see Donny getting a start.

Otherwise, I don't see the point in keeping him. He's not a super sub, he needs a run of games or a new team.

To be fair, I don't think it's necessarily about the players past achievements, so much as them just not being accustomed to what the manager wants from the team.

4th last season with our second team sounds pretty good?

Fantastic point. Where would the 79 points the treble winners got have finished last year? Almost like just plucking one points total from the context of the season it was done is total bollocks. You may not like it but us finishing 2nd happened. I saw it happen.

Our second team is more the good enough to win a Europa league group game at home. It’s also important to get vital fitness and understanding of ETH’s system into these players so they can compete for future starting roles - and it also keeps everyone feeling involved thinking they’re being given a chance to show what they can do keeping morale high. It’s a squad game. It will be used.

Then there is a risk we will have a squad with 11 worn out players and the rest of the players are demotivated and match unfit.
