God, you guys are a bunch of fannies moaning about our defence. Just get on with it, and stop worrying about teams like Leicester and West Ham. This mentality is the reason for our mental fragility. Bunch of crap. We're gonna absolutely spank West Ham. 3 - 0

Another false dawn here before we get embarrassed at the back by Everton in a couple of weeks.
Everton aren't playing so well themselves.I expect us to win all our matches until Chelsea destroy us.

I thought although we fell to pieces the team just hasnt had chance to gel together just yet...

I think with time we will become more of a cohesive unit. We must be patient, and the results will come :)

    My team for West Ham:

    De Gea

    Rafael Smalling Rojo Shaw
    Blind
    Herrera Di Maria
    Rooney
    Falcao Van Persie
Rojo looked a bit uncomfortable with the pace of the Leicester winger but he impressed me massively against QPR. I think Shaw is more of a natural left wing back and thus, should be able to get up and down the wings supporting the attacks...

I think if falcaos effort had gone in and that ridiculous decision by the referee hadnt occurred we would be delighted with todays result and that we had got 2 wins on the bounce and had overtaken liverpool.

The fact is that when we concede, part of the team seems to panic and revert back to how we played under Moyes, we lack confidence.

With every win we will gain more confidence and move further away from the Moyes era.

Big Sam was in the Studio on the International broadcast here and was looking excited at facing us next week.

They have pace on the counter and pretty good workrate plus physical play as well so we need to be careful.

We wont win I think, West ham are playing far better football than we do, and I quite like the new downing and the likes of Valencia, Sakho, Kouyate, Diame. They play very physical and direct, with our quite small midfield players it will be a prob.

    Nah, we'll win.

We were quite unlucky today, we could have been three or four goals ahead before we turned off. Our attacking football is great, we'll score an abundance of goals. Just need a settled and strong defence.

Wouldnt be so confident, I wouldnt call it unlucky, our defence is just shambles. Ofcourse Mark changed the game, but didnt feel we were in control the whole game. And we miss power in the midfield.

We had five or six clear cut chances, on another day we'd have steam rolled Leicester.

The defence isn't much of a debate given the circumstances; the central-midfield isn't much of a debate either, so it's only really the front three that's up for discussion. Anybody want to make an argument for RVP to start after his recent performances? I don't know what the issue is there, but he's not looked right for a while and we can't afford passengers right now.

With the injuries, the defence keeps getting changed as well the switch of formation. We really need the same back four for a bit so we can work on our organisation. Hopefully starting with this game. So frustrating having the attack starting to look so good just for the defensive unit to be weak.

Drop one of Rooney/RVP/Falcao, Start mata and shaw.

Draw will do, yes a home game against west ham and i'd take a draw.

DDG needs to have a look at himself, no matter how exposed you're, a keeper with designs on being the best in the league/world one day shouldn't be conceding every short on target!
We'd be slating Joe Hart, DDG has been poor imo.

We need to rally behind the team and show fierce support to the team next weekend at Old Trafford... they need our support more than ever now.

Please god not Smalling, surely there's an alternative, couldn't Blind drop into the back four, and Fletcher, or preferably Carrick go into the DM position?

The front five is perfect, sadly RvP needs a spell out of the starting team.

Not really what I to see, but if we defend like we did today against West Ham we will get beaten.

There's literally no defensive backline I could put together - even ignoring injuries - that inspires confidence, but this one really seems to be a no-choice selection. Smalling has to play really - Jones and Evans are in their usual positions with the club doctor, Blackett is suspended and that's it for our options. Asking Rojo to play centre-back for the first time for us is enough of a concern without introducing Fletcher to the mix in front of him :nervous:

If (when) the starting defenders get injured during this game then it'll be interesting to see what options we'll have on the bench.

I doubt Carrick will be ready, much less to play the whole game as you'd hope your centre-backs would do (though this is unproven, as we have job getting our starting defence through an hour, never mind 90 minutes). When he does return then I expect he'll not be playing full games for a little while after that. That said, I did have similar thoughts about him playing at centre-back, particularly when we were going with three at the back - I wouldn't rule that out.

We really need to the midfield and attack to take control of games and play to run-up the score in our favour since we can't trust the backline at all - maybe send the attack out there being told to score a minimum of 5 goals (each?) just to be sure of a point? :smirk:

    Chant for the next game:

    Defend, Defend!
    Defend, Defend, Defend!

    Final score 12-8.

    Motm: Enner Valencia 7 goals.

At a guess it will be:
Gea, Rafael, Smalling, Rojo, Shaw, Blind, Herrera, Maria, Rooney, Falcao, Persie.
Maybe Valencia, Mata for Rafael, Persie.

Thinking about it more I think I'd go for a 4-4-2 here.
    De Gea
    Rafael Jones Rojo Shaw
    Januzaj Herrera Blind Di Maria
    Rooney Falcao
Would be potentially excellent and a throwback to the old United teams, great, exciting wingers with pace and skill,, attacking fullbacks, an energetic midfield with quality and world class strikers. Maybe it's too soon to play that as it'd probably be even more open then yesterday, and maybe Carrick would be more suited to the midfield 2 then Blind, but it'd be great to watch and I hope to see it some time this season.

In between Herrera and Rooney for him? He just didn't put the "di"
I just saw it moments after I clicked Post Reply.

The sense of dread that overcame me for being so blind can only be matched by the sense of dread every time I see an opposition team barreling down on our defence.
