Southampton haven't played in almost two weeks. What impact would that have?

I can't really see it being massively positive, they'll hopefully not be match sharp. Most professionals are used to playing a match every weekend and training matches just aren't the same intensity.

The only thing they can do better is work on shape and a formation specifically for us. Maybe if it goes into extra time we might see them being fitter.

They've won 1 in the last 4, which was against Sunderland. Before that they lost 3 only scoring twice and conceding 10 goals. They've not played a competitive game since 11 Feb. That's gotta count for something.

We'll have plenty of time to get rested before Sunday and we're on a very good run and match sharp, ready to go.

We'll be ok. I don't care if it's an extra time winner or penalties, just want the win.

Plus, they are missing their best player.

    Valencia, Bailly, Smalling, Blind
    Herrera, Pogba
    Mkhitaryan, Mata, Martial
    Zlatan

SUBS - Rashford (Martial), Fellaini (Mata), Young (Blind)

    Southampton 1 - 2 Man United
    Zlatan (penalty), Martial

I don't think its gonna be a cakewalk, I can see Saints being really up for it obviously.

Wouldn't it be bolder to pretend Zlatan or Pogba was injured if he was trying to pull a fast one?
I don't think he's saying Mkhitaryan was pretending to be injured. Just that it might not be a big deal

The best starting XI United can produce and should,

    De Gea
    Valencia Bailly Rojo Blind
    Schweini Herrera
    Mata Pogba Martial
    Zlatan

I wish they start like this and then sub in the likes of Lingard, Rashford and Young. Not Fellaaaani please. We should be able to get them at Wembley. I hope we win and get our second silverware of the season (counting the charity shield as well) and then we can continue the run. Just 1 loss since september but 1,000 draws. How i wish at least some of them were winners or even losers, it could've gone either way. I think the table shows exactly how good the teams are and i also think we can easily threaten The Saints.

Woah the score prediction thing is glitched, it's basically 90% say Southampton win.

Fellaini has played better than bastian since he signed for us....

I have never seen such a pessimistic prediction.
Most of you think Southampton will win. I would love to know the logic used to arrive at this prediction.

The only thing not going in our favour is that it will be on neutral ground and its a one-off cup game. Anything can happen.
But logically, MUFC are more likely to win.

EDIT: the reason why the weird pie chart was showing that most people predicted an away win, was because both teams were listed as away teams. It's sorted now and most fans think MUFC will win.

Yes, he said according to his experience they are out but not according to the medical team. At least one of them will play IMO.
We only need one to be able to start and play 60. Ibra up top with Mata and Martial on the wings, Pogba and Herrera in midfield with either Carrick behind them or Mkhi in front of them, and the back 4 is settled apart from Rojo vs Smalling (Smalling for me).

If both are out, I'd rather see Lingard then Fellaini as the 3rd midfielder. Would be good to have some mobility.

Southampton will have Caceres in his debut or Stephens (a child) at CB, partnered by Yoshida, so Zlatan vs them is probably the big mismatch in class.

I do think they can cause us real trouble going forward. I'd probably bet on 2-1 or 3-1 to us.

@Niall United was listed as the away team yesterday and now the score prediction is a right mess.
 crap, totally forgot that would happen when switching the teams around. Good thing I've added the Change Score Prediction feature!

Ok I've done some database tomfoolery and swapped the scorelines around for predictions made during the time United were the home team and Southampton were the away team.

Still, if you've made a prediction today, it's worth double checking that it's correct.

This makes sense - both teams are listed as away teams, hence the weird pie chart.

Mata is too slow to play on the wings, it would be better if he plays in front of a 2 man midfield (Pogba and Herrera) if Carrick isn't playing, with Mkhi on the wings if he's fit. If both Carrick and Mkhi are out, Rashford or Lingard should play on the wings with Mata as the 3rd midfielder. Fellaini can only do one thing properly, i.e. control the ball using his chest when the ball is played over.

I would say it suggests Jose will order a high press and hope the extra time off will mean they're slow out of the box and we can capitalise. An early goal by us and the game should be comfortable after that.
Generally speaking we tend to be weak in the 1st half.
Then at half time, Jose gives his team talk, after which our team come out firing on all cylinders. This happens in virtually every game.

I think starting such a strong side against St. Etienne will begin to work against you if Southampton manage to drag the game into the latter stages and maybe even extra time. Mkhitaryan will be a huge miss as well, even if you are favourites. On the other hand, Southampton are massively overrated by the English press and you should be out of sight by half-time. Gabbiadini should be a threat but not if you pull ahead.

    De Gea
    Valencia - Bailly - Rojo - Blind
    Herrera - Pogba
    Mata - Martial - Rashford
    Ibrahimovic

    Gabbiadini
    Redmond - Ward-Prowse - Tadic
    Davis - Romeu
    Bertrand - Yoshida - Stephens - Cedric
    Forster

I am optermistic about Sunday, we are playing well, unbeaten in what 25 games.
Mikhi maybe being out is a massive blow, but one we can cope with.
Besides I want revenge for that sodding offside goal :keano:

Hard game, but an impressive 3-1win.
