The media tend to over report what we pay in wages while under reporting what other clubs in wages because of their hatred of us, mate. I do take your point though and imagine Varane will be paid more than White. Will probably be something more like 150k vs 200k though.
More like 170 vs 360.

Someone give me a TLDR. Is this happening or this another case of someone using us for a new contract
United are just leveraging Real's desire to get a fee for Varane, knowing he can move for free the following summer.

It's a risky play, if push comes to shove I'm sure United would offer the 60m (or near whatever the quoted figure is). The risk I think is Varane changing his mind to stay if he feels we aren't really going in with conviction to get him to Old Trafford. Who knows.

Still feel it's likely we get him right now.

It's also risky to just pay up the asked amount plus the high salary, and then watch Pogba leave with not enough money left to get a new midfielder.

If Pogba leaves we can use his transfer fee to get a functional midfielder like Neves or Camavinga.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he stays and sees out his contract.

Maybe Varane and Pogba will switch clubs for free the following season, going in opposite directions? Both clubs can sort of claim a big PR win, taking a big player from a massive club.

Last month: United refused to pay the €95m that Dortmund were asking. Moment of silent for a week and then out of nowhere we got Sancho for €85m.

This month: United refused to pay the €60m that Real were asking. And now we have this moment of silent this week. What does it tell you? We are getting closer lads, we got this.

I get what you're saying but that's a risky move. The longer this goes on the more chance for things to go wrong including another team making an offer or Madrid deciding to offer him a bigger contract.

Also given the window is open until the end of August he could not only miss the start of the season but if Madrid decide to not give him any game time he wont even be match fit. Get it done ASAP and let him start settling in in my opinion.
Yep I would love him next week, but we are also a business and need to send a message to everyone that we are not going to get ripped off any more. Plus Real have got too many favourable deals from us, it's time for the foot to be on the other foot for a change.

Why oh why do we do business with this club?
Even giving 40mil is way over the top for a player in his last year and if they are not happy with that then IMO we walk away.
I read something that Varane will respect the club and not force a move and yet the club ask for way over the top because they are greedy cnuts and that will stop him doubling his wage and deny him his “Premier League Experience”......it is a shame the respect is not reciprocated.

Why not make it easy and pay the £50m. He would be a very very important player for us and is MILES better than Tuanzebe, Lindelof and Bailly.

If we actually want a good start to the season he should be in Manchester this week.

Only money separates the club from having Raphael Varane at O.T. What are we waiting for?

I would like for us to take bargains for a change, you see all other big clubs such as Bayern and Juve getting top players for peanuts and yet we were always taken for a ride, it's a good sign that we are starting to show we are not the rich kid you can scam anymore.

Its not only for this negotiation but it's to settle ground for future ones.

I hear reports/rumour that he is now speaking to Ancelotti about a new contract. Hop this is not another case of us pissing in the wind and spending ages on someone who doesn't really want to leave while we seemingly don't put any energy into other deals. One last f@ck up from the genius that is Woodward

What “reports/rumour”? I can’t see anything relating to that. If it was the case then Madrid would be spreading this news left, right and centre that Varane has had a change of heart to give their fans some positive news and to make a mockery out of us in the media. I can’t hear any rumours/reports of what you are claiming to be hearing. All the signs right now are pointing towards that he wants a new experience in the EPL and it’s up to the clubs to agree a transfer fee for it to happen.

It's been the case for two years really. That's how long Real have been trying to get him to sign a new contract and he hasn't shown any interest in signing one.
He wants more money basically. It seems they offer him £200 k/ week and we £360 k/w.

Negotiations have started between Manchester United and Real Madrid for Raphael #Varane . The two clubs have been exchanging for several hours, Manchester asked Madrid's expectations. This week will be decisive. The player agrees with Manchester.

The player has agreed with United now so I'm hoping we get the best possible deal, even if it means waiting a few weeks.

I thought United were already negotiating with Real and Varane had already agreed on a potential contract?

What will you do if he signs in 2 weeks? Will you sing Woodward's praises or actuellement like a hypocrite and still demean him?

We had permission from Real to negotiate a contract so technically we were already negotiating with Madrid.
