Still annoyed we got this tie, of all the teams we could have been drawn with we get drawn with one of the better 19 PL sides (are there even 20 PL sides left in the competition?)

Hearing Ronaldo is refusing to play the Carabao Cup unless the name is changed to either Aqua Cup or H2O Cup.

If Hannibal isn't injured and doesn't feature then I would be disappointed. Even Elanga. Both should get chance.

Caf: If Ole doesn't win a cup for us this season he should go.

Also Caf: Team should be Lee Grant + the U23's.

We play on Saturday so it should be a mix of mostly first teamers and backup options. You can bet West Ham will be taking this seriously especially after the manner in which we just beat them.

I would like to see a team of: Heaton; Diogo Dalot, Lindelof, Jones, Telles; Matic, McTominay, van de Beek; Sancho, Martial, Mata.

I doubt it. They'll be really keen on the Europa this season so I'd imagine dropping out of this nice and early would be seen as a blessing secretly.

Although Antonio will probably start due to his suspension at the weekend.

Can’t see West Ham playing many first team players. They have Europa League to contend with, which I think they would prefer. They’re squad isn’t deep enough to potentially be in 3 cup competitions.

Yeah a fair point although that is more than a week away from when we play them tomorrow, I think they'll be in a position to field a decent enough side and will want revenge.

Winning just a cup that is the domestic equivalent of the europa league would not be anything to shout about.

This. It’s why I always think the league cup especially is a hiding to nothing for the manager. Damned if you do damned if you don’t.

No bruno, no ronaldo, no pogba. Figure it out with the rest of what we have. Should have enough to put forth a pretty strong lineup regardless.
Just imagine someone from 2015 getting a glimpse of this post! They would be going Ronaldo back? Get away! Pogba back? WTF is Bruno?

Exactly. If we lose, then press and people here will keep repeating crashed out of cup early for next 4 months.

That's become a fashionable attitude but I really don't get it.

It's a competition played by all the same teams who compete in the FA Cup, mostly won by the same teams who win the FA Cup, and is one of the 3 big domestic trophies we can win.

It was deemed good enough for Sir Alex to win it 4 times, City to care enough to win it 6 times in 8 years while also delivering league titles and FA Cups. We haven't won anything in 4 years - there's no way winning it at this stage should be deemed 'pointless' or beneath us.
100% this. Also we have a very big squad and we need to stay in this competition as long as possible in order to keep all players match fit and happy. Hendo, Heaton, Lindelof, Baily, Jones, Telles, Donny, Lingard, Sancho, Martial, Dalot, Cavani could all benefit from getting more minutes, also Rashford soon would be available and would also need minutes. Not to mention Elanga, Amad, Shoretire, Mejbri and possible a couple others from the academy. From these 17 players at least 15 would have their minutes severely restricted if we exit the cups early.

I signed Pogba & Ronaldo on my Fifa 15 career mode. Varane too.

I also signed Nathaniel Clyne & Saido Berahino on that very same career mode, so maybe I’m not such a genius after all.

Henderson, Telles, Bailly, Lindelof, DAlot, VDB, Hannibal, Sancho, Lingard, Mata, Greenwood. WOuld like to see something like that barring injuries and fitness with a similar bench JOnes, Matic, Shoetire, Elanga, Cavani, Martial.
Dont agree with the Ole having to win a cup. Of course its always good to win a trophy, but lets not like, this one is meaningless and doesnt make a difference of keeping or losing the job as manager. More important for me to get fringle players game time, struggling players game time for some confidence and youngsters a taste of football. I doubt West Ham will have a full line up either, its a home tie with fans and not that many opportunities available for several players, for a game like this it isnt a bad side and for me anyway there is absolutely no benefit for the likes of Maguire, Ronaldo, Varane, Shaw etc in playing or being on the bench

Would bloody love to see Hannibal get a game, and i think that midfield gives a lot of balance, with Matic and Donny in there. Not sure i'd risk Bailly or Heaton personally, but i like the first team you've put on.

I agree but I think he’s going to be more inclined to go with the likes of Lingard, Donny, Matic, Mata, etc.

Hope I’m wrong on at least Mata

Looks like Lingard is confirmed to start with Elanga and Telles to be in squad. I expect Telles to start as well. Shaw and AWB need rest.
AWB to play at the weekend with Dalot midweek in CL

That Frankenstein's monster would get an absolute hiding from a tough, well-drilled Moyes side. And you're not really doing Mejbri any favours throwing him into a gaggle of second-stringers who've never played together before.

And why are we bypassing Henderson for Heaton, is Hendo injured?

Hope to see them get some minutes but there are so many players above them in the pecking order that are waiting for their chances.

VdB, Lingard, Martial, Sancho at the very least need to start. I think he'll throw in one of Fred / Matic as well for the second CM spot.

    That leaves #10, RW.

What I would like to see
    Matic
    Van de Beek Hannibal
Hopefully we start this. Actually puts all the players in their favored positions instead of asking the midfield to do everything.

I'm not bothered that much about League cup but this game is important for few players, like van de Beek and Martial, Dalot too (though he'll get his chance against Villarreal as well). Hopefully they play well, Donny was good against Young Boys until he got subbed off, this time (I hope) he should get 90 minutes of football.
