I fully expect a 3-0 return leg for Arsenal but that was nice

What a goal from Galeno. Porto deserved that, it was a dull game with little chances for either side. But no doubt they created more. Hope we can turn it around at the Emirates.

I seem to see a lot of Arsenal fans predicting a 4-0 5-0 win at Porto pre game. A bit of a reality check for them this, maybe a reminder how the UCL knockouts are. They haven't been in them for a while.

Porto away in the knockouts is never easy. I've seen far better teams than this Arsenal team struggle there.

Porto aren't any great side by any means but damn since Sergio Conceicao became manager they've consistently been a royal pain the arse in CL. Playing them feels like pulling teeth

A few of them on here said they were in the next round already pre-match.

The 100m defensive midfielder just stands there and watches the opposition player take a shot at goal.

Agree, whoever predicts thrashings away from home in CL are a bit silly. Porto is always in the CL while we haven't been in it in years. When Rice got his yellow card within the first 2 minutes, I knew we'd be in for a tough game.

I still think you go through btw. I think you'll be far more comfortable at home and can see a 2/3-0 win. It's just Porto are not a joke especially in that stadium with that big pitch, it's always a difficult place to go.

I agree, that stadium is intimidating. I think we should definitely play better in the 2nd leg (obviously we need to) but Porto have something to protect now. I've said all season we're a young side and our players haven't been in these situations before. Only Havertz and Jorginho tonight know what knockout CL football is like. Hopefully Jesus is back for the return leg as he's a killer in the CL.

Sérgio schooled Arteta tonight :lol: We the Portuguese teams sometimes in nights like these we need a bit of luck, we had that on our side, and I might be dead wrong, but my god did Sergio school Arteta tonight. Not a single shot on target!

Pepe the king!
Feels even better when it's Assenal

Edit: Gonna be incredibly difficult to keep this lead in Emirates to be honest :nervous:

Yep, Arteta's (and the team's) inexperience in CL showed tonight. Felt we didn't start off the blocks quite right and struggled to match your intensity as the game wore on. A few misplaced passes from almost everyone tonight. You fully deserved that.

This Porto are like a poor man's Simeone-era Atletico Madrid. They drag you down to a knife-fight in the mud and beat you with experience

Off the top of my head the only side that didn't struggle against them in recent years was Liverpool

We beat them 2-0 at their ground in 2021. No fans in the stadium though.

Being a Boca fan and watching Varela and Macca today and watching what we are going to put in the pitch on Sunday against River almost makes me cry...

I think Arteta had the mindset from the start that a 0-0 will do just fine and Porto was only happy to oblige in reciprocating.

Arteta does need to stop playing into this. We were the team in form, and we decided to play it like we have been leaking a bunch of goals lately. Now there's a self inflicted self doubt. Hope we can beat Newcastle...I was confident that was going to happen but it looks uncertain now.

Think you're right re Liverpool. And yes, the difference in experience showed tonight. They got stronger as the game wore on and TBH there only looked to be one winner. People underestimate the effect of Arsenal not having been in this competition for almost a decade, and having a young squad.

Nope, both games at neutral ground with no fans, 2-1 on aggregate, really close tie and by far your toughest match up of that run

I'm not sure if it was coming from Arteta but the team didn't look as energized and intense tonight. We looked a bit lacklustre, maybe we got complacent. IMO just shows our inexperience at this level, which is understandable considering we have no recent history in it. Very disappointing though. Hopefully Arteta can learn from this for the next leg. Interesting that he only made one sub tonight, clearly didn't trust anyone else on the bench. Need the likes of Jesus, Zinchenko, Tomiyasu, Partey and Timber back asap.
As for Newcastle, I'm not panicking. PL is a different animal and Newcastle aren't in great form themselves.

You should cry just by being a Boca fan. What a horrible life.

anyways I get wet dreams with a midfield with

————— Varela —————
——Enzo————Mac Allister

Hope Scaloni does this

It’s a very fair comparison. I feel confident we can rough it out against any team in the world, and it wasn’t always the case before.

The Liverpool thrashings are partly explained by playing with a 4-4-1-1 and having two slow forwards that never helped in midfield. Now we have Pepe (the other one) who’s a real number 10 and connects the lines.

He should be moving to a bigger league soon. What a player
