Yeah I agree. The funny thing is that he always seems to be playing when we only have Martial in the box. It would make more sense if he could whip in crosses for Cavani and Ronaldo.
Yeah agree, his delivery would suit those two down to the ground.

As a backup LB behind a guy whose shirt he's never going to fill - in either sense - he's fine. His main issue is that he's not as good as people hoped when he was arriving and Luke Shaw became much better around the same time. He should get a few more games, both for his and Shaw's benefit.

Very suspect defensively and nowhere near good enough going forward as some made out he would be.

I mean AWB get's pelters for his contribution going forward but I'd argue he's better than Telles going forward. Has he ever gained an assist for us in his time here?
To be fair, Telles has never had a run in the team. AWB has been a mainstay in the starting 11.

Dodgy performance last night but Telles is perfectly adequate as Shaw's backup.

He started slow which ultimately cost us, a bit unfair but it’s still true. The slow start should’ve been expected being first game of the season.

He definitely is an adequate back up.

World class goal but a 5/10 performance, was only saved from worse because they knew there was even more joy to be had mullering Dalot on the other side.

read it and understand it
What’s to understand? The comparison was awful player scores great goal. What the hell has number of goals scored from the penalty spot in Portugal got to do with that?

He saved a goal too. So give him credit for us winning this game. He scored and saved a goal.

He's definitely the guy in amateur league where you know he does feck all else but can strike it and say "mate, let's give it to you this one time like we do when we take the piss and see how it goes".

fecking tricky shot to take but it ended up with the win, so credit to him for finishing an awkward delivery at an awkward time.

But he’s shit going forward. Can’t beat a player and just lumps crosses in pointlessly.
Watch him in Porto. He was pouring great crosses, was changing position to more central to try shots on goal. In 19/20 if I remember correctly scored 13 goals in one season.

Without proper team chemistry he will look inevitably shit just like Sancho or any good player.

That block he made in the second half was just as important as his goal - thought he played well tonight

Lucky to not get a red card for that late slide tackle. What was he thinking there?

He took penalties. We don’t need him to do that. We need him to be able to defend, or beat a player, or pick the right ball in the final third. He doesn’t. What he did in Portugal means nothing as Man United don’t play in Portugal.

Crosses aren't everything. Shaw doesn't cross that much and he's far better offensively than Telles.

There's no way that goal can gloss over that performance. It was a lovely strike, though. The importance of it somewhat redeems him, but not to the extent that he's not a massive worry whenever he takes the pitch.

Always seems a yard off when defending, runs through treacle, doesn't get into many advantageous positions to use his crossing which I can well believe is decent. Every inch a backup player that you don't want to see too much of

That left foot of him is something else. Takes by far our best corners too. Sadly he's a bit shit defensively

Penalties, long shots, crosses he can do all of that and that makes him actually decent material, even though we often use our players to their disadvantages.

He's definitely not Andreas, not in the slightest.

I know overall performance was meh but just for that goal though .. he hit it so cleanly.... just for that he deserves 7/10 tonight.

Absolutely cracking finish. He's always had a bit of a wand of a left foot. He'll probably be remembered as the guy who made Shaw a good player, but he's been a pretty decent buy I think.

I respectfully disagree.

Lovely goal.

Still frustrating to watch. It seems the only time he ever sprints at 100% is when he’s trying to cut out a pass he has no business (or chance) to cut out. Why not run like that on the overlap to get in a good position.

I really like him. Not as a player, but just seems like a cool guy. A bit edgy.

Class goal. Felt like the ball took about 20 minutes to come down to him.

Average performance, incredible goal. He really can strike a ball. As long as he's happy playing backup he will have a place here.

Very shaky in the first half but much better in the second half - scored a wonder goal and saved one on the line. He’s just coming back from injury (and may be injured again now) so we should cut him some slack on fitness and match sharpness for a few games
