Nope, I don't see us breaking the curse anytime soon. Another United 4-0.

    Saints struggle to score goals.

I think we will win this.

    -------------- DDG --------------

    Valencia - Bailly - Jones - Blind

    ------ Fellaini -- Magic ----------

    --- Mata -- Mikhi --- Rashford

    ----------- Lukaku -------------

    Saints 0-2 Utd (Mata, Lukaku)

Will be tight. I don't expect a 4-0, but I do expect that pizza I ordered to be delivered soon.

1-0 or 2-0 would be fine.

would like to see Lukaku dominate a defence soon - still think there is a lot more to come from him

    De Gea
    Valencia Bailly Jones Young
    Matic Fellaini
    Mata Mkhi Rashford
    Lukaku

Subs: Romero, Smalling, Darmian, Carrick, Herrera, Lingard, Martial

The squad pretty much picks itself at this point, which is pleasing. Only question is Rashford or Martial to start - think it'll be Rashford here then Martial midweek.

You just know that Gabbiadini will turn into superman again, and Tadic / Redmond will play like Robben and Ribery.

I think we might sneak this 2-1. They've been a bit of a bogey for us the last few years.

You never know what Southampton team will show up.

    I'd be happy with a 2-0 result. Lukaku x2.

Whilst obviously we'd like to win every game, like Stoke this is a tough place to go and, realistically, a draw would not be the end of the world. And, to be honest, that's the result I expect.

Must win for me. City will probably trash Palace at home as well.

I think we will win, it probably won't be too pretty tho. Can't really see saints scoring, going for a 1 nil.

Surely the "tough game" talk isn't based on their league form this year

    0-0 draw home to Swansea
3-2 win home to West Ham **
    0-0 draw at Huddersfield
    0-2 loss home to Watford
    0-1 win at Crystal Palace

**They had a man advantage from the 34th minute on and 2 of their goals were penalties and the 2nd penalty came in the 93rd minute. Not to mention they conceded 2 goals while having the man advantage
I think that most people don't quite understand how bad Southampton are. Either that, or they believe that somehow, they will start playing like Real Madrid and flatten us.
Personally, I see nothing but a win or at the very worst, a draw.
3 or 4 goals surely have to be the expectation here.

Well, at one point it will be... before we go on to win 6-1.
    I like how you think.
Realistically, if we do really spank a team, it will be OT. I don't see us scoring more than 4 goals, in an away match.
I do firmly believe though, that at OT, a team is going to get seriously humiliated (7 or more goals put past them).

    Swansea was an away game.

I normally expect 2 goals away. That's classic Jose style. Its' the defense who should do their job and ensure they don't concede silly goals.

Said before the Everton game I could see us dropping points in the next 2 league games. Hope I'm wrong but this will not by easy and any win would be great.
It's gonna be easy dude. Don't fret.
Right now we should be enjoying the good times. Our team is steam rolling almost any team it comes up again.

This form won't last forever, so enjoy it while it lasts (that's why I'm so bullish about our games at this present moment).
There will be plenty of time to be pessimistic later on in the season if/when we start losing.

I think some fans have been so badly scarred, due to the Moyes/LVG era, that even when we are playing well, fans can't believe it and think that we must be getting lucky with every goal scored. And that the moment we come up against a poor team like Southampton, we will unravel.

Well Everton got steam rollered by Atlanta but let's be honest if Rooney had his shooting boots on we could have gone 2-1 down. We need a much better performance than against them.

I don't think they are as bad as you are making out, it's a tough game imo.

In these types of games against lower opposition, if we score first, I feel it's pretty much over. Lukaku, Rashford, Martial and Mhiki will again punish.

Will be tough, Saints are quite difficult to break down, I can see a narrow, hard-fought but deserved win:

    --------------DDG------------
    Valencia--Bailly--Jones---Young
    -----------Matic---Herrera---
    ------------Fellain------------
    Mkhitaryan-----------Rashford
    -------------Lukaku-----------

SUBS - Martial (Rashford), Mata (Mkhi), Lingard (Fellaini)

    Southampton 1 - 2 Man Utd
    Lukaku and Martial.

    12 Aug - Premier League
    Southampton 0 - 0 Swansea City

    19 Aug - Premier League
    Southampton 3 - 2 West Ham

23 Aug - Football League Cup Second round
    Southampton 0 - 2 Wolves

    26 Aug - Premier League
    Huddersfield 0 - 0 Southampton

    9 Sep - Premier League
    Southampton 0 - 2 Watford

    16 Sep - Premier League
    Crystal Palace 0 - 1 Southampton

Judging by these games they look like they really struggle for goals, even at home. I don't know what to expect because vs us everyone likes to turn it on but I would be disappointed if we don't win. I also expect them to start VVD.

Can I assume we'll be wearing our black away shirt, but with white shorts tomorrow? Seems our home and third kit would clash too much.

3 in midfield didn't work very well vs Stoke. I guess this is the reason why everyone predicts that Herrera will start on the bench?

I haven't watched Soton this season. Are they worse than Stoke or same level?

Mata provides us control that having both Martial and Rashford won't. Add Mkhitaryan and we're asking for trouble.

Mata is a necessary playmaker further up the pitch who keeps the ball moving and the game - with Matic - under our control.

He will play, at the expense of one of Rashford - Martial and rightly so.

    Martial > Rashford.

Seems harsh to drop one of them, but Martial is the better player on his day and if this is the chance for him to get some consistency behind him, he has to start. Rashford would still be a great option to come off the bench. We should start with:

    Lukaku
    Martial Mata Mkhitaryan
