The more heads in, the better. United is one of the biggest sporting entities in the world. It requires lots of delegation.

You can have Jewell be the recruitment man, Wilcox the development man and Ashworth the man who stitches it all together, with Berrada being the money man.

The first team head coach is then freed from the burden of having to be part of the recruitment man and part of the man who stitches it all together, and he can focus on first team performances and is assisted by those four gentlemen.
Good post.

One thing i am bit worried about is that we are hiring people from smaller clubs and giving them higher roles than what they have in current job. Usually, that's not how it works in any industry, any job market. It actually the other way around. People get higher position in smaller company.

Just a little concern...I hope new owners know what they are doing.

City, Newcastle and the FA? You might be worrying unnecessarily.

I get it...and yet, we are a beast and it's just that United supporter in me has been burnt so many times recently over 'new beginnings'...
Thus, you should have been already used to the burns. I’m immune to disappointment over the past decade.

Tbf you can't compare football or Sports to any industry or job market.

It might be a fair concern if it starts happening en masse. The only thing I would say is we're likely to see an upturn regardless because for the last decade we've had bankers and accountants running the football operations of the club with an absence of any kind of meaningful structure.

Brailsford also seems to be targeting people who are well regarded within the game, so I guess the hope is these people are capable of stepping up and may even reap the benefits of the freedom they might get in a more senior role.

So are we looking at Jewell's son for the Head of Recruitment role or am I misinterpreting things. Hope that INEOS are still weighing up candidates outside of the UK as well. Definitely feel we could do with some knowledge of the foreign markets too.

Isn't the main reason for the interest in Jewell that he has focused on gaining knowledge on untapped foreign markets?

My main interest is how ineos will help reduce the debt levels of the club.

I haven't followed this thread for a while so apologies if that has been discussed.

According to the rumours in the papers we are sounding out investors for the stadium project

Does that mean more debt?

As far as we know, the money will used to buy shares, (currently worth $21 each, Ratcliffe is offering c$31 a share), you can bet your mothers cardigan, that money will go into shareholders pockets.

I'm really excited. I don't need us to be world beaters tomorrow, or next season, or the season after. Once we're on our way and its clear we're on our way, we can enjoy the journey.

Here's hoping.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
What's really funny is doing all this and getting good again will only help out financials.

It would have been very easy for the Glazers to have done this years ago and the club would have been in a much better position on and off the pitch.

Literally the only reason they didn't do it seems to be pure laziness and the fact they hired their own people to run a football club. If they truly believed on field performance had no affect on further growth then frankly they are just idiots imo
Yep. I've often seen people claim that the Glazers or Woodward did a great job financially, but they really didn't. We lost ground to pretty much all of our competitors. I have no doubt the Glazers have cost themselves at least 1b because of their incompetence running of the club, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if it's closer to 2b.

Better performances on the pitch = more prizemoney and bigger sponsorship deals.
Better performing financial staff = much better bang for our buck when it comes to transfer fees and wages, which results in being able to sell players for significantly more.

Those two things together then increases the value of the club quite significantly.

"Senior Role" is quite vague, could the guy from Southampton be out new Director of Football or Head of Recruitment - assuming that Ashworth's role will be Sporting Director.
I don’t get this Sporting Director or Director of Football lark. Then there is Technical Director, which one is which?
Sporting Director and Director of Football tend to be the same thing just with different names. I guess we could have both roles and just give them different responsibilities, but generally a club will only have one. Both tend to be the one at the top of the footballing hierarchy.

Technical Director seems to be all over the place. Some Technical Director's seem to be just another name for Sporting Director or DoF, but then there's the other extreme when we've given that title to Fletcher who is mostly involved with the academy. I think normally Technical Directors seem to be somewhere in between, where they are high in the pyramid but not the absolute top.

Ashworth certainly seems likely to be our Sporting Director / DoF. Not sure what role or job title Wilcox will hold if we do get him. Technical Director, Assistant Sporting Director, something else?

Yes, exactly. During covid-lockdown the guy learned to speak Spanish, so he would be able to be a better recruiter in the South American market. It's pretty impressive in my opinion.

Debt in itself isn’t a bad thing for a business that is using debt wisely… making it work to make money/improve. Debt’s an issue when a business can’t afford it and/or the debt servicing restricts other areas of spend that are important or could see noticeable improvements in revenue (well, cash and profit really).

The issue was we misspent the money we had, took loads out for the Glazers and mismanaged what should be (is) a fantastic business.

Jim (Berrada) won’t misspend, there’s an embargo on dividends for 18 months min and Jim/his appointments will improve the business across the board.

We’ve still got to manage FFP (unlike some clubs) so if it takes debt to say.. improve/rebuild the stadium, that’s fine if (1) it’s manageable (2) it doesn’t prevent something more important. And apart from players, I can’t see anything more important because the stadium needs sorting and if done properly, will bring in more revenue which will reduce/negate debt servicing.

And it’s Jim. His business experience, success, wealth and access to so many other strings massively outweigh the Glazers. It’s like going from a lazy, nowty, farm horse to Red Rum.

techincally speaking "infrastructure" like a new stadium won't effect FFP in the new rules coming in next season.

The Mail are reporting Brailsford met Fergie at his house and asked his opinion. Fergie said, “Get rid of the cnuts.”

 No doubt one of the cnuts he's talking about there is Murtough. The Athletic have already reported that Fergie couldn't stand him.

This is old old news - back when Brailsford was involved with UK cycling. He has a long standing friendship with Sir Alex, so not talking specifically about our cnuts but I guess the advice can be applied here too!

I was a sceptic initially during the bidsing phases but I must say, I’ve been quite impressed with how they've gone about things since taking over.

Especially the sense of urgency present when it comes to assembling the new club structure as soon as possible.

We're finally moving like a proper and serious club with a plan for the first time in years
