When Mainoo was subbed off for Mctominay, the pessimist in me was worried we'd throw away another 2 goal lead, but Bruno seamlessly slotted into the number 8 position as Mctominay played further forward. Put in some important challenges and was excellent in possession.

As a side note, this thread is a lot quieter today than after all of our losses this season. I wonder why?

Seems like there was a very conscious decision to slow it down, take it easy on corners etc and Bruno was integral to that.

Played well.

Because he was fine today? It’s not rocket science.

Had a good second half. First half he was slowing it down when we were already lacking tempo, which was frustrating.
I agree with you. Thought he played some coward football at times. Casemiro even shouted at him and started refusing to pass to him because he was doing his best to find centre backs instead of centre forwards.

It got better in the second half but I still felt he could've release Hojlund several times and delayed too long.

But I guess the fact he had 87% pass completion will make some people happy. I'd rather have 75% and a few more chances for our striker though...

Very reserved performance today with very high possession rate (87% which is unheard of for him). Meant he wasn't trying as many risky passes as usual so wasn't his usual creative force. I like Bruno when he plays a more patient style though

We won 3-0, Bruno did well and got an assist. Maybe that’s why?
My point being that you see other caf performance threads active with praise after a player has a good game, whereas Bruno barely gets any credit when he plays well. I'm just nipping it in the bud now before we see several pages worth of criticism towards him within an hour after our next defeat.

Yes I did notice this too. In my previous post in this thread, I said it was on ETH for giving Bruno basically carte blanche to spam balls.

In his and ETH's Wolves post game interviews, they mention about control and managing the game.

Sometimes I think it's just something as simple as those core words that gets these players pricked up. Bruno, being the emotional/passion mad man probably ramps that up to 11 in his mind. It's like a catalyst reaction 'SAFE? MANAGE? OKAY BOSSS, YOU GOT IT'. Hence why the ball went back where it came about 7/10 in the first half.

Redcafe poster confused why player that played well isn't criticised. Futbal.

I do think this a lot about our players. I said it in the match day thread too. Its like they hear: 'play with control' and interpret that as 'be ultra safe, go sideways, recycle possession, don't play a ball forward unless its 90 per cent sure to reach its target.'

I felt Rashford, Hojlund and Garnacho made plenty of runs today that were wasted. There were several times when all three went to beat the offside trap and had to stop because the ball didn't come quickly enough. If we do that against Villa we'll be destroyed. Villa will push up and dare us to play those quick balls. If we don't they'll condense the pitch and pummel us.

Yes, because the point I was clearly making was that there should be numerous posts criticising him after today's performance, rather than numerous posts praising him. Top notch reading skills there mate.

We've barely had a page worth of posts since the full time whistle went. Have you been on this thread after a defeat? Pages and pages of comments criticising him, saying how wasteful he is and claiming how United will be better off without him.

I know that as football fans we could spend ages moaning and very little time praising a player, however in Bruno's case it seems disproportionate when compared to other player performance threads.

Did what the caf has been crying out for, played a disciplined role, didn’t roam and wasn’t shooting at every opportunity. Much better like this, a little deeper and I feel a bit less pressure on him to make something happen.

Decent. Solid 6/10 performance which is better. The team is much better and we are scoring more prolifically when we function as a team.

I don't like how he's being used in this deeper role, but if you can only use McTominay as an option, it is what it is I guess.

Solid performance yesterday. Agree with most that say he was disciplined. We got the first goal because of him anticipating that pass and then he was good defensively and not so wasteful in attack. He needs to improve his corners!

And look at you still being unsatisfied :smirk:

But lets not kid ourselves, obviously after a good result, there isn't too much frustration among the fans that often is channeled in the direction of certain players. And the match today also didn't have him stand out positively with something, that will trigger "your lot" to start bigging him up ^^ So you have two less reasons for people to get into that thread and that obviously is reflected in the number of posts.

I said it often enough, while there are a very few posters in here, who are very adamant, the majority of Bruno critics here isn't doing it for some weird agenda reasons - which seems to be your perception of the situation. Today Bruno played more reserved, kept it easier while still able to create some chances here and there. This is good for the team. I personally think this is us not getting the best out of him but if that is what it takes for the team to benefit, I'll take it for now.

I know that as football fans we could spend ages moaning and very little time praising a player, however in Bruno's case it seems disproportionate when compared to other player performance threads.
Well I learned around this place that football fans love to moan about other football fans just as much. And just as food for thought, weren't players praise and criticism always not fairly shared? Weren't there always some players who got more flack than others while others were everybodys darling?

Don't get me wrong, I am sure, you are triggered by things just as much as other posters, but you seem to be on a crusade to missionize people to finally acknowledge the superiority of your opinion or standpoint. I exaggerate intentionally to make a point. Chill out - I am sure, the next game where he will be praised over the hills isn't far away from now. Just as the next game where he will receive unfair criticism from your point of view.

This is the United fan base problem. Not specifically you, but Bruno will never win. When he plays safe he is coward, when he tries killer pass, he is rushing it.

Sure - some players get more undeserved flack than others, but that's usually consistent across the board. Far from being a Bruno evangelist, I am merely pointing out how disproportionate the Bruno criticism is on the caf when compared to other platforms. My perception is that the caf is seemingly unique in it's vitriol towards one of our best post-Fergie signings, as opinions on forums such as reddit are generally more favourable towards him. Combine that with the fact that he gets his name sung inside Old Trafford more than any other player, and it makes the caf a strange place to visit at the best of times.

It's a matter of balance, and a question if it makes sense to ask Bruno to play more "reserved" #8 role. He runs a lot but is weak defensively. Personally I would only play him in attacking position, I strongly believe ETH is making a mistake trying to mould Bruno into more of a midfielder.

Remarkably disciplined and restrained performance by him.

Made the simple choices and retained possession well. Which for Bruno is rare. Still had creative quality.

Mature. Very proud.

Well the place where discussions are made isn't really telling anything about the "quality" of the opinion. I am sure, there will be bat-shit crazy takes among a few OT fans and there are many sensible discussions and thoughts in this thread as well. Redcafe is the biggest online community, isn't it? So the likelyhood of diverse opinions is pretty big. And given the tense nature of this specific thread, the takes become more extreme very fast. I am sure, I can find criticism about Bruno on Reddit as well. I've seen it under youtube videos as well. How much of it you perceive or I do is quite subjective.

Same here. But I guess it is worth to point out, that is a mistake that isn't causing damage but rather not getting out the best from Bruno.

I agree, although that translates to the team in general. I do think however it's illogical to restrain your most creative player. Another aspect is that Bruno is really poor defensively, so it makes even less sense to me.

You could do that with Mount IMO, but Bruno always forces the team into 4231 shape. I am yet to see how any double #8 setup works if Bruno is one of those.

I don't think it's about playing safe or too aggressively, it's about making good decisions.
As an attacking mid, you should always be forward thinking. However, if a good forward pass option isn't there, don't force it, take the next best option, even if that's a pass back to the keeper.
Yesterday's first half, I think he played very safely but wasn't making good decisions. Hence, why Casemiro yelled at him.
In the second half, he was better, made good decisions and played forward, especially as the game became more transitional and West ham pushed more bodies forward.
Overall, I think he played well.

It's very Bruno that he plays two games, where he has been below his usual level, but he still comes out of it with two assists.

Not sure where all the praise for him is coming from. He had an average game. His being extra safe in the first half was killing us momentum-wise. there were better passes on that he either ignored or didn't see and kept going backwards.

Our chief creator still has no connection with our striker either. Him and Hojlund just do not connect on the pitch at all.

There was one moment around the centre circle before half time, when he got the ball off Casemiro and he passed it back to the CB.

I thought "nice! Bruno is keeping possession" but immediately Casemiro complained and the crowd all groaned at him passing it back  Poor Bruno

There's a weird phenomena on here whereby posters who don't like a certain viewpoint pretend that said viewpoint doesn't exist outside of RedCafe. Which you have disproved quite quickly right there.

It's an odd one as the views on here, imo, are far more balanced and reasonable than other corners of the internet.

It's almost like he's super focused on doing simple stuff, and he doesn't see the more adventurous options. But we know what type of player Bruno is, I think it would be unfair to expect him to turn into a classic #8.

No one has ever said that it doesn't exist outside the caf - merely that it is more prevalent on here than elsewhere.
