Need to sort out the right side. I think Mata will come off for Mkh.
I think Rooney should come off. Mata's passing has been penetrating the defence and he could play in the #10 with Mkhitaryan coming on where Mata was before.

You can tell Rooney has had a decent game, only about 10% of the posts on here slating him in this match thread lol.

Night and day from LVG already
    Indeed.

    Under LVG, we'd be 0-0.
    Have the highest possession stats.
    Almost 0 shots on target.
And nothing much would actually be happening.
The fans would be shouting: ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK!!!

In his half time interview, LVG would then claim that we are dominating the match, but are lacking the luck to score a goal from our 1 and only chance.

Mata and Rooney slowing down the play. Martial lacks creativity to play on the wing. Zlatan's game still pretty dire except when in the box. Otherwise you can see it will work out somehow.

Valencia pushes forward a lot and started very well. We look weaker on the left rather than the right and you have to take in mind Mata tucks in a lot.
We are looking weaker from the left offensively because Martial's touch is missing completely in this game. Shaw has contributed more than Valencia in both defence and attack and we are shaky from the right defensively because Valencia has missed his man couple of times. Fellaini playing as a right sided CM has done well to cover for both Mata and Valencia defensively.

At home, United needs to score more... hopefully in the second half, we will go for 2 or 3 more goals to secure the goal difference ;).

I wouldn't say decent, but he's been better and not given the ball away as much.

Phil Neville is a bit thick.

We need to batter a team soon, so that "Mourinho will always plays tactical/defensive/ boring football" myth can go away.
Anybody who ever claimed it was that extreme with José is obviously wrong. Even Allardyce can produce some exciting football. Benitez was winning games with 10 goals just last year also. The criticism to Mourinho is that he doesn't build pro active teams that go for you. He builds solid teams that adapt to whatever in front of them. Naturally, since most of the time what is in front of him is not very good (especially with Real), his teams can score goals and create chances. We will be able to evaluate José's approach and whether that reputation is fair or not when we come up against the likes of City and Liverpool.

You just know that these cnuts will come up with something to ruin the party for us. We need to get the second goal quickly.

Sooner or later they will succeed with their tactic of camping on the offside line.

I'd take Rooney off for Schneiderlin but I think Jose would prefer to have Rooney's strength and work rate if we're trying to see out a match and having defensive issues over Mata.

Martial better wake up cause he will make it easy for Mourinho to bench him.
Easy? Who's going to replace him? Can Rashford really play there on the left? Memphis is not even on the bench… and Young's not my pick.

Don't like how narrow we're defending. Not enough width when we're attacking.

Martial's been meh. Apart from the assist, Rooney hasn't been fantastic either. Fellaini, Mata and Pogs have been great.

Pogs' just a bit like that guy in the Matrix eh? Neo was his name-o.

What? He was sloppy before the goal which was when I posted that.

But kudos to you for trawling through pages and looking for a comment you could :lol::lol: to.
Calm your bum cheeks down. I was watching the match so was on the older pages when I went back to my phone at half time. I'm not the one hovering over my PC/mobile in order to post something. I want to enjoy a match for once rather than spending most of it posting and reading other posts during it especially after the dross of the last 3 seasons.

Zlatan along with Matta, Shaw and Pogba have been our best players.

Just thought it was funny as sods law always strikes. Last season Fellaini came on as a sub to win us a game and I remember writing something like "oh ffs here comes plan F" as he was coming on lol.

How can any complain about the style?

Litmus test -- falling asleep within 10 minutes of watching United play under LVG.

I am still awake and I know the 2nd half is about to start.

    That's progress.

This feels more like the United of old - we play a bit shit (sometimes), but we're winning!

Both have been caught defensively, but it's normal really. Blind covers a lot for Shaw in that first half, along with Pogba as LCM. Mata offers a lot of help in the build up as well. Generally we're doing very well defensively and covering well.

I don't think we need to fix anything. We're in control and now we will have more space to operate in to.

Martial probably can be subbed as he looks a bit out of the pace as you mentioned, but all in all Soton are well organized and a good side.

Individual bits of class from Pogba and Zlatan, the team play isn't great but it's early days.
That's exactly what we should expect for now. Stars will shine, though not as brightly as usual. The likes of Rooney and Valencia and Fellaini just need to do their jobs well enough and we can get through the first few games on the back of individual brightness. If this ends up us at our worst this season (as it should be) then we have much to look forward to
