Jose's competitive home record for Utd. Played 38, Won 26, Drawn 11, Lost 1. Don't see any reason to be pessimistic about Saturday.

Every time i go on a helicopter i fear it's going to crash. Statistically it's unlikely. Considering how we have played lately, and a Kane in form, it's logic to worry that Tottenham are picking up form at the wrong time from our perspective.

3 at the back seems to be in vogue at the moment, can someone explain why people think it's better suited to us than than 4 at the back?
Normally it isn't but it could be a good option for this game. It'd give the wing-backs a bit more license to get forward (especially if it's Young on the left) and a bit more protection at the back with only two senior midfielders available.

Spurs usually play that way too so it might be an idea to match them up.

    De Gea
    Valencia Lindelof Jones Darmian
    Herrera Matic
    Lingard Mata Rashford
    Lukaku

This would be my lineup but I bet he’ll play Smalling and Young. And probably Martial.

Unpopular opinion: I think Rashford should start as #9. Lukaku's movement and one-touch passing ain't great, would be a better option from the bench.

Mourinho did say it's the best way to counter three at the back teams.

I think neither 3-5-2 nor 4-2-3-1 suits us perfectly. People probably suggest 3-5-2 because it gets around a couple of issues:
    1) we don't actually have a right winger, we regularly play no 10s there
    2) in a 3-5-2 we can actually play one of those 10s at number 10 or we can play one of our young strikers as a second striker instead of a winger
    3) we don't really have a good left-back but Young, at a pinch, can be OK as a wing-back

Now, the glaring issue with 3-5-2 is we have barely any midfielders available right now so...
I think you rely a lot on wingbacks in that system and I don't think our wingbacks are up to the job. It feels like we'd be changing the system to get around some issues but then equally creating more.

I'm hoping we see Lukaku, Rashford and Martial in the same team at some point. I don't think we need to switch system to get them 3 together either.

I agree with you actually, I was just trying to show the thought process behind the 3-5-2 idea.

I fear this game as well, but it's most likely going to one hell of a dull affair. Tottenham are flying and we are not, this is something Mourinho will adjust for accordingly. Spurs look great when they have lots of space to attack in, on Saturday they will not have any. What's going to be frustrating, is seeing United laying down for any team at Old Trafford - there is a 100% chance of that happening this week. Lukaku is going to be incredibly isolated once again, hopefully Kane will have an off-day. Let's bring the tempo down and make them shoot from distance.

Prediction: 0-0 (which I would sadly take given the current state of affairs).

I just wonder what form will he be in if played directly into Spurs midfield. I can anticipate his overcomplicated decisions and passing right now. Still, great option to have. Not sure I would start him, though.

Would like to see us go 3-5-2

    De Gea

    Jones Bailly Tuanzebe
    Valencia Matic Herrera Young
    Lingard
    Rashford Lukaku
Smalling will start otherwise I see that as a very likely team. Lingard played 90 minutes though so maybe it is more likely that Mkhitaryan will play.

What is interesting though is that Spurs have changed tactics a bit recently. They have mixed between having 2 strikers (Son or Llorente next to Kane) or have Alli and Eriksen more advanced and closer to Kane.

We are difficult to bully in the air though so I think going with Llorente and more direct balls is very unlikely even if worked well against Real madrid since they couldn't really dominate the central midfield. Attacking us with pace from Son behind our defense and trying to overflood our midfield seem like a better tactic against us.

Playing the 3-4-3 that they started the season with seem like a reasonable tactic against us as well although with Dembele and Wannayama out they might lack a bit number for that. Sissoko and Winks in midfield is not that scary.

I can see it being a fairly defensive game overall. Don't think Spurs will commit with too much players going forward. Hopefully we can find a way to break them down.

Rob Dawson says Rashford and Herrera will be assessed after both picked up knocks against Swansea

Manchester United will assess Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera ahead of Tottenham's visit to Old Trafford this weekend after both picked up knocks against Swansea, sources have told ESPN FC.

Rashford reported a tightness in his hamstring during the first half of the 2-0 win at the Liberty Stadium while Herrera was caught on the ankle after a challenge involving Kyle Naughton.

The problems are thought to be minor but both Rashford and Herrera will be monitored by medical staff at Carrington this week.

I'd take a boring 1-1 draw, even if it means reading another 50 threads moaning about negative Jose.

Looking at our current form compared to Spurs', they are flying at the moment. They look so solid defensively, world-class goalkeeper and Kane just keeps scoring for fun. I would consider even taking a draw but that would most likely leave us 7 points behind Man City! With them to play West Brom...

I know the title is not decided in October but 7 points at this early stage is A LOT! We still have to play both Chelsea and Arsenal away before we play Man City at Old Trafford in December. So I feel if the 5 point gap widens we definitely need to pick up at least 4 points vs Chelsea and Arsenal and beat Man City in order to remain in touching distance come the end of the year.

The sooner the likes of Pogba, Zlatan, Bailly and co come back the better!

I get where you're coming from, but bringing on one of Martial or Rashford late in the game when players are tiring is a pretty invaluable weapon to have. I would bring in Mata for one of them; his horror show against Huddersfield has made people forget that he has been largely very good so far this season.
Mata has been very good? As far as I've noticed he's been average at best.

Why the heck would you pick Lindelöf for a game like this when we have other options?
