I can't remember the last time we didn't do that silly 'run over the ball before taking the free kick' routine.

There GK is making some good saves.
As per normal, he'll probably be their MOTM.

    Decent free kick.
Missed the whistle. Saw the linos running to the field, thought for a second that something happened

Really needed that goal. Now Sunderland will free themselves up a bit and hopefully we can bag a couple more.

    Half time reflections

We should have done better on the counter attacks
We're lucky to not concede a goal.
    Valencia is awfully fast
Mata is going to score today
We should have had a penalty
Blind is finally taking some runs on the left wing

Good half from us all things considered. Pogba with 2 chances and hit the woodwork once. Some exciting play in the last third with a bit of poor 15 mins in the middle of the half. We're in control tho.

Carrick seems a bit unnecessary in this game. We need someone close to Zlatan

One lucky day all of Pogba's almost's would go in. That day we'll win by 8 goals

Overall we looked the better team bar a ten minute spell, very happy to see us hunting for the second instead of sitting back. Ibra and Pogba's understanding getting even better, thought Valencia had a really good first half, we grew back into the game. Would like to see Martial on the left at some point in the second half.

Decent first half, just the one lapse in concentration where they had a good chance but that was more through an unlucky bounce that fell to them rather then anything being created. We haven't created as many chances as we should've, most things reliant on Pogba or Ibra to create something out of nothing. Good finish from Blind though and hopefully we push on with Sunderland needing to come out more. Sunderland worked crazy hard off the ball so made it difficult for us, a 2nd goal would kill them off though.

Good half but a few shaky moments, we really did get away with that one Sunderland chance.

I think everyone's has been good generally, standouts include Pogba and Jones. I'd like to see Mata up his game though, and Blind has been a little suspect at times though it is his first game back so I cut him slack. He did also score so ofc his net contribution is positive.

Would like to see us kill the game off early please! Defoe is dangerous.

What exactly is the point/role of Pogba in this team?

Seriously, all protectionism and sarcasm aside. What is he doing? Build-up only happens through Ibrahimovic (who is playing very well), Herrera and Mata. Pogba literally does nothing and he's extremely invisible. In fact, he seems to actively avoid receiving the ball in midfield by hiding behind opposition players or running up the pitch. He's constantly chilling around the box to get a longshot goal for his youtube compilations.

Incredibly pointless player, what a waste of money holy shit. Should've gotten Gündogan for half the price, even if he got injured. But from what it looks like, people are getting fooled by his almost-goals again. Those people don't seem to consider that in order to get 2-3 decent shots at the target (that were not good enough to turn into goals), he essentially gave up his role in a midfielder and played as a second striker.

jones looks the best playwr so far
    Jones?
DDG has already had to make some saves, so our defence is not doing particularly well.

Pogba has been rampant and I am enjoying Mata grow into the game.
    Blind's strike was good, too.

A few things from this half.

Our wide men so far have both been ineffective. Mata has left his post on the right meaning Valencia is responsible for the whole flank. A lot to ask for Tony V when you consider Van Aanholt likes to go forward too.

And when you've also got a genuine winger on the opposite flank in Lingard, he has to be providing an outlet as well, which he isn't. As it is, we're too narrow, We're too narrow and simply aren't exposing their full backs enough. We keep running it in the middle of the pitch where they've got plenty of bodies which means Zlatan has to drop back to get a touch of the ball. And when we do finally get the ball in the box, Mata is often the only man in there against Kone and Djilobodji who are both twice his size.

I think for the second half we should take Mata off for Mkhitaryan and maybe take Lingard off too for Martial/Rashford as they'll provide us real width on the right and left respectively and will also stop Zlatan from dropping in deep, keeping him in the box where he's most dangerous.
