Him and Dan Gore in the match day squad according to Twitter so hopefully he gets some minutes off the bench as I expect Dalot to be left back but you never know.

It’s not the mid 90s though. Players aren’t told to go out there and enjoy yourself. There’s pressure triggers, inverted FB aspects of the game to learn at the top level these days.
Every training session and game on loan will have been analysed to death. We may not know what he would bring but the manager and coaching staff 100 percent do. This idea of just playing youngsters to see what they can do is outdated as feck.
Of course it’s outdated, and I don’t think it should be plan A. But would I rather see this kid than Ryan Bertrand in 2023 sign for us? You bet I would. I’m sure that link is bullshit anyway, for my sanity I can’t except it’s true.

Same but it’s looking like a loan with an option to buy right now. Maybe he can be convinced to stay by getting a run in the first team though? Looks like he could be decent?
He is as slow as a wet week so I don't think England is for him.

Exactly this. Most of Rashford's breakthrough was a 'right place, right time' type situation. Even if Fernandez isn't that level of talent, how will you ever know if you don't give them the opportunity? We've become extremely risk averse with young players in recent years.
Seems to have gone that way with most of the big clubs. A real shame.

It's always better to have backup players from the academy than hiring a 34 year old free agent cleaning the bench. I'm not saying all academy players need to be promoted, but when it's a choice between Bertrand and Fernandez, I won't be able to digest it if we sign the former and sell the latter.
100% agree with you. Just making a general point about the youth players.

He'd better start most games there. He's quite an intelligent player though, hopefully they can find him a spot.

Disappointed if he's off. Would love to see him as part of the squad
I like him, but we don't really need him to be honest. With Malacia coming back and Dalot being more than capable at LB, we have more than enough cover there. It's a decent chunk of profit as well for FFP.

People would keep every player because he shows promise. If he develops well we can buy him back. We should be selling all our young players bar the special ones like Garnacho and Mainoo.

Harry Amass looks a better prospect there as well

I get he looks like a good talent, but how many of our academy talents have we let go and thought he was the one that got away. Pogba looked to be that player, until he came back!

I have no issue with selling, with a decent buy back and sell on fee attached. It allow the player to develop further. That development they are unlikely do to if they stay at Old Trafford.

Weird. Hope we've got a buyback or something because if Benfica want him that's probably a good sign.

I’d rather sell Malacia. Is he really that much better with some weird unknown injury that’s kept him out for months that could be a sign of long term things to come? We should have given this guy more of a chance

Another overhyped youngster who will disappear into relative obscurity and we won't regret letting go. The outrage in threads like these is always funny.

For FFP though, Alvarez is by far the better option to sell. He'd be pure profit as we bought him for peanuts.

He'll be a very good signing for Benfica, their new Grimaldo. Must not have improved enough at the defensive aspect to get a chance here though I suppose.

People always get upset when we sell academy players, they’re not all going to make it here, it’s the right thing to do to sell now.

How many academy players have we sold/ released in the past 10 years that we’ve actually regretted?

The thing is though I think people moan because they don't see these players getting a chance to prove themselves before they are shipped out. I don't think a single person would complain if they got some gametime and shown that they were not good enough before being shipped out. All people see is how good they are at youth level, given almost negligable (if any) senior minutes and then they are gone and I think it leaves people with the idea that we aren't giving this youth a chance. I personally don't see that Malacia is all that much better than Fernandez but that seems irrelevant.

Only examples I can think of since I joined the Caf in 2008 were letting Pique and Pogba go (the first time) - and both of those were completely outside the club's control, rather than us actively selling unwanted players.

This has been a popular view on twitter but Benfica don't always get it right. One of the reasons they do well is because they sign a lot of young players with potential which increases both the hit and miss ratio.

Fernandez does have potential to be good for them and beyond but there have always been questions about his pace, I think the youth forum thread on him would show as much. Him being in a place where he can develop, possibly move centrally in defence or midfield and grow might be good. And if we profit from a future sale then thats good too.

True, but those two left more than 10 years ago.

I can't think of any academy player that has left in the past 10 years that has been at the level of Pique or Pogba when they left us.

This. But I guess the timing ain't great and it would look odd for ETH to sell one of his own after a season n a half

Right, there haven't been any. Yet looking at the reactions in each of the sale threads over the years, you'd think we've been losing out on Ballon d'Or tier talent.

Depends on the fee of course...but this is one of the main reasons you have an academy.

Sell him for a profit now...his pathway into the first team isn't going to be clear for a few more years and hanging around until then would only stunt his growth and transfer value.
