It's becoming more and more clear as to why we would sell Hernandez.

He is an out and out up top goalscorer, other than that he tends to break up the play too much and his passing ability along the ground is almost non existent. I'd love to see Januzaj start the game as Rooneys strike partner if Welbeck is injured.

I love Hernandez but I just don't see him playing for the team and it's nothing to do with his attitude, it's just his attributes. Ironically he would be perfect for a team like Juve. Get it done!

Swap RVP in for Januzaj and you have it.

(I can't believe RVP is not fit enough for at least 60 mins).

If both Rafael and Valencia are injured, who will play RWB? Given that Shaw is also injured, meaning Ashley Young may have to play at LWB. We need to finalise the signing of Rojo ASAP!

    Early predicted lineup:

    De Gea

    Jones, Smalling, Blackett

    Young, Fletcher, Herrera, Shaw
    Mata

    Welbeck, Rooney
Bench: Amos, Valencia, Cleverley, Fellaini, Kagawa, Januzaj, Van Persie

That's how I see us lining up too. Assuming Evans won't be fit anyway.

I expect another 4-1 opening to the season against Swansea. But without the rest of the season that followed it

I'm on the coast, friend having a wedding that day. It is at 6 pm but as I'll be on an island, in a peaceful little town dont know where or how I'll catch the game. Maybe I'll need to stick to BBC text coverage or sthing. Even if I find some coverage which I doubt dont know how will I watch it while preparing for a wedding.

I think our players will be out for it, our win 3:1.

    Think i'd go with:

    de Gea

    Jones Smalling Blackett
    Young-----------------------Shaw
    Herrera Fellaini
    Mata

    Rooney Januzaj

Subs: Lindegaard, Young, Rvp, Welbeck, James, Fletcher, Kagawa
Think after Fellaini's performance last night we should give him a go while his confidence is slightly higher. You never know, under LVG he might become the BWM that we need to partner Herrera.

*Would like to see both Powell and Wilson get chances in the coming games, too.

I guess James would play LWB so Younginho would carry on playing on the right.

Think LVG's pecking order for the wingback positions are pretty clear. It will be James as LWB,Young RWB with Lingard on the bench to cover.

Rojo will play more of a LCB (if we do sign). Not really have watched him much but from what I heard he's not that really suited to be wingback.

    Young - Fletcher - Herrera - Shaw*
    Mata
    Rooney - Januzaj

    2-0 United.

    * assuming both are fit to start
Providing Welbeck's not available yet, you've nailed it. If Danny is fit, he should start and Januzaj come on during the second half.

    XI:

    de Gea

    Young Fletcher Herrera James
    Mata
    Januzaj Rooney

Subs: Lindegaard, M. Keane, Cleverley, Fellaini, Lingard, Kagawa, Hernandez
I think last nights performance from Hernandez to mean an omission from the starting eleven. He simply doesn't offer enough to a possession-orientated game and his link-up play, hold-up play and passing is non-existent. Januzaj might not be in prime condition, but I expect him to be a surprise inclusion after an impressive cameo.

I don't think we should desperately to bring back van Persie, or other players who have suffered recent injuries like Welbeck and Valencia. It looks like an injury-crisis is looming so if there is a possibility for Welbeck or Valencia to aggravate their injuries then simply leave them out of the match-day squad.

I think it will be quite close - even though I don't have the faintest idea how Swansea's pre-season has gone. I'll go for a tight 2-1 or possibly 1-1.

Would prefer Januzaj to Hernandez but I think his fitness is slightly off and he'll be a good option from the bench. We haven't really got many options at the moment, it hits home how weak our squad feels when guessing the first XI.

We really need 3 more players minimum.

    Anyways, 2-0 win. Rooney x2.

We need to start well unfortunately we have holes we haven't filled and injury crisis not looking good as a start.

True, but if we play Rojo at LCB, then Jones or Smalling (probably Jones) is free to cover for RWB. Though you are right, we will probably play James.

Much prefer Young at LWB, on the tour he was pretty fantastic out there, RWB, not so much, in fact, he's looked poor. Gutted about Shaw, but no point dwelling, this right here, would be my starting eleven.

Should be Swansea's team. They've definitely improved this season, they lost Michu, Vorm and Davies but they've done well to replace with them either with signings or players already at the club. Gomis, Fabianski, Emnes & Sigurdsson is a MASSIVE improvement from last season for a club of their stature.

Sigurdsson, Ki and the unfairly hated Shelvey has the potential to be one of the better midfields in the PL providing they fulfill their potential while Bony will be expecting to improve on his 16 goals last season. For me, Fabianski is a huge upgrade on Vorm while their defense is pretty much the same as last seasons.

These teams don't inspire much confidence... should squeeze past Swansea, but you never know. Bony might cause some problems.
Good test for the back 3, especially with Dyer and Sig coming from deeper positions.

Our defence is a serious concern for this one. Especially with them having 2 physial forwards in Bony and Gomis. Hopefully Evans recovers if not Blackett will have to come in. Have we heard anything more about Rafael? I know he is made of glass and left the tour early but i never heard a timeframe on his return. Anyway hopefully we can outscore them with the likes of Rooney, Mata etc. As i cant see us keeping a clean sheet.

    Starting XI

    Young
    Blackett
    Smalling
    Jones
    James

    Herrera

    Sigurdsson is better than Michu

Vorm is better than Fabianski, Emnes is a Championship player and Davies is a massive loss

with the current injuries to the squad... i actually think we should play 433..lvg had us play 532 in nothing friendly matches so we could get as used to the system as possible. welbeck out ... rvp unfit... and cheech not really being effective as a starter in this system... i think we should play with one striker and use a 433 formation.

    ..................DDG.......................
    .jones smalling evans/blackett james
    ................fletcher......................
    ..............mata herrera.................
    ..... adnan... rooney..... young.......

doubt it will happen... but makes no sense playing 352 to accommodate mata rooney and cheech. cheech is bettre as an impact sub in my opinion.

Fabianski is definitely better than Vorm and was easily Arsenal's best player in their FA Cup run. Never been a fan of Vorm, he's bang average.

Davies isn't a MASSIVE loss. He's barely better than Taylor who was their starter under Rodgers and was unlucky to lose his place.

Agreed with you on Emnes. He won't play much, just felt like mentioning him.

Really hope that Evans, Valencia and Welbeck are fit for this one. If not, then I hope the two young lads prove they're up to it.

But to be in this position going into the new season is disappointing. We've a fair few midfielders and attackers (which of those are still useful is another debate, as we've seen from the amount of players we're prepared to let go) but when we lose four defenders in one window and only bring one in, we're asking for trouble. It was bloody obvious we might get injuries that leave us short at the back and defensive reinforcements should have been signed weeks ago.

I just hope that doesn't come back to bite us on Saturday. I don't think it'll be as easy a game as people imagine.

Can't wait for kickoff. Glad we are the early kickoff so I don't have to wait a moment more to see us play.

Am optimistic about the season. Barring injuries and due to less matches I think we can compete near the top. Getting in top 4 is a priority, challenging would be a huge bonus.

Come on United!!! Let the singing begin!

Not a great start if RVP, Januzaj, Valencia, Evans, Shaw, Welbeck, Carrick, Rafael are unavailable and Lindegaard is off. LVG's management abilities will be tested over the next couple of weeks. On the bright side, a win puts us top.

We need a strong start to settle into the game, considering how young our defenders will be. Fletcher&Herrera better be up for this one.
I expect a boring first half and then one, maybe two goals in second.

I expect the same team as the other day. Not sure on Hernandez but the rest picks itself.

RVP and Januzaj on the bench incase we need them.

If Valencia isn't fit then start Young RB + James LB. If Evans is fit start him ahead of Blackett.

Assuming the currently injured players remain injured I'm hoping for...

    De Gea
    Smalling Jones Blackett
    Young Fletcher Herrera James
    Mata
    Rooney Januzaj

Pretty much picks itself, Januzaj ahead of Hernández because Adnan looks like he fits the style of play perfectly. Hoping for a win, but I think it'll be close - 2-1 probably - we haven't been entirely convincing in any game since Galaxy, we're still getting to grips with the new system and we already have what looks like the beginning of an injury crisis on our hands.
