Say what you want, but right now they are a better side than us, and we will have to discover some form to get a result.

We dont look good right now but if anything our home form has been immense and I hope it will continue to be vs Southampton.

Rafael can start even with cheekbone injury and I think Shaw just wasnt 100 percent ready, not injured. Or so I hope.

They have rebounded from their bad patch and are a definite threat to our good run of home form, especially as our already crap defense will be more makeshift than ever. Hopefully Shaw was more about fitness than a major injury, otherwise it looks like Jones at RB and Blackett at LB with Smalling and Evans as the two CB's, surely we wont go 3-5-2 again, it really isn't a good fit for us when it requires playing out from the back with CB's who are not good on the ball.

I wouldn't say they have the better squad, but they're definitely in better shape. Not just injury wise. Yes, injuries have played a big part in our form slump, but our cohesion just isn't there. As a result, I think they'll come in feeling like favorites. And why wouldn't they?

A draw would be a good result, but it's not unwinable either. With our injuries, we have no choice but the 3-4-1-2 and the problem then becomes, which one of Rooney, Falcao, RvP or Di Maria to drop? Because they can't all play in that formation. Ideally, I'd go with...

    De Gea
Smalling, Jones, (Anyone but Evans, Rojo or McNair perhaps)
    Valencia, Carrick, Herrera, Young
    Di Maria
    Rooney, RvP/Falcao*

*One should inevitably replace the other to freshen up the attack. Last time we played against these with a 3-4-1-2, we barely created anything despite our possession and I expect something similar this time around. Our attack needs to be sharp and on song, converting as much as they can, because they won't get many chances. It'll be a matter of who starts and who finishes. Ideally, I'd like to see RvP start and come off at HT for Falcao. Mata can come on for Di Maria if the latter isn't having a good day on the pitch. We've seen that the little guy can be a very good impact sub.

What I'm completely dreading, however, and what I think we will see is...

    De Gea
    Smalling, Jones, Evans
    Valencia, Carrick, Rooney, Young
    Di Maria
    RvP, Falcao

With Wilson making another cameo at 65 and essentially killing off every attacking threat we have. He's a very good player, but he's just such a square peg in our current system. Rooney again being lost due to being too deep and unable to use his attacking threat.

You won't see Young as he is injured.

All we can really hope is that Southampton don't turn up and we continue our clinical form at home.

Can't wait to see Blind back now that Herrera and Di Maria are kinda in form again. Rojo back would be good too as we wouldn't have to see Evans.

Wait... We won't face Mane!!! That's comforting considering we are shot for fullbacks

So Shaw might play this am i right?
Rafael, Valencia and Young is out.

Hope to see this then :
    ---------DeGea---------
    Jones--Smalling--Evans--Shaw*
    --------Carrick---------
    -Herrera----Di Maria---
    --------Mata-----------
    --Rooney--Van Persie--

If Shaw is out then Blacket in, or Rojo if he can get fit.

I think Di Maria is the key. I dont see what position he would play in 3-5-2. He's no wingback and shouldnt be used as one by any means. He cant be one of the 2 mids in that formation too as it would be way too open.
He'd be best used as a LCM in diamond formation as it was said here numerous times with Herrera and Carrick and Rooney as an AM. That would mean dropping Mata and based only on his home form that maybe wouldnt be fair but on the other side we need Rooney closer to goal.

As for Falcao and RVP its tricky. Falcao needs games to prove himself and get in form so I dont see him being dropped. RVP even less chance of being dropped and although he's not his old himself he can still score out of nothing. Personally I'd like to see one of them being dropped for Rooney in attack if Rooney wont be an AM instead of Mata.

In any case we should really start with 4-4-2.

Need Blind back so bad. and I hope we get Strootman this window. need that ball winner...
Strootman has only just returned from injury and as a result has been average/poor.
He is not a ball winner at present.
If you need someone to come in and hit the ground running, Strootman is not the guy.

No way we play 4 at the back with our fullbacks gone
    Exactly.
352 is now our preferred formation (considering the constant injuries to our glass defenders) and is maintaining our unbeaten run .
Fans need to get used to it.

    Deja vu.
Same was said about Chelsea - they drew.
Same with Arsenal - we won.
Same with Southampton - we won.
I could go on...but you get the drift.
At OT, a loss is improbable.
Only Man City have better form than us.
I have no fear of Southampton.

    De Gea
    Rafael--Jones--Smalling--Blackett
    Herrera--Carrick--Rooney
    Mata--van Persie--Di Maria

Subs: Lindegaard, Evans, McNair, Fletcher, Januzaj, Wilson, Falcao

Hopefully Rafael can play with a mask on. I'm also hopeful that Shaw will be fit enough but if he isn't then start Blackett.

Switch to the diamond if this team isn't working.

Schneiderlein and Wanyama are going to bully our midfield. Need to set up to play them lb the counter. If Rojo is fit him in for the woeful Evans.

    De Gea
    Jones Smalling Evans
    Carrick
    Januzaj Rooney Herrera AdM
    Mata
    RvP

Can see us lining up like this because of the injuries and struggling majorly.

We need to score first here. Hopefully Rooney, van Persie, Falcao, Mata, Di Maria etc turn it on upfront. Can see them causing us a lot of issues at the back, especially with the confidence they have. Then again, our home form has been superb for months.

Back 4 to do defending and concentrate only on it.. Leave the scoring work to rest of the team..

Considering the amout of injured (tired to say this again and again !!!!), we’re short of choice for this game to be honest, let’s hope that Valencia and Rojo will be back for this one. Maybe that Rafa can play with a mask if he needn’t surgery.
