Is this one of the worst quality World Cups ever? | Probably not

I’ve tried my best to be up for it and watch nearly all the games but I think I’ve lost the enthusiasm now.

Almost every game is a 0 - 0 or 1 - 0 snoozefest with barely any big chances. The rest of the time it’s just over-hit passes, rubbish shots and silly fouls.

Yeah, it's all around dire. Lack of quality strikers is showing.

Lack of quality attackers in general. So few creative players of any use in teams. Same with wingers and wide players. It just means so many games are boring, defensive minded snore fests where teams create feck all.

France, Spain, and Brazil are the only three teams that I’ve found in any way entertaining to watch.

Edit: to be fair Denmark gave a good showing yesterday.

Yeah a few entertaining games but most of them have been shite quality. I don't think it's a lack of quality sides in the tournament, it's either just been overly 1 sided (but the team not taking their chances), or teams being ok with just easing through the group stage games, or a bunch of low quality teams as it's the group stage.

Germany vs Spain should be fun later at least. 2 of my favourites pre tournament.

We've just had the same conversation in the match thread but I genuinely disagree, I had a ton of fun watching he Mexico Argentina match for example.

I day it's pretty ok overall.

I absolutely love world cups, i look after them since months and years before, and i don't share general dislike of england fans for international football.

But im afraid solius is right on this one. The quality overall has been poor

Feels like everyone is so organised and robotic that there’s hardly ever any space as well. I suppose it’s good defending (or more likely poor attacking) but there’s barely been a single game that has been fun end to end stuff.

It’s absolutely terrible. So sanitised. Just a complete dearth of culture.

It's been fine, some good games, some bad games and a few great games.

Not sure why there's always a need to label things as the best ever or the worst ever... Things can be in between

Yep it’s been very shite.

Tbh the lack of training time has to be a massive issue. Have to imagine teams simply don’t have the time to practice anything other than very basic routines.

A lot of national teams are championship quality and the number of dead rubbers will increase as the participants go up.

The knock-outs should be more exciting though.

People thought having a World Cup in the middle of the season would means better fitness and more intensity. But the players look lethargic to me

Some shit games yes but there have been a lot of quality ones too.

And we seem to have 3 genuinely great teams, people expect too much from international football these days.

Pretty much this, I was reading "worst WC ever" for Russia one too, and we shall read this every WC. This one is better than last one for me.

The Russian WC was brilliant in the group stages as I recall. Don’t think anyone was saying it was bad.

Group stage is often shite but this is a level below that so far.
Brazil 2014 was the best ever group stages. Then the knock out games dropped off. Hopefully it’s the other way round in this World Cup.

It's the worst I've seen. Fecking awful. It will probably get better once the group stage is done and the fat has been trimmed.

This one will be remembered for the underdogs, some amazing performances from them so far.

It's such a poor world cup.

Everything is shite to be honest.

The upset games been the only highlight.

Acclimatizing from winter to summer temperatures is probably the main issue. That should improve from next week imo. We'll likely see a couple of low scoring weeks once they go from summer back to winter.

I've enjoyed it. Several upsets and underdog stories. Majority of teams have all to play for before the final round of fixtures.

Most top teams look knackered (England, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Croatia, Argentina) and the minnows defend competently.

I feel football is evolving into a more boring game. We need a shot clock or something :nervous:

The entertainment level has been fine. I want shock results. I want final group games with all to play for. We are getting that.

Quality of football has been sub standard though for sure, but a lot of these guys were playing 3 games a week club football 5 minutes ago and it shows

It's been a mixed bag for me. Seems quite a few teams are just so afraid of losing they start playing so defensively. The results have been unpredictable too so we should have a great 3rd match day.

It’s been a mix of some dreadful draws with some exciting upsets. Seems to be 2 extremes.

One thing is for sure, never have a World Cup mid season ever again. Most players look knackered!

True this, what's going on in world football?

Seems like 20 or 30 years ago there were loads of goal scorers.

A lot of the games have been dire quality wise. Stupid amount of silly fouls and rubbish final balls in to the box.

I seem to remember a lot of 2010 being horrible though.

Not great, to be expected given the circumstances, especially the lack of preparation.

Underdogs are bringing the joy as most of the big teams suck.

This world cup will be known for upsets.
