Mata should start this match. Behind rooney. Herrera seems to be at his best when mata plays. I would still start di maria. He had a bad game today but i think he will keep his place.

    __________DDG__________
    Valencia Smalling Rojo Shaw
    _______Blind Herrera______
    __________Mata__________
    Di Maria ___Rooney____Young

Same back 4 if Shaw isn't fit.

It's games like this we have struggled mostly this season. It's time for Van Gaal to show us a bit more what his team is made of, if we can't get 3 points here, then I don't know how we'll get top four. I'll personally prefer a double pivot of Carrick and Blind, with Herrera ahead of them and Rooney as the lone striker. Di Maria should start from the bench [that will teach him], Januzaj and Young on the wing. We need to be a bit more pragmatic.

    Run of events.....

We will dominate possesion early on to the 30 minute mark yet manage to have no shots on target

Newcastle will then score a goal from a stupid mistake

Halftime we will be losing 1-0

We will come out and score straight away to make it 1-1

Then nothing else will happen and it'll finish 1-1

sadly this is the normal run of things

we need a few wins in a row to build some momentum so I hope the football gods smile on us for once and give us a bit of luck to help us on our way

    I'd like to see

    --------------------------DDG---------------------------
    Valencia---------Smalling------Rojo--------------Shaw
    -------------------Herrera----Carrick (too soon?)------
    Januzaj----------------Rooney-------------------Young
    --------------------------Falcao--------------------------

I'd like to see Carrick back as Blind has been looking very average the last couple of games

    Play Mata please....
In an away match against a pretty direct side? I highly doubt it. Ameobi and Sissoko give me the feeling Fellaini will start, Smalling is the only other player we have that matches them stature-wise.

Falcao needs to be taken out for our sake as much his. Play Rooney up top and put in Di Maria and play 433. With a midfield of Herrera Di Maria Carrick/Blind.

iirc Ander is going to court in Spain the same day?
    Are you sure?
It was mentioned a few weeks back. We will have to wait and see on Wednesday, at least if he isn't there we know why and it isn't LvG doesn't like him.
Apparently its Thursday morning... We'll see I guess. Doubt he'll play in both this game and the game against arsenal because of the extra travelling he'll need to do and because he'll miss training on Thursday.
Mata and carrick in for him and falcao though and overall I think we'd be fine, if he is out.

Right. I would love him to be available for the Arsenal game if possible. The fact the F.A. Cup is Monday night might now be a blessing. If it was Saturday he would have lesser chance of playing in it.

that could work - Rooney was right place at the right time against Sunderland for that second goal

hard to see Van Gaal not playing 2 strikers though

Hope he doesn't play Falcao as he is out of sorts and we can't carry him. We could carry Di Maria though personally I think he's such a threat with his running power and pace. I'd be tempted to bench Adnan and start Mata also as the guy produces end product in games.

I agree we should do that.....we must attack Newcastle like City have done last weekend.

But i doubt would play a attacking midfield with Di Maria & Herrera + Rooney, Young & Falcao/Januzaj

I think if we brought Mata back in it would be at 10.....

if Di Maria started ahead of Januzaj it sends out the wrong message

Di Maria was rightfully subbed and Adnan did well when he came on - he deserves a start

Hard to disagree I just think we need Di Maria more.

The importance of this game feel heightened after the Liverpool win in particular. I hope Ander can play, this game is more important then the Cup game with Arsenal.

I think he will keep Herrera for the Newcastle game, probably won't play him against Arsenal, so bring in Adnan for that game. Might even see a Carrick, Blind for Arsenal. With Adnan/ADM Young combination. Do not see Young being dropped.

Can't really see any changes from the Sunderland game, except for Shaw to come back in and Rojo to move across.

Need to try and keep a fairly consistent squad now the tough games are coming thick and fast. As an example, we can't have Rojo and Young misunderstanding each other.
