The big problem today and in many other games we have played is our build up play, our technical players like Mata, Herrera and Carrick etc take much too long to create a killer chance. The problem is i'm not 100% sure who's fault that is - RVP and Falcao were constantly making half decent runs but our midfield players simply were just not seeing them and instead of driving the ball forward they are passing sideways and prolonging the build up process.

Do our strikers need to re-think the types of runs they are making or do our midfield players need to work on their through balls? I'm not completely sure. It will definitely help with di Maria and Fellaini coming back in our starting 11 however.

A big positive today for me was Falcao, you can see he still has all the talent there, he just needs games to get his confidence and rhythm back.

Edit: People slating LVG are idiots.

LVG is not getting the best out of the team, he has wingers, LB's and RB's playing as wing backs, strikers playing in midfield. Midfielders left on the bench, putting subs on that end up fecking the team. He'saking simple things complicated. He needs to feck off with his stupid 3-5-2 or 5-3-2 even at the World Cup it wasn't that great apart from when the played Spain and Brazil. This is the premier league, his system is hindering the players, play a fecking system the players can thrive in. People on here say Mourinho plays boring football but he sure has his team playing a damn sight better than we are. You have all these talented players but he's still got the players playing crap.

Neville making some sense. Difficult conditions at the Brittania. I think the team were not that bad today and taking everything into consideration, this definitely feels like a point gained rather than two dropped.

Well we were bad and we lost points. But with whole new team, new manager and 50 injuries we are third. Behind 2 world class teams that play with same squad couple of years. Lvg did everything right in this 5 months. In some games we played fantastic football. Villa away we were bad and today. But conditions were awful today. Stoke adapted , we did not.
Yes, there are some things that lvg must fix but he will. When we buy new central defensive pair it will be great team .
Yes i wanted title this year but that is out now. Let's be third, win cup and next year go for title.

That is the unfortunate thing, they do combine well. However, Juan has had to play all three games over Christmas and Ander has been injured, so wouldn't have started today. Hopefully Juan will get a rest against Yeovil, Ander will play and they both play against Southampton next weekend.
Yeah thats true, that would be best way to give mata some rest, and herrera build up match fitness, so they can hopefully start against Southampton

I really don't understand people who are moaning here and everywhere on this forum ATM.

This is one of the hardest places to go. And there was so much wind that if you would build a wind turbine in middle of the stadium it would produce enough energy for the whole town. TBF we were lucky to escape with a point.

Subs where exactly the same as most of people here wanted. I can understand all subs. Shaw is probably not ready yet for 90 min, Falcao was tired and we got more control in midfield with Herrera who played very well and Young got injuried.

Yes it is fustrating that we didn't get 3 points but it is not a bad result.
Which is why Burnley and Leicester have won here.

Nobody wanted Falcao to be subbed over RVP.Falcao was tired but RVP was not?RVP has played full 90 mins for last 3 games now.
Also why sub Shaw if you don't have a back-up wing back ? Why not shift Young to LWB after the sub where he plays better?

The only reason the result is not bad is because the performance as completely rubbish much like your post.

Thought it was closer than that but it'll be one point after the end of the day. I still say 6 points from the last 4 games is not good enough, not really CL form and definitely not champions form … we're lucky to be where we are IMHO
The title talks is just us trying to keep the wheels rolling imo, we are basically Chelsea last year. I'm happy with 3/4th place and good transfers in the summer :)

We had more of the ball, but Stoke did look a bit more threatening than us. If "the philosophy" keeping the ball, with little to no penetration in the final third, we will finish 4-5th this season.

Great effort in difficult circumstances. I know you "supporters" will say the team wasn't playin well but another then the first corner and a spell of 10 mins for stoke we dominated stoke deserved the draw for there energy but we played well enough. This team is still a work in progress but I know it will come.

Controlled the game? That's a stretch. Stoke had more goal scoring opportunities than us. Spurs was another matter and not the game in question here.
66% possession, we controlled the game, it's not a stretch it's a fact. We didn't do enough with the possession but we certainly dominated the game.

United start 2015 the way they ended 2014. Shaky, frail at the back and no creative spark with the ball at their feet.

The reason we keep getting such results is that we expect too much from average players. The likes of Jones, Smalling, Evans and co shouldn't be first choice for a club like United. Simple as that. You cannot challenge for the title banking on players who're unreliable and just not good enough footballers. There's a difference between being athletic and being a good footballer. The three named above have never put in a consistent run of games and only do well spread over random games. Look at the Arsenal, same problem unlike City and Chelsea. Their players are rock solid, consistent and don't have brain freezes like ours do. Football is no longer a game of being strong, being athletic. You need to compliment that with good game reading, being sound positioning wise, tracking players, committing intelligent fouls.

Going forward we seem to lack cohesion, a specific style of play and there's nothing through the middle of the pitch. just like last season we're over reliant on the wings with the ball being pushed out wide. Half the season is gone and we may well be third but I'm in no way content with the showing so far. Yes, we've had injuries but I'd expect a lot better from a Man United squad, not in terms of results but in terms of display. Stoke like other teams were going for the kill, looking for the winner more than us. That's saying something. ‪#‎RantOver‬

Man City, Southampton, Everton, Liverpool all still to go to Stoke, I would be surprised if more than one of them claim all 3 points.

People can have 20% possession and win a game. It is what you do with it that matters. We did nothing. I understand he wants us to keep the ball, but it's no good if that possession is just going backwards and forwards between the defenders and midfield.

If you want us to turn into Arsenal, you're at the wrong address, mate.

Louis Van Gaal: We didn't deserve any more than a draw. They were closer to a winning goal than us. We have seen how difficult it is to defend long balls, both here and in the home game against Stoke.

"We had time and space to build play, but we didn't create much.

"Stoke also had to deal with the wind, but they are used to that. They played long balls a little easier. We had the space and time to play football. The wind was not too heavy. We should have played better today."

A point gained MEANS that we should be doing much better. Means Stoke were the better side which shouldn't be. Had Begovic been their savior I'd be more content. We do nothing with possession. It is not a new problem to be honest.

It's simple we get rid of this shite formation 3-5-2 and revert back to 4 at the back. We will be playing good football again and our attacking play will come good again. Van gaal
Needs to to stop being stubborn and stick with what's best for our team.

I don't care about your criticism(indeed he didn't have a good game), but your wordplay is bafflingly awful.
He was garbage always has been always will be. Jose sold him for a reason his days at the club are numbered, the sooner Di Maria comes back the better.

It is normal with our playing style to have a bit more possession percentage, also considering the way Stoke usually play. However, this is far too insufficient to invoke such terms as "domination". Watch a re-run, or read LVG's post match. We got lucky.

More from Louis van Gaal, on United's defending of set-pieces: "We know that is happening. We have had two meetings about that. We knew Peter Crouch was heading the ball to a second player, who was totally free. That was very bad. But, it was good that we kept the spirit and equalised.

"Ashley Young has a hamstring injury. Luke Shaw, I don't think is a problem. That was a planned change.

"We have to play better in away matches. In my opinion, there is no difference in away matches to those at home - our fans are fantastic. We have to do better.

In terms of our next six PL games, Southampton at home aside, the rest are more than winnable. However, we also said that for our last 6 games.

I respect Van Gaal for his none bullshit post match interviews, atleast he sees it's not good enough. Needs to make more changes though, same old shite every away game so far this season

Took Sparky about five seconds to mention the penalty appeal.

Expected a draw here, too much against us (away form, festive fixtures, injuries, windy stoke, Rooney's hangover) and we've already rode our luck a lot in the past few months. Looks like we've got a better run of fixtures coming up, but we need to improve, hopefully Fellaini and Di Maria are close to being back.

I'm happy with the point. Windy Britannia Stadium is always a tough place to go, and I think we played allright.
We are still struggling badly in the last third, I really hope we get some creativity going on as the team starts to gel and adapts the new system.

I think its a decent point.I am more pissed about the Villa and Spurs away. We are not title challengers and for a top 3 , a point at stoke is a good return.

Focus on home fixtures and the bottom half away matches, we should be good for top 4.

On another note I have a bet that Falcao will score more than Welbeck this season...I'm still in with a chance!

    Poor
    Don't understand the subs
the Shaw substitution was pre planned as he didn't have "match rhythm"
Falcao has played 3 games in a week and is coming back from what can be considered the games most debilitating injury.
    Youngs hamstring had gone.

    Your welcome.
