Saw this on City forum and it was kinda scary to look at, do Leicester have a better starting eleven than us?

De Gea
Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw
McTominay, Matic, Pogba
Lingard, Rashford, Martial

Schmeichel
Ricardo, Evans, Dunk, Chilwell
Tielemans, Ndidi, Maddison
Barnes, Vardy, Gray

I think it's so worrying that it could actually be argues that they do..
They have a better midfield, but overall, we're slightly ahead in my view.

Nope and that's not even our best 11 either.

We clearly need another midfielder as a minimum. For me with our defensive reinforcements this should be someone with creativity not a cdm.

Most of the best teams in Europe have 3 or 4 creative players, who do we have? With what we’ve got we just won’t create enough. Dybala, Eriksen or fernandes is a must before the deadline, I’ll take any gladly.

it's reassuring to know that we are slightly ahead of Leicester. Phew
I expect the gap between 4th and 7th/8th to be pretty narrow this year. I don't think there's much difference in quality between Leicester/Wolves/Everton and Chelsea/Arsenal/United.

Preferred team today, based on preseason:

De Gea
Wan-Bissaka Lindelöf Maguire Shaw
McTominay Pogba
Lingard Pereira Rashford
Martial

Bench: Romero, Tuanzebe, Young, Fred, Gomes, Greenwood

Looks like we're done transfer wise so based on what I've seen pre-season and assuming 4-2-3-1:

De Gea
Wan Bissaka, Tuanzebe, Maguire, Shaw
Mctominay, Pogba
Greenwood, Lingard, Martial
Rashford

I think it's high risk with the defence likely to be exposed a lot by the lack of defensive nous in midfield. It's not great but it's as good as we've got.

I agree that it barely stands up to Leicester in terms of quality. It's going to be a long season.

Shaw is only in by default from having no real competition. Smalling seems to have been phased out, otherwise should start. Not many options elsewhere.

As things stand, I'd like to see this team. We need control in midfield and we can only have that with players who are good at 'ball retention' under pressure.

De Gea
AWB - Tuanzebe - Maguire - Shaw
McTominay - Pogba

Gomes

Greenwood - Rashford - Martial

sadly I think this team almost picks itself

--------------------De Gea-------------------
AWB----Lindelof--Maguire---Shaw
----------------McT------Pogba------------
Greenwood-----Mata-------Martial
-----------------------Rashford--------------

James unlucky to get a start - maybe Lingard/Matic instead of Mata depending on opposition

still real weaknesses to that lineup

No and one of those players isn’t a Leicester player.

The fact that we just sorted our most urgent positions RB and CB while having McT ready to be a starter that alone will win us alot of points.

Now the main focus should be hitting the best pairing of our attack, we cant just keep trying diffrent players and hope they somehow get us the goals, id like our players to get an understanding of eachothers movement and know the runs and really try to find the player they are used to play with.

Like you see with all top teams in Europe with a 3 striker partnerships. Ole should try to pick the three and stick with them atleast for a 7-10 games.
Lets not forget our aim is still top four so with that said i would like to see this side given a fair 10 games in row if no injuries..

————-——-DeGea————-
AWB—-Maguire-Lindelöf—-Shaw
———-—McT———Matic———-
Greenwood—Pogba—-Rashford
—————-—Martial—————

Idk if Mason is 17 he is the best we got in that positions same goes with everyone in this line up, sure we can put Pogba with McT but do we have a better n10? No

I think Chelsea are a littler underrated at the moment. They actually have an XI without major weak spots, though after Kante they don't really have anyone you'd bite your hand off to join us apart from maybe Pulisic (who is 20 and struggled at times last year) and maybe Azpilicueta (who looked jaded last year but was a great player before that).

Kepa

Azpi Rudiger Luiz/Christiansen Emerson

Kante Jorginho/Kovacic

Barkley/Loftus-Cheek/Mount

Pulisic Hudson Odoi/Pedro/Willian

Abraham/Giroud

They have depth at their weakest spots and the floor at those spots is pretty high since Giroud, Luiz and Pedro and Willian weren't so bad the last couple years, and my guess is one of Hudson-Odoi, Loftus-Cheek, Kovacic or even Barkley (dumb but skilled and athletic players like him often need to hit 25 or 26 before their ability to read the game catches up to their "talent") will have a surprisingly strong year under Lampard.

Their worst 100 starts or so should be strong that the other teams fighting for 4-9:

United - CM whenever Pogba or McTominay is out, probably RW and #10 too),

Arsenal - 2 defensive spots if one CB and one FB play well - which seems the likeliest outcome, and probably a midfield spot too

Leicester - Both wingers apart from Albrighton's inevitable half season of competence, N'Didi when they have the ball, whoever their weakest CB starter is.

Everton - If they don't buy Zaha, a player like Bernard is always going to be hot and cold (even though I like his game personally, it's a tough margin for a winger who scores at the rate of a defender), they have no 3rd CB and Sigurdsson is hated by half their fanbase for a reason, when he doesn't score or create a goal he's sort of a liability.

Wolves - They actually won't have obvious weak links if Vallejo settles and takes Bennet's job, I just don't think they're going to beat all the crap teams they struggled with last year, especially with their key player Moutinho a year older. Still don't have an attacking midfielder or winger worth starting behind their front 2 and European adventures will weaken them

West Ham - I'm high on them but they need 35 games from Wilshere and Lanzini each and they're unlikely to get that. Also consistency in his first season for Fornals in England a big ask. Haller seems like he could be good immediately so benefit of the doubt there.
