The same way you can believe that your right to own a device whose sole function is to kill is more important than my family who live within minutes of that fecking mall and who are there any given day on their way home FROM feckING WORKING IN THE COVID WARD to pick up stuff. feck guns. feck gun owners. All of you are selfish pieces of shit who value your killing machines more than human lives.

Edit. Oh, and we still haven't heard from one of my wives cousins who is a nurse in a covid ward and is off shift, so that's awesome.
The obsession with them is very weird. Almost like a religion at this point.

I hope your family are all safe and sound.

I’m sure there were a myriad of gofundme sites up for this. Probably pulled in millions.
Oh definitely. It just shouldn’t be able to happen.

I own two, but I certainly don’t fetishize them. Been months since I last touched my Mossberg, a couple of weeks since I last touched my Glock. Can’t remember the last time I actually shot either.

But, I certainly understand & appreciate your opinion on those who own true weapons of war.
I fired guns at a range in America and it was fecking fun. Would be cool to own one and go every now and then. But the freedom to do that isn’t worth what happens when everyone can get hold of them easily.

I just.... listen, I am not trying to judge, and I came off aggressive, but seeing ones wife sobbing will do that to you. We just heard from her cousin, she is safe and had just gone home and turned off her phone after pulling a double shift. I am now pour a very big glass of scotch and will be simmering down.

You’re frustrated & worried, no worries at all from my end. Very glad to hear all your family is safe & accounted for.

I hold much the same sentiment you displayed earlier.

As a gun owning liberal, I like confounding my conservative colleagues who definitely fetishize their weapons. I enjoy getting them riled up about the ‘obvious’ creep that the government is undertaking to take their guns away. Yet, they are dumbfounded when I tell them that I personally don’t feel any of this creep or slide & that perhaps they are completely misguided in these thoughts.

Remember the plot to kidnap the Michigan Governor? New details have come out - some excerpts from the article
One involved recruiting 200 men to storm the building while lawmakers were in session, according to court documents.
"They were to take hostages, execute tyrants and have it televised," court documents read. "It would take about one week and that no one is coming out alive."

Another plan involved storming the building, locking it and setting it ablaze with lawmakers inside. Musico suggested there were "tactical difficulties" with the plan.
Instead, he developed another, less complicated one to target the homes of elected officials and kidnap them, prosecutors said.

They eventually settled for kidnapping Whitmer, a Democrat, who has been criticized by some for enacting restrictions to combat the spread of the coronavirus. The alleged plot was foiled by the FBI and Michigan State Police.

A bit off topic, but I came across this yesterday and was thinking that these people have free access to guns and automatic-style rifles. What could possibly go wrong? Fecking 2nd Amendment nutters.

That describes most Islamic terrorists as well, though, at least in the West.
You get 25 odd pages of discussion on the cafe for one of those. Disturbed white dudes. Not so much.

So it’s already mental health then.
No need to nuke Iran?
Bad day then for US arms industry.

My brain can't get pregnant!

15 year old?

Ffs. Something is seriously broken when this can happen.

Glad the other news today was most of the victims had been released from hospital.

Interesting that this thread is two pages long. Had this been a muslim, then it would probably have been 20 pages by now, despite the fact that, in "Western" countries it's far more likely an act like this is perpetrated by a white male rather than a muslim.

How are these things related mate? I am very sorry that you went through that, and I'm glad that it seems like everyone in your family is safe.

My post was a comment about the forum, and the differences in how things are taken on here.

Yeah, but kinda an unecessary comment tbh. Something pointless to say after a mass shooting just occured.

What I will say though is that this is the first time I've seen a shooting like this happen with no casualties (so far). At least that is something very positive. Those people were very lucky this was an inexperienced shooter and I'm happy about that.

When do you say it then? This is exactly the same as the Republican line of thinking that it's too soon to talk about gun laws after shootings have happened. "Thoughts and prayers only."

At what point then is it acceptable to talk about a prevalent issue/bias on the forum?

So if hypotheticaly every user on the caf came on here replying to you that they agree would that make the world a better place for you? It doesn't fecking matter if it's moslem extremists or a "White Male" They are all sick fecks whom if they get caught alive should be sentenced to death. You are trying to create an argument comparing a steaming pile of horseshite to an entire field full of elephant shit.

Instead of making this a "What if this was a Muslim" thing, how about we discuss the fact that we are so numb to this happening that it is only 2 pages. As @BlueHaze said above, the reality that no one dies meant this was off the front page of CNN within an hour. The truth is that we are fecked as a society and we are fecked as a species. We are so numb to violence and hate that it is hard to muster up the indignant rage anymore. I'm guilty of this. Hell, the only reason I am shaking as I am writing this now is because I had. at least for an hour, a real personal investment in this.

And getting back to your hypothetical, how about we look at another thread on here, one that did have a "Islamist Terrorist" in Vienna. That only got to 7 pages. So yeah.

No argument on that. The amount of times that this has happened has made us all desensitized to it. Not ideal, but it's a difficult mindset to get out of.

And, using a literal comparison of 7 pages to 2 pages, so just to reiterate, you don't think that there's a difference in the way that stories like this are responded to on here?

I'm not even a muslim, I just find the difference glaring at times.

It depends on what you are referring to. We have not had a "islamist" shooting in the states in a long while, so is impossible to make a comparison.

I did a search of the CE forum looking for the word shooting in the title. There were a depressingly large number of threads.

Mass Shooting in mall in Wisconsin 61 replies
Mass shooting in Nova Scotia 15 replies
Far-right terrorism shootings in Germany 54 replies
Thailand Shooting | 26 dead, 37 injured 10 replies
Yet another shooting in Southern California | 14th November 2019 50 replies
Shooting at US Naval Base in Pensacola, FL | 6th Dec. 2019 | Saudi military pilot ID'd as deceased shooter 19 replies
Shooting in West Texas - 31 Aug 2019 - Casualties confirmed 78 replies
Mass Shooting in Alabama - 31 Aug 2019 - 10 Teens injured 43 replies
.
.
.
Mass Shooting in Christchurch, NZ Mosque | 14th March 2019 1044 replies

I want to highlight that 2 of these have a "Islamic connection", one where the perpetrator was Muslim, and one where the victims were. By your logic the former should have a bazillion pages and the later very few. Check the list, it's the opposite.

Also, 2 pages for a shooting that happened 2 days ago and in which no one died is definitely a "proportional number of pages" if compared to the 7 pages on an attack that happened 20+ days ago and killed multiple people.

Hm, fair enough. I may have been mistaken then. Always seemed to be the opposite for me, but maybe those are just the threads that stand out more in my memory.

I don't think your mistaken, just highlighting the wrong bias. There is, understandably I think, a focus on attacks/shootings that occur in the places where we live. Also, since the rest of the world is not as fecked up as we are here, when an attack does occur it will generate a a volume of replies that is probably comparable to the demographics of the CE forum posters. For example, look at the number of dead compared to the replies in the Thailand shooting.

Also, sorry I told you to feck off. That was out of line. Just still raw from Friday.

Not a problem mate. Understandably a very emotional time for you. Glad that all is well with your family, and hope you never have a scare like that again.

Sorry to hear about your family encounter @WI_Red. I can't, or more like I don't want to, even imagine what that must have been like. Glad everything is ok.

It's been said before and it needs to be repeated, something has to be done about guns in America. It's not changing an ideology, it's literally just changing a rule of law.

Actually I think it's typically an American thing rather than a "western thing". In the sense that the US has a crazy high amounts of shootings every year because everybody has guns while in Europe mass shootings are far less frequent.

But you are not mature enough to drink till you are 21
WI is also ranked as one of the most lenient states when it comes to DUI's, so whether it's 12 or 21, you still get to use a weapon with little repercussions.

Why, you may ask, are the DUI laws so lenient in WI? Because one of the largest lobbying groups in the state, formed by the Tavern League (bars/lounges/restaurants), pours a ton of money into keeping it from being a felony. Democracy is great!

Hey, at least you only see consistency on US "democracy"
