We've been rubbish since Ferguson retired.
Guardiola's had 2 back to back seasons around the 100 points mark.
Guardiola has spent £80 million more than us since he took over.
So if Guardiola's spending has been "insane", what the F has our spending been?
Moyes, Van Gaal, Mourinho and now Solskjaer. They are the 4 men responsible for the way we've been and the way we are right now.
You have spent a fortune as well, it's just that
1. Your starting point since SAF's retirement has been much worse than City's (your squad in 2013 vs. them)
2. Due to a lack of DoF, or anyone with football knowledge at the helm, you've mismanaged your funds so badly

Get a world class manager who is on top. Back him financially and results will come. It’s not really a rocket science.

Who gives a shit?! If we were winning trophies not one fan would be banging on about net spend. Just an excuse to use when we're jealous of how much better our rivals are than us.

Does he?

A run through of his city signings isn’t great.
I said 'mostly'. Please go through the list below and tell me how awful it is then. I would only say Bravo, Danilo and Nolito majorly flopped. The rest of the players are either starters there or we would take in a heartbeat (Sane/Mahrez fr example)

16/17
Gundogan
Sane
Stones
Bravo
Jesus
Bravo
Nolito

17/18
B Sila
Walker
Ederson
Danilo
Mendy
Laporte

18/19
Mahrez

Not sure about these numbers btw. Last season it was around 5m net spend taking everyone into account.

It's such a strange comment. Pep Guardiola is already regarded as one of the greatest coaches in history and is without a doubt, the most influential coach that is currently active. Using the Champions League as the sole barometer for success is quite frankly ridiculous.
I feel like the CL lately has been overhyped to the extent that domestic success is being completely disregarded.

Yeah which is stupid given as great as the CL is it’s still a cup competition.

Particularly stupid view from United fans given Fergie underachieved in the CL. And he’s kinda decent.

Valid points. Although we have spent less. Also not broken FFP in the process.

Also the bulk of the spend we made over the last 10 years was after player prices inflated. Whereas City spent ridiculous amounts even before 2013 when player prices inflated.

so do you think we should boycot or take some other action regarding the fa or the fa cup? it is sponsored by emirates who are the state airline for dubai that have all the same human rights issues as abu dhabi
Sorry for the delay, i have a limited daily post allowance.

To answer your question, nothing would please me more/ make me prouder than if United did that.

That's a bit misleading given United have regularly smashed the British record transfer fee over the last 25+ years, eg Keane, Cole, Rio, Rooney etc...long before Maguire.

Exactly. But you won't hear a peep from them. The amount of times we lost to teams when we were favourites...

As SAF said, The CL is the icing on the cake not the whole damn cake.

Feel sorry for Pep - can't afford £80m like bad old United can.
And Liverpool with their high spending last year really showed City what they're missing financially!

That's true.
The big issue is the repeated firing of the manager.
If you hit the reset button every 2 years, then what do you expect?

Get a world class manager who is on top. Back him financially and results will come. It’s not really a rocket science.
Yep.
Now someone explain this to Woodward.

Won’t work. Ed thinks he knows better than any top manager in his self-imposed DoF position.

Transfermarkt are missing £15m for the Lukaku sale so I wouldn't take their figures as the definite truth. The information on the site is updated by the users but unlike wikipedia it doesn't provide sources.

Red herring. Total spend is the issue. Not individual transfer amounts for one player.

City haven't been scattergun in the market like us. They know who their targets are and they go after them and get them. Their squad is massively talented and the average age is quite low so when they only need to bring 1-2 in each summer. They recognised they needed new full-backs and spent close to £150m on them including Cancelo.

Same with goalkeeper, he bought Bravo, realised it wasn't working and brought in Ederson for big money. In contrast, it seems to take us 1-2 windows to identify a weakness of ours and then if we do bring in a poor target, we stick with them instead of showing them the door for the most part.

It’s no surprise the net spend is so close. We’ve sold just as badly as we’ve bought, whereas Man City are out here getting £30 million for trash full backs.

Can we even trust the City figures after all the FFP/Football Leaks stuff?

They've spent well, for sure, but can't help but think that if they could cook the books on Mancini's wage they could do it on anything.

It's not as if our spending is something positive to be compared to. We've had four different managers in that time span, each with a different idea, hence why we had to invest heavily into players the respective manager needed for his tactical ideas. City spent all that money supporting the ideas of two different managers. Plus, when Guardiola took over, they already had plenty of players available he could use well.
Thus, the situation is a little different and it needs to be judged accordingly.

Over the past four years, City's team has been built on four key players: Kompany, Silva, Agüero and Fernandinho.

All of those players were bought between 2008 and 2013, when Fergie didn't have a pot to piss in.

This is the real legacy of the Glazer's debt: we let City get ahead of us and wasted the fact that we had the best manager in the world.

Since 2013 City have been able to make precision signings from a position of strength, with their core already in place, while we've had to buy an entirely new squad.

We might have been able to close the gap with a competent manager and technical staff. But - well, we all know what happened there.

As this season was the start of our rebuild, everyone expected us to spend a fortune. There was even figures nearing half a billion mentioned.
Manchester United have the money to buy anyone they said.
It won't be long before they are back on top of the pile again.
4,5,6, Players coming in and several moving out, was headline news.

We brought in 2 players to strengthen the backline, left our midfield weaker than last season. Herrera and Fellaini gone, without replacements coming in.
Sold our CF without replacing him, and a winger from a lower league brought in, to keep the fans quiet.

Thanks again Woodward, you certainly pulled the wool over some fans eyes once more.

Kompany? He's barely been relevant to them in the last few years, his injuries are why they've been spending an absolute fortune on their defense.

KDB has been way more important than him.

That's also a red herring tbh, given how often we've spent vast sums on one player. As others have said above, United fans are on exceedingly thin ice slagging off City or whoever's spending. They are also obviously far less wasteful with their cash than we are, which is annoying.
