I’m starting to like ten Hag’s lineups. Not sure that’s a compliment, though, as it’s mainly down to him benching all his bad signings.

    Starting Maguire, Rashford, and McT

Ten Hag has completed his transformation into Ole Gunnar. Starting his favorites rather than best players

We will 100% lose this game, and this is the first time I have even thought this, but Erik needs to go in the Summer

Ten Hag now beginning to display Southgate levels of stubbornness. Rightfully called out during the presser for sticking by Onana yet dropping other players at the drop of a hat.

Rashford continually rewarded for his atrocious form. His performances have been utterly woeful. Antony deserved a start after his outing against Gala.

I usually have an unwarranted sense of optimism when it comes to United games but I think we've seen that McTominay in midfield being anonymous and Rashford in terrible form that neither deserves to start.

We should also be playing Varane alongside Maguire and Shaw at LB. You can argue Onana should be dropped after that terrible performance in the CL too but I think his recent PL performances have saved him.

The shining lights in the lineup are Garnacho and Mainoo both starting

Shaw is probably our best LCB. Reguilon should maybe play over Dalot.
Shaw is excellent. Problem being Dalot is absolutely shite. I've never seen a player misplace as many simple passes as consistently as him. Varane is at the very least good so I don't know why you wouldn't just play him and put Shaw at LB. Hence I assume there has been a falling out. As I said a proper club would sell him in January and get a good starting level replacement. After watching us for the last 10 years we'll bench him until the summer and sign the ghost of Shawcross as his replacement.

Shaw at cb then? Lindelof's been pretty crap so I don't have a problem with it. Good to see Mainoo starting. Big game for him. Hopefully he performs.

Other than Martial and Dalot at left back, it was pretty much what I expected.

We need to, first and foremost, compete physically. After that, if we play like we have done in the last few games, we'll create chances.

Bit disappointed McTominay's in ahead of Amrabat, would have preferred a bit more help in midfield.

Relieved to see Lindelof dropped. He's been getting away with it lately because he's more of a footballer than the other left centre back options.

It robs us of Shaw on the flank. However, at least we have someone who can contest physically alongside Maguire now. Lindelof has to be one of those the club looks to sell in the summer.

With Dalot on the left it looks like Ten Hag will try to invert the full backs. That might allow us to get away with Bruno and McTominay moving ahead of the ball. Fingers crossed, eh?

His favourites? He wanted rid of Maguire and McTominay in the summer! If anything their inclusion (and someone like Antony being left out) points to the opposite of favouritism (which I definitely think ETH has been guilty of but today is a strange day to call him out for it).

Plus, Maguire should pretty much be the first name on the teamsheet on merit.

I'm not going to defend Dalot. Dreadful footballer.

Surely that's down to fitness. He played the full 90 mid-week after not being in the squad vs Everton.
Luke Shaw was out for 92 days and played 76mins against Everton and 90 mins against Galatasaray. I'm sure Antony could manage a second game in a similar turnaround and build up some form or be rewarded after a good performance.

I'm fed up of seeing Rashford start tbh.

Shaw at CB is bizarre considering we have actual fit CBs, but he did have a good game against City last year.

VDB on the bench over Hannibal is criminal. You know that VDB isn't good enough and will be gone soon (hopefully) so why put him on the bench over a promising young player? Hannibal has been horribly mismanaged this season. If he wasn't considered part of the squad he should have been loaned. We'll end up losing him and we'll regret it.

Night time in the north east? Below freezing? I hope he does, but the chances of Martial fancying it must be at all time low.

He’s been no worse than Dalot, who is bad on the right - let alone out of position on the left.
He needs games to get back into shape. He’s got no match fitness, and he won’t get any deputising for 15 mins from the bench.
My recollection is that Varane was under pressure when he had the ball, couldn't deal with the press and his passing was off this season. Perhaps it's as you say but away to Newcastle is no time to try and find some match fitness.

I'd agree that Dalot shouldn't really play on the left and hopefully Shaw makes us more secure in the centre. Strange one though, has Reguilon been that bad?

Silently petrified that Onana will drop another clanger. Every time Newcastle take a shot, I'm going to be wincing.

Varane has not been good this season though. There doesn't have to have been a falling out.

He needs to work hard and show he's a better option than Maguire. Surely, that's not a hard thing to do?

I like the faith in Mainoo. We might see Mainoo and Miley both

Rest of the lineup I'm not that confident in, but Garnacho has done well recently

We are playing a team with more players missing through injury or other reasons then us. Therefore no excuses about Casimero, Martinez and the others. The line up is OK, I'd have Antony instead of Rashford..not sure what is the issue with Hojlund and McT has been better than Amrabat so let's do this...
