Does the kung fu kick work against Cantona?

For what it's worth I agree with most of diarm's list- possibly adding Yaya Toure and Sol Campbell and removing the Liverpool players. Vardy & Sutton are possibly a stretch too.
If anything, it should work for him. It's iconic and he followed it by the most famous quote in PL history.

Bryan Robson & Steve Bruce would have kicked it off nicely.

First Captains to lift the thing. Robson bridging to the gap to the previous Era.

Don't think Robson qualifies. Did he play 250 PL games? I doubt it.

Just a reminder of the rules for inclusion:

Players must have made a minimum of 250 Premier League appearances unless they have achieved any of the following milestones:

  • Made a minimum of 200 Premier League appearances for one Club
  • Been selected to any of the Premier League Team of the Decade or 20-Year Anniversary teams
  • Won a Premier League Golden Boot or Golden Glove
  • Been voted as Premier League Player of the Season
  • Won three Premier League titles
  • Scored 100 Premier League goals or recorded 100 Premier League clean sheets (GK only)

Would be much more exciting to have a Hall of Shame, my top 5 would be:

1. Gerrard - Slips and hands in a transfer request.

2. Terry - Slips and shags his teammates Mrs.

3. Suarez - Racist and his teeth are offside.

4. Giggs - Shags his brothers wife (isn’t number 1 because he’s won so much)

5. Rooney - Shags old women.

Honorable mention: Ashley Cole, imagine cheating on Cheryl Cole? What a donut.

The United players that would be most deserving for me are Cantona, Giggs, Scholes, Rooney, Ronaldo, Irwin, Keane, Vidic, Ferdinand, Schmeichel and Beckham.

Maybe van der Sar, Stam, Solskjaer, G Neville and Carrick too?

City players are easy. Aguero, Silva, Vinnie. Kev will be in there eventually too.

Yeah they do I think. In American sports only 1 team can win at the end of the season there is no other cups etc so you have to include players that haven’t won much or anything

SAF and Wenger should be the first two managers inducted.

Has to be Giggs in the next induction of players.
John Terry is a good candidate too imo.
Wenger? Where’s the white text?

7 of the 1st eight should be Utd players imo in proportion to our success - I’d say Giggsy, Scolesy, Keano, Becks, Bruno, Schmikes and Rio

All of those nominees deserve to be in there sooner or later, and I'm sure they will be... Can't imagine it matters what order they go in.

I rate him super high and he delivered probably the best season by a City player ever, was an absolute monster in 13/14 when they got the title and probably the best midfielder in the world in that time.
He was quality. Hated how he used to just power his way through teams with ease.

23 nominees for the remaining 6 slots released. 10 United players if I counted right. Beyond laughable Rooney isn’t on the list. Giggs cancelled.

voted Cantona, Rio, Vidic, Schmeichel, Scholes, Keane.
Bergkamp, Cantona, Keane, Beckham, Vieira and Scholes.

I get that Giggs is a cnut, but that should disqualify Terry, Cashley and Gerrard too.

Thanks for this. Had no idea there were qualifying criteria.

Why does everyone ignore Cole?
Record goal scorer in a PL season. Slept on. Even gets removed from “Top 10 record seasons” as it was a 42 game season. But he played for Newcastle. It’s still one of the best PL seasons by any player.

Only one player done all of the ones in bold I think

Teddy sheringham

over 200 appearecnes for spurs over 2 stints
Won the golden boot in 92-93
won player of the season in 00-01
Has three premier league titles
Scored over 100 goals

I have no idea what they refer to a "any premier league team of the decade or 20 - year anniversary teams?" - I guess they have a qualifying list somewhere?

Basically sheringham is probably more qualified than the people that can be voted for (by their own criteria)

You word it as if they were all the mug punter teams that they are today back then.
No my point is, what player since has come even close to Shearer's numbers outside of playing for the "big boys"

Southampton werent great when Shearer was there, infact they were never "top notch", they were always mid-lower table. Blackburn did well in 95 of course they won the league, but Shearer left in 96 to Newcastle and when there they finished bottom 10 usually, apart from the classic Keegan season, and 2 or 3 occasions in early 00s.

Had he played for a "top" side, he'd have been arguably even better, infact, most definitely

Lampard going in is a no brainer, 5th highest scorer in prem history, 4th highest assists since Prem began

For a midfielder to be 10 off Andy Cole, and 4 off Aguero is quite something

Not questioning the right of Shearer & Henry to be Hall of Famers but choosing them as the first inductees is farcical.
Any one from Schmeichel, Cantona, Bruce, Keane, Irwin, Scholes or Becks should have been one of the two.
