Sevilla Fútbol Club, also known as S.A.D. or Sevilla (and nicknamed Sevillistas, Los Rojiblancos (The White and Reds), Los Hispalenses (from Hispalis, Seville's ancient name) or El Grande de Andalucía (The Greats of Andalusia)), is a Spanish professional football club based in Sevilla, capital and largest city of the autonomous community of Andalusia. The practice of football was introduced in Seville at the end of the 19th century by the large British expatriate population in the city, composed by owners or managers of manufacturing companies based in the capital of Andalusia. Sevilla Fútbol Club was founded on 25 January 1890 as Sevilla Foot-ball Club (in English). With that foundation date, Sevilla Fútbol Club can boast of being one of the two oldest football clubs in Spain. It shares that honor with another Andalusian club, Recreativo de Huelva. Sevilla and Recreativo also made their mark in history by playing the first official football match in Spain; Sevilla came out victorious, defeating their oldest rivals by 2-0.

During its first couple of decades, Sevilla FC had to settle for being the best football club in its region. Out of the nineteen Championships of Andalusia played in the period from 1917 to 1940, Sevilla won sixteen, while placing runners-up in the remaining three. They further added to their trophy collection by winning two Copa del Reys in 1935 and 1939. As it turned out, the two cups were a harbinger of things to come. In 1946, Sevilla won its only La Liga to date, defeating the favored Barcelona by a single point. Another Copa del Rey in 1948 marked the end of their conquests for a long time; even though the club managed to stay near the top of Spanish football for a while yet, a financial crisis in the 70s saw them being relegated to the Segunda Division on numerous occasions during the next three decades.

The new century brought some welcome changes to the club, most notably with Juande Ramos' appointment as head coach. Under his leadership, Sevilla returned to the football map by winning two consecutive UEFA Cups in 2006 and 2007. The latter season also saw them win the Copa del Rey, a feat they repeated in 2010. After being forced to sell their best players due to another financial crisis, Sevilla shocked everyone by winning three UEFA Europa Leagues in 2014 2015 and 2016. As the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Europa League are considered the same tournament, these latest triumphs saw Sevilla become the most successful club in the history of the competition. Sevilla's biggest rivals are cross-town club clubs Real Betis - with matches between the two termed the Sevilla derby. Sevilla play home games at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, which contains a singular legend: the Spanish national team has never lost a game against an international team in this stadium.

    Assuming Rashford won't be available:

    De Gea

    Wan-Bissaka Varane Martinez Shaw
    Casemiro Bruno
    Antony Sabitzer Sancho
    Martial
Hopefully get a couple of goals and give Eriksen half an hour possibly with an eye to starting him against Forest if all goes well.

I’ve seen enough in the last two matches to consider continuing without Casemiro at home against non-elite teams. He probably comes back in, but we do have an alternative now.

Eriksen has to start especially if Casemiro is playing. They complement each other so well

Gutted about Rashford. First time we’ll be tested this season how we do without him.

Eriksen must start. Take him off after an hour. Casimero cannot do it alone in that midfield. Plus McT, we will have a solid midfield with all 3 to take turns make forward run into the box.

They're 5 points off the relegation zone in Spain and just drew 2-2 with Celta Vigo. We should be beating this lot, even without Rashford.

Is Shaw going to be available? If so, I'd probably go with this, too, although I have a feeling Weghorst may start, as I feel ten Hag will want to ease Martial back in.

We could start Bruno, Fred and Casemiro, yet still have Eriksen, Sabitzer and McTominay on the bench. We have an actual midfield! The best we have been stocked since Hargreaves and Anderson starting never being available.

Hope Eriksen and Martial start obviously but I doubt either will. Suspect it'll be Weghorst and we'll put Casemiro alongside Bruno.

With no Rashford, the formation has to change IMO. The goals aren't there again so we need to be tougher to get past and we do that by packing midfield. To that end, I'd go 4-3-1-2.

    DDG

    Dalot/AWB
    Varane
    Martinez
    Malacia/Shaw (if fit)

    Casemiro
    Eriksen
    Bruno

    Sabitzer

    Antony
    Martial.

As long as there's no Weghorst, there is hope.

On Friday Ten Hag said there was a good chance he'd be available for Everton so I assume so.
Great stuff! Was fearing the worst when he was holding his hamstring. Hopefully, its the same with Rashford, although I wouldn't risk him in this game anyway.

Too soon for Martial to start IMO... I'd literally use him as a sub every game until the Brighton match. If he can only play a few games, let's save them... Sevilla are garbage this season so let's win it in the first leg.

I’d like Sabitzer instead of Fred in that position, he did really well today.

Can then use Eriksen later on to save legs and push Bruno up a bit

Definitely wouldn't start Eriksen so soon. He's been out for a good while so would like more than a 15 minute sub appearance before throwing him in from the start. Give him half an hour as a sub v Sevilla and see how he feels ahead of the Forest game.

However, without Rashford, I think it's time that Martial starts v Sevilla (but then I'd probably have him as a sub v Forest so as not to overuse him).

Good balanced midfield and potentially threatening attack with players very capable of playing combination football between Shaw + Sancho + Martial + Antony in attack.

Assuming Shaw and Rashford are unavailable. Bruno has been brilliant in the deeper role so I’m happy for him to play there until Eriksen gets back up to speed. It’s at home so I see Martial (may have something to prove since his loan spell there) starting over Weghorst, apart from that i think the team picks itself.

Maguire will start imo. It wouldn't be right to drop him after what was probably his best performance of the season v Everton.

We should be winning. This isn't the same Seville that we're used to. 13th in the league with only 33 goals

Considering the run of games coming, I want a Betis like score line here to rotate in the away leg. This is one game where we need to start taking our chances and thrash them. Will give our squad wiggle room to rotate and rest before the FA semis
Can see another half an hour cameo for Eriksen with a full game against forest.

Casemiro, Bruno and Sabitzer is a great midfield with McT coming on for Case. Antony, Anthony and Sancho up top should be enough to see off Sevilla

Hate playing these scabby bastards. They're like the Spanish version of Wolves.

Hopefully we can put a couple past them even without Rashford, and Casemiro can continue his La Liga demolition tour.

His best performance of the season was basically a normal game for Varane, so yes it's fine to drop him.

Feels a bit harsh not starting McTominay or even Fred... It's probably too soon for Eriksen, but he might start one of the next two if he gets on a bit earlier on Thursday.

Assume Shaw and Rashford are out, hopefully we can get the W without them and assess them before Forest on Sunday.

Based on EtH's comments it's too early for Martial to start too. He said they need to build his fitness up carefully so I think even an hour is too much to ask at this moment. People need to prepare themselves for WW :nervous:

I hope he's ready for 60 minutes  I don't mind Wout coming on for the last 10-30 mins in games we are already winning, as he'll chase down when legs are tiring. That should hopefully be his role from now on, but of course we can't be risking players if they're not ready. I can't remember the last time we had a full squad available.

The thing is you never know what happens in the first half. So even if you plan to play him for 60, there could be injuries and/or red cards (looking at you, Casemiro) to which we have to react by making early subs. I don't think you can fully commit to a pre-planned sub and that's why I can see Martial being used as a sub for a few more games before possibly making a start. And I can't really complain about that, even if it means Weghorst starting. As the other option could very well be that Martial is out for the rest of the season and we start every game with WW.

I think EtH mentioned there was one game this season where he had the whole squad available. Possibly the home game against Arsenal?

Casemiro is a joy to watch...so I'm looking forward to Thursday, even if we get the slightly rusty version.

I'm expecting an all action chaos football match!

    So what are the decisions?

AwB has been better and deserves to start

Shaw injured still, so Malacia starts

Casemiro straight back in. Too soon for eriksen. Fernandes starts per usual, which leaves one of Fred/Sabitzer/McTominay. I'd go for Fred who always plays well with Casemiro.

Rest Rashford who is probably injured and too early to start Martial. This means Wout is back in.

    so

    De Gea

    AwB
    Varane
    Martinez
    Malacia

    Casemiro
    Fred
    Fernandes

    Antony
    Weghorst
    Sancho

I really wish we could rest Bruno but I think he's too important to Ten Hag's system to drop. Praying Martial is fit to start so we don't have to resort to Wout again.
