I could be mistaken, but i think i read that Getafe would receive a significant portion on any sale we do this summer. In that case, I think it would be best to sign him to a new deal in the summer and loan him out again to break any clause we have with Getafe. With his form with Getafe we should be able to find another taker without any clause and be able to sell him for something closer to what his value should be.

I too want him back, but it's impossible and selling him is our only option. Arguably ours and the Premier League's greatest player, Ryan Giggs, has essentially been relegated to a footnote in history and isn't to be celebrated by anybody publicly and Greenwood's case is far worse because of the tapes and severity of the allegations.

You just block people because they have differing opinions to your own? You like living in an echo chamber?
Well it was a tongue in cheek comment but that said, if the difference in opinion that I have with them is that I am not an apologist for a domestic abuser and probable rapist then I am fine with kicking them out of my chamber. I set the bar pretty high for blocking someone but the Mason fanboys still manage to clear it by some distance.

Get the biggest transfer fee possible and close this chapter.

It would send a terrible message to have him in the squad again. Also, after the Ronaldo saga, the Sancho saga, the Antony allegations, Rashford's booze trip, etc. we need to cut down the off-field drama to a minimum, or at least not invite more in. Let's have the focus be the posivity of the potential and great mentality of Højlund, Garnacho and Mainoo instead of constant stories about this guy.

If that's true, I'd still sell this summer and sell early.

Get rid and move on before it becomes another circus and distracts everyone.

Best for Manchester United? Sure, but in what possible universe would it be in Masons interests to do so?

The closer he get to contract expiry, the stronger his hand is. He'd obviously make vastly more in wages and signing on fees if he was to go to his new club on a free transfer.

I read the news that his girlfriend attended Getafe match with her daughter. I'm certain that she will support him here if she is a member of this forum. (Her actions speak louder than words anyway).

His return would be destructive to the squad. United don’t need his nonsense

Why though? I've heard this a bit and I'm not quite sure about it.

Among part of the online fan base, for sure the reception would probably be extremely poor and the media will gleefully make a huge deal out of it (which won't be the best thing for United but I think the club has seen worse), but for the squad I really can't remember any players publicly denouncing or showing disgust/animosity towards him/his accused actions back then. I mean we all suspect that there are more quite morally imperfect guys around (Antony, etc.) and yet it doesn't cause any waves in the squad, so why would MG's return do? Footballers always form bonds in a team, it's not even like he's one of the senior players expected to be a role model for the others. I guess (even if he actually committed the accused actions), they would probably be much more than ready to give him a chance for redemption like we too would probably do for a brother or friend.

PS: Before anyone accuses me of being a rape/domestic violence apologist, let me make it clear that I don't approve any of his suspected actions, I would never even dream of defending anyone who does that, however I don't expect a footballer to be a moral compass, and I think we don't really know fully what happened beyond the public trial. Also, and most importantly, I am big on forgiveness and redemption, and I believe that no matter what crime someone has committed, they deserve forgiveness and a chance at redemption at some point. In this light, I have generally kept the same feelings I had towards him before all the drama broke out, regardless of his football ability or lack thereof, and I sincerely wish he can truly turn his life around from all this and have a great football career (at United or elsewhere) and have a normal family life with its ups and downs and keep away from making negative news for off-field stuff.

Yep. Not sure why this is so difficult for people to comprehend.

Purely from a football perspective, he's not guaranteed a starting spot now with Garnacho and Hojlund improving. By the start of next season, it will have also been two and a half years since he last played for us. Time for everyone to move on.

Players and staff will have been banned from talking about it.

People deserve redemption, yes that is correct but only when they've acknowledged their crime.

That redemption doesn't also have to come with presumably a 100k a week and a place in the Manchester United squad.

As I said above, it will soon be two and a half years since he last played for us. Many of the squad that start next season won't have played with him before and bringing him back will ultimately (whether you/we like it or not) cause some level of disruption that we need to avoid for a third summer in a row.

On a wider point, it's absolutely insane how many want Rashford binned because he doesn't apparently care enough but they'd happily take this loser back.

Yep. If there’s anyone qualified to offer a detached and impartial judgment on Mason Greenwood’s actions it’s his long term partner who he was accused of attempting to rape and coercively controlling and with whom he later rekindled his relationship and had a child.

Yep I brought this up the other day, whether any of the posters wanting him back want to admit it or not there will definitely be players and staff at United who will be disgusted if he's allowed back amongst the squad and all it'll do is cause disharmony.

And another thing I said is that SJ has just taken over the football side of things, he's doing and saying all the right things so far, do we really think he's going to jeopardise that by bringing back in such a controversial figure in greenwood? Not a hope, be an absolute PR nightmare that they'll want to avoid like the plague.

You have to wonder at the type of person who after signing up to the caf decides that their first post will be in this, the most controversial thread on the forum.

Why do so many new posters concentrate on this thread?
Unfortunately, and I hate saying it, but they usually fall in to these categories: women haters who think greenwood has somehow been stitched up, posters that only care about football and don't care about what he's done, and, probably worst of all, rape and DV apologists. They are only explanations I can come up with as to why you'd sign up to the caf and then straight away head to this thread.

First, there is more to consider than just the men’s first team.
All teams, all staff have to be considered.
secondly, more or less all his team mates dropped him from social media etc at the time. Not sure how many have gone back.
thirdly, the disruption around the circus of media, fans reactions, away grounds, queries from sponsors etc. I doubt that INEOS want to deal with any of that.
Lastly, what sort of message does it throw out to young players coming through. We have to uphold standards- no we need to apply them first. We do not want the likes of Hojlund, Garnacho or Mainoo changing personalities over time because they see examples of team mates getting away with disciplinary issues or worse.

no, there’s too much at stake. Get rid

ps. Redemption doesn’t equal getting that chance in the same place. His redemption needs to be elsewhere

my guy waited 10 years to make his opinion known.

If his partner has moved on and decided to build a life with him ; should the club take that into consideration?

No. If you know anything about DV then you'll see why his partner "moving on" as you put it, means absolutely nothing.

He's a Brexit man. Likely to consider going against the grain to achieve the outcome he wants.
Also a successful business man; he will weigh up the bottom line ($) and the footballing outcome above all.

A Brexit man  ffs. And yes he will weigh the best footballing outcome, which is moving greenwood on, because as I said the disharmony in him coming back will cause in the dressing room will be too much, and will affect things on the pitch, and they won't take that risk. And that's without even taking the fan backlash in to account.

You seriously need to stop defending this guy, it's a very weird look, and just makes you look like one of the people I was on about in my post above, so which category do you fall in to? Because it's obviously one of them.

As much as I would love to have Greenwood the player back in the squad, I don't believe Greenwood the person can be brought back. Look people can acknowledge past legends at Man Utd having done similar acts, Ryan Giggs, Best etc but times have moved on. Social media has brought players personal lives directly to the public now and perhaps United just taking a stand and not bringing him back will serve as a notice to future players that this behaviour will not be tolerated. Lessons need to be learned and actions have consequences. I was sickened when I first heard the news, what an unbelievable talent. But I believe the decision has been made that he has to move on and I agree with it.

He may well decide that is the best move considering all the factors that you have described but I don't think it's an absolute certainty. He may not be worth 100m on the free market but he is worth 100m of talent to us if we were to find an equivalent.
I don't think that last paragraph is fair; i joined in 2014 and the majority of my comments are regarding general manchester united footballing affairs.

There's practically no chance of Sir Jim bringing him back. He'll be probably sold to either Atletico or Barcelona.

He is never coming back to PL.

Surprised that so many people still can't comprehend the impact his return would have on United. We aren't like other clubs as far as media attention goes, the circus will be in town for months none stop. Extreme disruption internally and externally. Sponsors will be put under a lot of pressure. Smaller clubs might be able to get away with it simply because they don't generate interest or clicks, that's why nobody is writing articles at the moment about how immoral Getafe are, but United is a goldmine.

Regardless to where you stand on the issue itself, which has been debated to death, to think that his return is worth it is insane.

He might have been a 100m talent at one point, but he isn't anymore, not just because of what's gone on but also because he only has a year left on his contract once the summer hits, so getting 40m for him would be a no brainer for the club and one they will take up I'm sure of it.

And I don't care if you think the last paragraph isn't fair, when posters come in here itching for greenwood to come back despite what's he's done I will always ask what their true thoughts are on the subject.

This thread has been going in circles for many months now with more or less the same arguments but I'll go once again.

People deserve redemption, yes that is correct but only when they've acknowledged their crime.
That redemption doesn't also have to come with presumably a 100k a week and a place in the Manchester United squad.
Well, we (the public) don't know for sure what is the crime , and neither do we know whether he has acknowledged it privately, unless you think he owes us a public acknowledgement before you offer him the chance to redeem himself.
Also, once you accept the notion of redemption, you don't get to put a line on how much is okay and how much is too much.

As I said above, it will soon be two and a half years since he last played for us. Many of the squad that start next season won't have played with him before and bringing him back will ultimately (whether you/we like it or not) cause some level of disruption that we need to avoid for a third summer in a row.
This is pure conjecture though, it's like saying signing four or five new players from different countries around the world in the summer would cause some level of disruption to the squad.

On a wider point, it's absolutely insane how many want Rashford binned because he doesn't apparently care enough but they'd happily take this loser back.
For the record, I don't want Rashford binned, in one thread I actually nominated him as one of two players for whom we should reject offers >100M. (In my defence, that was after the 22/23 season :nervous:)

First, that's fair enough, although I don't think clubs usually ask opinions from everyone before signing new players. Maybe the context here is different but, in my (humble and worthless in reality) opinion, the usual chain of decision-making for all players should be applied in this case.
Secondly, I expect them to do that for good PR but that doesn't necessarily mean a lot privately as they failed to do the same for Antony as I would have expected them to do for the sake of coherence.
Thirdly, United deals with more circus than MG would bring, that I'm quite sure. The relative silence over him in Spain and even talks of bigger clubs being interested makes me think we overestimate this effect of bringing him back, maybe I'm wrong.
Lastly, like I said, he's not a senior player so can't be seen as a role model fot the younger ones. Also, his career has gone through so much at such a young age that I don't think any of them can see him as getting away with anything. CR seems to have gotten away with similar stuff, yet I don't think it necessarily affects younger players around him in his different clubs.

And yes, redemption can be anywhere, that I agree, only I think it can also be here, and I wouldn't mind it.

There's definitely a level of overestimation going on.

I'm sure the first few sets of games would be brutal. Then people move on to the next issue and that's that.

He'll get the occasional isolated chant aimed at him but he'll just have to deal with it

Doesn't matter, all these rape apologists can keep crying all they want, Ineos will not want to deal with this mess and they're gonna cut ties without a doubt.
Is vilification allowed in this thread? This is not respectful, I think? Sometimes I wonder whether some come on here to have discussion threads or echo chambers? I think all this name-calling is uncalled for and it's the precise reason why I keep away from some threads. Why can't people accept that everyone doesn't think alike and you can form different opinions on a subject without being a bad person? I find the intolerance to alternative views quite disagreeable. I understand and accept why most would not want to have MG back without attributing negative and ulterior motives to it (and I could as well, if I wanted to) so why can't others debate trusting the good faith of opposing views?

Attack the post, not the poster.
